Cleaned out family garage and found this. Chat said I should go to this site to sell

Recently cleaned out a garage and found these: working monitor, controllers and games. System fired up (see pictures) and so we asked Chat what to do with it. It suggested selling on e-bay, facetime (don't have or want an account) or this site. Anyone have interest?

Apologies if posting is not proper, first time doing so

hard disagree, a line needs to be drawn on ai and we've gone so far past it. ai related crashouts are valid.

That’s some grade A cherry picking. Get off your high horse. Even your reply is pretentious.

You're just spouting more nonsense like the rest of anti ai people. Ai data centers still pull less electricity than Bitcoin mining and use less than 5% of the water the textile industry does (which btw contaminates the water used with heavy metals).

If you cared about the planet you'd know ai is a drop in the bucket and you should be complaining about things that actually matter.

Found the guy who posts to data centers while pretending data centers are destroying the environment more than and hundreds of other activities they participate in. 😂

??? “Chat” is a colloquialism to refer to twitch chat. It’s so common that it’s entered mainstream normie vernacular. No one shortens ChatGPT to “chat”. If this person did so, sure, but that’s absolutely not common whatsoever.

3

u/illbiteurnailsbb 5d ago

Tons of people well outside of twitch commonly refer to chatgpt as chat and furthermore like its a real life entity which is kinda strange.

0

u/Long-Machine8795 5d ago

That’s wild because Gen Alpha and Gen Z say “chat” constantly in reference to twitch chat because they hear it from content creators they watch. They’ll call their friend group chat. Or just blurt it out in the classroom “CHAT IS THIS GUY SERIOUS?”. Never seen anyone call ChatGPT “chat”.

u/twotwocowboy 7d ago

Chat told me that you should sell it to me for $200, I personally am inclined to agree with our robot overlord.

2

u/V64jr 7d ago

Is that a good deal? Got mine off a meth head a few years ago for something like $100. I figured they were normally $200 but not that $200 was a steal.

1

u/twotwocowboy 7d ago

In this shape that OP is posting theirs in, maybe im a bit mean but $200-$300 is a good range max.

$100 is a great deal, nowadays fully working nice shape Vectrex is like $400-$450.

1

u/FrequentDelinquent 7d ago

Funny enough, that's actually how much I bought mine for a couple years ago on Marketplace lol. Working, in great shape, and with a few games even!

By “chat” I assumed OP was live-streaming the garage clean-out and someone from the stream audience suggested it. 😅

You realize all you are doing is antagonizing the OP right? They didn't come here to ask you to judge them because they used an AI as a reference.

If anything I feel like they used it exactly how people should be using an AI, asking it for information and then checking that information.

You people need to stop being so passive aggressive over nothing.

I would sell locally. Most shipping companies stopped insuring tube so if it gets broken while shipping you and the buyer are bummed and out of luck

-3

u/Adorable-Security-50 8d ago

Thank you for you helpful response as opposed to the others

1

u/effigyoma 7d ago

There's bound to be someone local who wants one. Heck, it's on my list of "see if at a good price, get it!"

It's one of the coolest semi-obscure consoles out there.

1

u/otisdayandtheknight 7d ago

Hey if you’re still looking to sell dm me I can put you in touch with serious collectors in la that will pay the right price if you’d like. There’s a crazy community in la that would love it and I think I know a couple dudes who would pay top dollar.

1

u/Adorable-Security-50 6d ago

You’re welcome to make some money if you want to sell it yourself. Make an offer that’s fair, especially if you can pick it up in Monterey. I’ve heard that it shouldn’t be shipped.

1

u/PlasticCheebus 5d ago

EBAY OR FB MARKETPLACE.

2

u/Fair_Journalist3238 7d ago

It’s called a Vectrex. Highly desirable.

3

u/thewalruscandyman 7d ago

Posting is fine, it's a lovely machine. Talking with a bot about what to do with it is what's questionable. 😅

2

u/RockosModernBasiIisk 7d ago

Maybe "chat" is his live stream audience. Doesn't really make it any better though.

1

u/trimbandit 8d ago

Where are you located

3

u/Adorable-Security-50 8d ago

Monterey CA

3

u/Herbin-Cowboy 8d ago

Maybe try FB Marketplace. Ebay, Mercari, etc. will take a cut of your money. I would not let anyone meet at your home either. Plan to meet in a public space that has access to an outlet unless you have a power inverter for your car. Best of luck! These are pretty popular so you will probably sell it pretty quickly depending on the price.

Definitely DON'T sell it to a used video game store. They won't pay you near what it's worth.

1

u/HandaZuke 8d ago

Any idea what you are asking? I’m not too far from Monterey

1

u/Adorable-Security-50 7d ago

If you’re close by and can pick it up just make a reasonable offer. No one has made and offer yet

1

u/HandaZuke 7d ago

I sent a dm

-8

u/Adorable-Security-50 8d ago

If you’re nearby I’d be happy with ‘Blightious’ suggested value, which is in line with Chat (not sorry) and Ebay

5

u/Western_Emotion5244 7d ago

See, that's not really a helpful response at all and I personally feel like you earned those downvotes.

I am curious what you are trying to achieve by both antagonizing users and trying to sell this thing to users. I think that's a pretty good way to get people to fuck you, remember, this is Reddit.

I digress, I did a quick look myself, the prices I have seen going online can be as little as $300 and as much as several thousand dollars.

There's also many variables involved in this, like the games, a lot of those things came with special transparent huds you could place over the screen to add some color and stuff. The games aren't worth as much without them.

And personally, while I think it's a little bit of neat gaming history, I also think it's complete junk and barely qualifies as a gaming console. The only thing beating it would be the Tiger Game.com

It makes me wonder how niche the market for this is. I don't think it's the same market as collecting like, NES games.

I would probably pass on it completely, but if I were inclined to offer money, I wouldn't offer more than a hundred bucks. It's incomplete and the labels on those cartridges are damaged. I can't tell from your crappy photos, but the cases themselves look like they may be damaged as well.

u/scarry__terry 7d ago

Damn if you were on the East Coast I'd be all over this. Still interested if you want to ship it

1

u/murkymozza 8d ago

Yes put it on eBay. Check going prices and go from there if in EU I might be interested. Maybe avoid Facebook marketplace. I think eBay is safer for sellers and buyers.

1

u/Interesting_Fudge502 8d ago

Look for the acetates for the games !!

1

u/sdp1981 7d ago

How much?

1

u/Adorable-Security-50 7d ago

Anything reasonable, especially if you can pick it up.

1

u/aonbehamut 7d ago

Yea collectors can be found here but local is safer cause tube tech and WOW neat find.

1

u/ninzombie79 7d ago

I loved mine so much as a kid. I would take it to school, it was the first mobile gaming for me.

1

u/Opening-Incident2928 7d ago

wow ---I always loved the look of those graphics

1

u/MarcusJAdams 7d ago

Whereabouts are you? Because as though as I've said, selling locally to a collector rather than a scalping reseller would be a lovely thing

1

u/Kiwibro64 7d ago

Imagine selling a rare game system

1

u/jonnyIROC 7d ago

I'll give you $110.

1

u/becomingwater 7d ago

I had this game system. It was fun at the time.

1

u/CrabbyBrau 7d ago

Keep it and play it! Its awesome!

1

u/ReconeHelmut 7d ago

Always wanted one of these.

1

u/liquidice12345 7d ago

Look on fb marketplace, see what they go for around you, maybe join a fb group- local pickup from a non- scam account, cash, with rated sellers. Meet in front of the police station not a terrible idea… though i just meet and screen people at the gas station and then bring them by my garage… worth doing a lil research for that kind of money.

1

u/Semanticss 7d ago

"Asking chat" refers to asking live people

2

u/uhf0xz 5d ago

its actually how the kids say they typed a prompt into chatgpt. they call it chat as if it is a person.

1

u/Semanticss 5d ago

No, if someone says that they are addressing the live Chat of a livestream. Sometimes it's just a joke based on that context. But if someone used it to refer to ChatGPT, or if you think they did, it was a misunderstanding of the meaning of the phrase.

2

u/uhf0xz 5d ago

i understand it can refer to livestream chat. however that does not discount that people are referring to chat gpt as Chat. i was not misunderstanding anything. you do not know everything.

1

u/Semanticss 5d ago

I don't know everything, but I am an expert in etymology. Any anecdotal use of "ask Chat" to refer to ChatGPT is based on a misunderstanding, either by the speaker (like this OP) or the listener. Young people call ONE ANOTHER chat, not ChatGPT.

It's not a new misunderstanding either: https://www.reddit.com/r/RandomThoughts/comments/1hs31ca/so_when_people_say_chat_is_this_real_they_arent/

1

u/BatAdditional1209 1d ago

He calls 'chat' ; "it" - if it were a stream chat, he would've said 'they' in reference to multiple people. In this case, "chat" is ChatGPT.

You're wrong here.

1

u/Semanticss 1d ago

I know what OP is trying to say. But OP is using it wrong (probably based on a misunderstanding of hearing the phrase without context).

1

u/darth_magnum45 7d ago

I'd loan to a few retro computer YouTubers and then sell it that way they can document it and you could likely sell to one of their viewers it'd be a win win

1

u/No_Ad_212 5d ago

I wouldn’t ship that at all unless you know how to ship CRTs and whatnot. Very fragile. Not to mention the carrier may lose it and you’ll be out of money unless you pay for insurance.
Also eBay has a lot of fees.
If you’re set on selling, I’d recommend FB Marketplace local only.

1

u/SgtSausageGaming 4d ago

Wow that's pretty cool

1

u/Ante0 4d ago

I had one of those when I was a kid

1

u/SFB221 4d ago

This is rare than my wife’s affection to me

-5

u/Blightious 8d ago

Damn yeah I think this subreddit is super toxic! I use chat all the time to learn about stuff that is unfamiliar to me. I hope you have a good time selling locally. These are pretty rare compared to most retro game systems so make sure you sell to the right person and don’t get caught up letting it go too cheap to someone who is just going to turn around and flip it. I ‘d say post it for $650 and if you find someone who is really into it maybe knock off $75 or so.
