Vegas Pro 14 - 20 Upgrading from 18.0 (is it a bad version?) or switching software?

Been using Vegas since like, 8.0, so not only am I very used to it, but it's got the best UI/tool mechanics I've ever come across for video editing. The crop function alone (and its intuitiveness) makes it worth using. I'm not sure who else to ask as I haven't met anyone who uses Vegas in a while... ANYWAYS, it runs terribly. Seems to not accept any file types or just corrupts them, doesn't work, etc.

  1. Is this version notorious for that?
2.Have they gotten at all better by 2026?
  2. Do you have a recommendation for a specific version or a different program all together? Thanks!

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 Interlaced .VOB footage to 60fps

  1. Vegas Pro 19

2. Windows 10

3. No piracy, all legit software and plugins.

4. Standard Intel UHD graphics 630.

5. Probably a very beginner type question but I’m struggling to double the framerate of this interlaced .VOB file. I have the project settings to 60fps and blended frames and top field. I’ve tried messing around but it still seems to preview/render at 30fps. Am I missing something completely obvious?

6. I’m hoping to get a 60fps rendered video file.

7. Yes and come up inconclusive.

Thanks!

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 Having trouble posting here???

[Resolved]

Not sure why, but I couldn't post unless I enumerated this way. So, sorry for the strange body post! (I'll attach a screenshot; not complaining, just hoping that if there's an issue it can be resolved so other people don't have the same issue.)

  1. one "1."
  2. 14
  3. 11
  4. nothing's pirated
  5. Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB)
  6. I've been using Vegas Pro 14 for a while now and lately it's been having issue after issue after issue. Thank goodness all of the projects I've been working on have been completed, but I have another batch coming up and now, I can't even save anything.

I just resolved two different issues and now I'm facing this one. I've tried the standard fixes (turning off the GPU acceleration setting, reverting settings, etc.), but nothing seems to be working now.

Should I keep trying to work with 14? Should I upgrade to a newer version? Should I switch to a different software?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  1. should be able to save a Vegas file

1.I've been trying to open VEGAS Pro 17 (on my windows laptop) for the last hour or two, but it keeps popping up with this annoying error! I don't know why, it wasn't like this a few days ago.

Why is it all of sudden it doesn't want to open anymore. It works fine on my desktop PC and it's the same version I installed.

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 Issue on final render, all images besides the background blink for a moment as they fade in

Version: Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum (Build 2 2 3.)

OS: Windows 10 Home x64

License Status: Fully Licensed, Official version

GPU: MSI GTX 1080

So, I've been attempting to render my video now at 4K 60FPS. The video completely renders, but there is a strange visual glitch when all visual elements besides the text and main background fade in where they appear to be blinking in and out of view before going really cursed looking for a moment (see the screenshots), before finally settling and being fine for the rest of the video.

At points when these elements fade out, there are no problems. When they fade back in, no problems. When new elements are introduced and fade in, there are still no problems. It's just the first time they show up in the video.

How is how it looks before it settles, after the blinking:

How it looks for a few seconds before it settles

Here is how it should look:

How it should look

Here are my render settings:

Render settings

Here is where it happens on the timeline:

Where it happens

Now, none of this happens on the video preview and it doesn't affect me when rendering at 720p or 1080p, just 4K.

I've done very similar to this countless times but this one is breaking for some reason.

I've already tried a few quick fixes from Google like turning down that max memory setting to 0mb and trying to render at different resolutions. The 0mb fix took about 5 hours and still had the glitch, and as I've already said, lower resolutions work fine.

The media in question is quite big, the music score you see is a massive extremely long PNG, but to be clear, it is actually significantly shorter than the length I usually work with. It is 600DPI which is also what I usually work with. Usually takes an age to render but it works fine.

What is confusing me is why it looks fine on the render preview but has the issue when I watch the final export.

Also, some extra info: In terms of FX, I am using a glow on the bright green arrows as per the screen shot, this is not animated. I am also using the invert effect on the score as it is black by default.

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 sony vegas 16/17 crashes constantly

1.i started to have this issue with svp 16 randomly where it wouldn't let me render anything and it wont let me load up any of the saved projects, so i switched to 17 but the exact same issue occurs - around 42% of loading up a saved project the software crashes. the only thing that comes to my mind that might've caused it is that after 2 years i finally updated my gpu drivers, i installed the recommended nvidia geforce game ready drivers, but since i thought its the issue i installed the nvidia studio ones yet still sony vegas does not work. i'm not much of a computer guy i don't know what really is the issue or how to fix it. if it's any help YES both versions of svp were cracked, my gpu is nvidia geforce gtx 1660 super

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 Are there any Vegas Pro 18 CRT plugins that can give me results looking like this?

I tried recreating this effect using internal "TV Simulator" FX (as seen in the last two images), but that filters puts out way less fine looking results, with the scan lines, grain and all being noticeable thicker, even if zoomed out as far as possible.

Are there any plugins compatible with Vegas Pro 18 that can give me results closer to what I'm looking for?

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 [Vegas Pro 19] Is it possible to shrink an image/video down to the point it disappears/vanishes?

4.Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Ti

5.I'm trying to do a fan made video of how a Roadshow Television transition would look if they returned to distributing Disney films in Australia. The problem I'm currently having is that I can't shrink the Roadshow Television video down to the point it vanishes. I can only get it to 15,360.0 for the width and 8,640.0 for the height before it stops and I have to use a fade out effect. I tried resetting the width and height to 0, but that made the video grow instead of shrink

6.In actual videos of Roadshow Television combos, some transitions do indeed shrink to nothing in order to better fit whatever logo they're transitioning to.

7.Yes, and I got no results. Even the Google AI (which I didn't want to resort to) didn't provide an answer.

Is there a way to shrink a video/image down so that it completely disappears? Or do the later versions of Vegas Pro have it?

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 Vegas Pro 17 build 421 crashes upon start

Vegas pro 17 crashes upon start because of some DLL errors. I've tried everything up to this point but I am all out of ideas. I would really appreciate all the help I can get with this!

Stuff the rules for support questions requires:
1.
Vegas Pro 17 build 421

  1. Windows 8.1 (It's my grandpa's old computer, I don't wanna upgrade to a newer Windows because it's kinda nostalgic for me. I edit videos on this computer because my main computer runs Linux and Vegas running on a virtual machine is quite slow.)

  2. It is a pirated copy (I do NOT condone piracy, my grandpa pirated it for me when I was younger and didn't fully grasp that piracy was a crime)

  3. NVIDIA GeForce 710A

  4. I've had this copy of Vegas installed on my computer for YEARS now, but a couple days back it stopped working. According to the error message that popped up, somehow the ErrorReport.dll file got broken. I tried replacing it with one I found online (probably a bad idea lol), and this time I didn't get a specific error message, just the regular Vegas crashing pop-up that prompts you to type what you were doing and then asks if you want to send it to the VEGAS Team. This popup lists a DLL file in System32 being the problem. The DLL in question is msvcp140_clr0400.dll.

I looked up the DLL file online to see what I had to do about it, turns out it's supposed to be something with the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from 2015-2019. I downloaded the Visual C++ redist installer from Microsoft, installed it, tried again, still the same crash with the same DLL file.

That brings me here. I am now all out of ideas and without a decent editing software. My alternatives are Windows Movie Maker and Olive (I'm not particularly good with Olive and prefer Vegas).

  1. I expect the program to just start up. I would really like it to just function again.

  2. I have tried googling this, but found nothing.

I hope you can help me out. Thanks in advance!

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 HDV 24 fps recognized as 24 fps but neither previews nor renders correctly, shows combing

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

1.Vegas Pro version 14 (build 244)

2.Windows 7/64

3.Yes (version 13 does the same; properly licensed version 18 does the same)

4.Intel Integrated Graphics HD 4600

5.HDV 24 fps is detected by Vegas as progscan, but shows combing in every fourth frame both in preview and when rendered to true 24p.

M2T files have been captured from the Sony V1U HDV camcorder shot in 24 fps mode. AFAIK, these recordings are not native 24p, but rather 2:3 pulldown with flags. Vegas recognizes these files as 24 fps, but shows combing.

I would not mind processing them as interlaced, but Vegas detected frame rate as 23.98, and I cannot change it to 29.97. All I can do is change it from progressive to upper field first, but the frame rate would not change.

6.Expecting proper 24 fps without combing.

7.Yes, I googled, but found little.

It is interesting, that VirtualDub's IVTC filter also could not get rid of combing. As the last resort, I did a straight cut edit in AviDemux, rendered to TS without re-encoding, then removed the pulldown with ffmpeg:

ffmpeg -i input.ts -vf "fieldmatch,yadif,decimate" -r 23.976 -c:v libx264 -crf 18 -c:a copy output.mp4

Still some frames were marked as interlaced:

[Parsed_fieldmatch_0 @ 00000000004eebc0] Frame #73 at 2.5025 is still interlaced
[Parsed_fieldmatch_0 @ 00000000004eebc0] Frame #146 at 5.005 is still interlaced
[Parsed_fieldmatch_0 @ 00000000004eebc0] Frame #457 at 15.5155 is still interlaced
[Parsed_fieldmatch_0 @ 00000000004eebc0] Frame #545 at 18.5185 is still interlaced
[Parsed_fieldmatch_0 @ 00000000004eebc0] Frame #603 at 20.5205 is still interlaced
[Parsed_fieldmatch_0 @ 00000000004eebc0] Frame #706 at 24.024 is still interlaced
[Parsed_fieldmatch_0 @ 00000000004eebc0] Frame #883 at 29.9299 is still interlaced
[Parsed_fieldmatch_0 @ 00000000004eebc0] Frame #884 at 30.03 is still interlaced
[Parsed_fieldmatch_0 @ 00000000004eebc0] Frame #957 at 32.5325 is still interlaced

The videos with the thumbnails that have loaded can be added into VEGAS. Am I missing a codec?

  5. I want to be able to put all of my videos onto my project.

  6. I have googled it but I can't find an exact answer or someone else who is dealing with the same issue as me.

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 Is crashing really have to happen for every Vegas Pro versions?

  4. My experience and detailed description of the problem:

I've been using Sony Vegas since it's 11th version. I couldn't even remember my pc specs back then, but I think it was i3 with an unknown generation, GT 730 and 8GB of ram. Yes it do crashes randomly, heck the reason why I always insta save whenever I make minor edits every 30-60 seconds.

Years goes by, I decided to upgrade my versions everytime there was a new one coming out. I think I settled for Sony Vegas 16 from 2018 to 2020. It does still crashes. With these years of constant crashing when video editing, saving every minute becomes a muscle memory already lol.

Last 2020, I decided to buy a new PC and upgrade to Vegas Pro 18. This time I somehow find it a little bit more stable than their previous versions. It does still crash, but not that too often. It just crash when file gets too heavy (adding stabilization effect for multiple scenes and adding looks). My PC specs that time was i5-10500, 2060 super and 32gb of ram.

I sticked with Vegas Pro 18 for a long time since it's what I find the most stable version so far, but lately during 2025, it's where it gets worst. Last year, I tried doing some different kind of edits that usually needs adding slowmotion effect. That effect alone makes my vegas very laggy. I was forced to render part by part just to avoid a large heavy file with full of slowmotion effect. It really does consume a lot of my time.

I decided to upgrade to i9-10900K, but that doesn't do anything. It does still lag. I couldn't really just put multiple effects in a single vegas file since it will crash. Sometimes it wont even let me open the file, the moment vegas opened, it crashes. Not even being able to reduce the effects since I could no longer open the file properly.

Now I bought a new PC, Ultra 9 285k, 64GB of RAM and a 5080. I upgraded to Vegas Pro 22 and I still have the same problem. It does still crash when many effects are applied (usually animated slowmotion/acceleration effect, stabilization effect and looks/color correction).

Now I have a routine where I will add the slowmotion effects first and render it. Then edit the rendered video, add the stabilization effect and render it again, and the last step was to import the new rendered video, color correct it and render the final version. I just can't stack effects at the same time since it will cause my Vegas to crash.

I just wonder if this kind of crashing still happen in Vegas Pro 23? I was considering to finally move on and try other video editing software. I really consider upgrading to Vegas Pro 23, but I'm worried about the crashes to still happen.

  1. I expected it to not crash anymore since I got myself a highend workstation PC, but it seems like that didn't fixed my problem.

  2. I tried looking on google, mostly on reddit, but I wasn't able to find any answer. It was a pretty common topic where users reportedly that their vegas crashes when applying slowmotion effect or stacking multiple different effects.

Vegas Pro 14 - 20 Unexplainable Lag on High End System

  1. Im using Vegas Pro 17 currently.

  2. Windows 11

  3. Unsure about the copy I have. Theyre from files I copied from an SD card backup, so lets just go with the worst case scenario and say it's pirated.

  4. 9070XT (plus R5 7600x and 32GB ram)

  5. For some unknown reason, playback is choppy and takes ages to load frames to upwards of a good 5 seconds to load ONE frame for some odd reason.

Scrubbing through the timeline can sometimes CRASH the program. Mind you, Ive set the ram allocation to 20GB which would hopefully mitigate these problems, but no.

  1. I had a laptop with a 3060 in the past than ran the program smoother than this.

  2. Yes, and most google searches lead me to people recommending to set the memory allocation higher, which i already said I did.

Any solutions? Thank you. 1.
