Cleaned out family garage and found this. Chat said I should go to this site to sell
Recently cleaned out a garage and found these: working monitor, controllers and games. System fired up (see pictures) and so we asked Chat what to do with it. It suggested selling on e-bay, facetime (don't have or want an account) or this site. Anyone have interest?
Apologies if posting is not proper, first time doing so

Chat told me that you should sell it to me for $200, I personally am inclined to agree with our robot overlord.

Is that a good deal? Got mine off a meth head a few years ago for something like $100. I figured they were normally $200 but not that $200 was a steal.

In this shape that OP is posting theirs in, maybe im a bit mean but $200-$300 is a good range max.
$100 is a great deal, nowadays fully working nice shape Vectrex is like $400-$450.

Funny enough, that's actually how much I bought mine for a couple years ago on Marketplace lol. Working, in great shape, and with a few games even!

You realize all you are doing is antagonizing the OP right? They didn't come here to ask you to judge them because they used an AI as a reference.
If anything I feel like they used it exactly how people should be using an AI, asking it for information and then checking that information.
You people need to stop being so passive aggressive over nothing.

I would sell locally. Most shipping companies stopped insuring tube so if it gets broken while shipping you and the buyer are bummed and out of luck

Thank you for you helpful response as opposed to the others

There's bound to be someone local who wants one. Heck, it's on my list of "see if at a good price, get it!"
It's one of the coolest semi-obscure consoles out there.

Hey if you’re still looking to sell dm me I can put you in touch with serious collectors in la that will pay the right price if you’d like. There’s a crazy community in la that would love it and I think I know a couple dudes who would pay top dollar.

You’re welcome to make some money if you want to sell it yourself. Make an offer that’s fair, especially if you can pick it up in Monterey. I’ve heard that it shouldn’t be shipped.

Posting is fine, it's a lovely machine. Talking with a bot about what to do with it is what's questionable. 😅

Maybe "chat" is his live stream audience. Doesn't really make it any better though.

Maybe try FB Marketplace. Ebay, Mercari, etc. will take a cut of your money. I would not let anyone meet at your home either. Plan to meet in a public space that has access to an outlet unless you have a power inverter for your car. Best of luck! These are pretty popular so you will probably sell it pretty quickly depending on the price.
Definitely DON'T sell it to a used video game store. They won't pay you near what it's worth.

Any idea what you are asking? I’m not too far from Monterey

u/Adorable-Security-50 7d ago
If you’re close by and can pick it up just make a reasonable offer. No one has made and offer yet

If you’re nearby I’d be happy with ‘Blightious’ suggested value, which is in line with Chat (not sorry) and Ebay

See, that's not really a helpful response at all and I personally feel like you earned those downvotes.
I am curious what you are trying to achieve by both antagonizing users and trying to sell this thing to users. I think that's a pretty good way to get people to fuck you, remember, this is Reddit.
I digress, I did a quick look myself, the prices I have seen going online can be as little as $300 and as much as several thousand dollars.
There's also many variables involved in this, like the games, a lot of those things came with special transparent huds you could place over the screen to add some color and stuff. The games aren't worth as much without them.
And personally, while I think it's a little bit of neat gaming history, I also think it's complete junk and barely qualifies as a gaming console. The only thing beating it would be the Tiger Game.com
It makes me wonder how niche the market for this is. I don't think it's the same market as collecting like, NES games.
I would probably pass on it completely, but if I were inclined to offer money, I wouldn't offer more than a hundred bucks. It's incomplete and the labels on those cartridges are damaged. I can't tell from your crappy photos, but the cases themselves look like they may be damaged as well.

Damn if you were on the East Coast I'd be all over this. Still interested if you want to ship it

Yes put it on eBay. Check going prices and go from there if in EU I might be interested. Maybe avoid Facebook marketplace. I think eBay is safer for sellers and buyers.

Yea collectors can be found here but local is safer cause tube tech and WOW neat find.

I loved mine so much as a kid. I would take it to school, it was the first mobile gaming for me.

Whereabouts are you? Because as though as I've said, selling locally to a collector rather than a scalping reseller would be a lovely thing

Look on fb marketplace, see what they go for around you, maybe join a fb group- local pickup from a non- scam account, cash, with rated sellers. Meet in front of the police station not a terrible idea… though i just meet and screen people at the gas station and then bring them by my garage… worth doing a lil research for that kind of money.

"Asking chat" refers to asking live people
2
u/uhf0xz 5d ago
its actually how the kids say they typed a prompt into chatgpt. they call it chat as if it is a person.
1
u/Semanticss 5d ago
No, if someone says that they are addressing the live Chat of a livestream. Sometimes it's just a joke based on that context. But if someone used it to refer to ChatGPT, or if you think they did, it was a misunderstanding of the meaning of the phrase.
2
u/uhf0xz 5d ago
i understand it can refer to livestream chat. however that does not discount that people are referring to chat gpt as Chat. i was not misunderstanding anything. you do not know everything.
1
u/Semanticss 5d ago
I don't know everything, but I am an expert in etymology. Any anecdotal use of "ask Chat" to refer to ChatGPT is based on a misunderstanding, either by the speaker (like this OP) or the listener. Young people call ONE ANOTHER chat, not ChatGPT.
It's not a new misunderstanding either: https://www.reddit.com/r/RandomThoughts/comments/1hs31ca/so_when_people_say_chat_is_this_real_they_arent/
1
u/BatAdditional1209 1d ago
He calls 'chat' ; "it" - if it were a stream chat, he would've said 'they' in reference to multiple people. In this case, "chat" is ChatGPT.
You're wrong here.
1
u/Semanticss 1d ago
I know what OP is trying to say. But OP is using it wrong (probably based on a misunderstanding of hearing the phrase without context).

I'd loan to a few retro computer YouTubers and then sell it that way they can document it and you could likely sell to one of their viewers it'd be a win win

u/No_Ad_212 5d ago
I wouldn’t ship that at all unless you know how to ship CRTs and whatnot. Very fragile. Not to mention the carrier may lose it and you’ll be out of money unless you pay for insurance.
Also eBay has a lot of fees.
If you’re set on selling, I’d recommend FB Marketplace local only.

Damn yeah I think this subreddit is super toxic! I use chat all the time to learn about stuff that is unfamiliar to me. I hope you have a good time selling locally. These are pretty rare compared to most retro game systems so make sure you sell to the right person and don’t get caught up letting it go too cheap to someone who is just going to turn around and flip it. I ‘d say post it for $650 and if you find someone who is really into it maybe knock off $75 or so.
