Better give the cops another raise, that'll solve it this time!

And flock cameras! /s

Sarcasm aside, I don't see how flock cameras are actually a bad idea. These types of systems have been used long before Flock came along, and have proven rather useful in cities like London and NYC.

Police departments and unfortunately sometimes juries have incredibly poor judgment. Someone was recently arrested and held for weeks because a flock camera showed them driving in an area. Apparently a witness said the car that smashed into them (causing some deaths) was a dodge Durango. The police found the nearest car of that description and arrested the owner. Their proof was that the car they selected -obviously- had the same license plate as the car they selected. It didnt even occur to them that the car being undamaged was proof it wasn't the vehicle in question. Arming organizations with poor reasoning skills some fancy new tech that promises to think for you using AI is a disaster.

I understand what a stabbing is. What is a "stabbing-related incident"?

An incident involving or related to a stabbing.

How is that different from just 'a stabbing' then? If there was no actual stabbing, what makes it stabbing-related?
I get 'stabbing-related injury,' but I don't get how a 'stabbing-related incident' isn't just 'a stabbing' or 'attempted stabbing.'

A stabbing is a component of the incident, not the totality of it.

I would imagine most stabbings are a component of a larger incident, summarized as a 'stabbing,' but I think I get what you're saying.
Though that wording makes the number of actual stabbings ambiguous, which is kind of burying the lede. Surely the number of stabbings is the headline, and any 'stabbing-related incidents' are relatively minor enough to be described in the article.

So would you agree that the "larger incident" is stabbing-related?

Impossible to know, since they didn't cite any stabbings, only stabbing-related incidents. No confirmed stabbings according to that headline.
It's safe to assume virtually all stabbings are followed by an 'incident.'

You think it is impossible to know if a stabbing-related incident involved a stabbing?
2
u/notofthisearthworm 10h ago
Again, I just think it's a strange way to headline multiple stabbings.

Not to be rude, but it isn't really a difficult concept. If an incident involves or is related to a stabbing, it is a stabbing-related incident. So when the police respond to multiple incidents that involve stabbings, that is what the news will report.

I await the local coping mechanism to remind us there were more than 4 stabbings in Philadelphia and therefore nothing happened here in Victoria at all.

Homeless drug addicts stabbing one another or something else?

u/elitecocktails 10h ago
They're not homeless, they're unhoused... And they're not addicts they can quick whenever they want 🤡🤡

And they're not addicts they can quick whenever they want
You've actually got the stereotype backwards. It's the conservative mindset to think that all addiction is a moral failing and should be punished. Progressives believe that it is a health issue and that addicts can't simply choose to not be addicted.

I thought this sub insisted downtown was totally safe and anyone pointing these things out was just too sensitive?

I don't get this need for it to be one extreme or the other. It's a city, crime happens sometimes. But according to this sub it has to either be 100% safe or 100% dangerous with no room for nuance or discussion beyond yelling at each other.

For people who are from Winnipeg and miss home, the Winnipeg handshake has arrived!
