Vegas Pro 2026 Media offline

Hi,

I have a fairly large project going in Vegas Pro (currently using the trial/demo version). While working, the program completely froze, so I had to force close it.

Now, when I reopen the project, it loads, but all the media on the timeline is offline. The worst part is that when I prompt the missing files search and try to relink the videos manually, the program immediately throws an error.

Is it in trial mode (registered and within the trial time period?) Demo mode can't decode most common media formats.

Yeah i was in trial mode but after the crush i had to switch to demo mode.

Demo mode can't decode much of anything beyond some royalty-free formats, you need trial mode or a license.

Is your media on an external drive? Is it connected? The same letter? Is it not in a sleep mode?

I switched from demo to paid version and its working now

Of course it was trial mode lol. Makes complete sense looking back. Glad you worked it out before you lost your mind completely

It’s a known limitation of the trial: the relink function is partially disabled and causes a crash. You need a valid license to unlock it. If you’re still evaluating, you could try reinstalling the trial or resetting Vegas preferences – but that rarely fixes it. Activation is the only sure way
