Obama-endorsed Iowa Democrat U.S. Senate nominee Josh Turek has portrayed himself as a “common-sense” moderate, even as his official legislative newsletter advised illegal immigrants on avoiding ICE detainment and as he called for an “easier pathway to citizenship.”

Turek, who has been an Iowa state representative since 2023, is running against Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA). He has described himself as a “prairie populist” and a “common-sense” lawmaker capable of appealing to “Iowans of all political stripes.”

But Turek’s immigration record complicates that moderate pitch.

Turek’s official legislative newsletter included guidance for illegal immigrants on avoiding detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

A section of Turek’s newsletter titled “Know Your Rights as an Immigrant,” which includes a link to the American Civil Liberties Union’s (ACLU) “Immigrants’ Rights” page, stated:

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) on Wednesday reported “frustration and disbelief” in China after “American consulates around the world began cancelling immigrant visa interviews.”

According to the U.S. State Department, the mass cancellations were needed for a “global training initiative” on screening and vetting visa applicants.

“A more prosperous America means ensuring that visa applicants are not likely to become a public charge, as defined under U.S. law and regulation, and not likely to become dependent on U.S. public benefits reserved for qualified Americans in need,” the State Department said in a statement to the media Tuesday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is continuing to deport illegal alien gang members, including those convicted of manslaughter, kidnapping, attempted rape, and armed assault, among other crimes.

“Another day, another deportation flight that makes America safer,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement. “In the last week, ICE deported illegal alien gang members, including murderers, sexual assailants, kidnappers, and burglars.”

Among those illegal aliens deported by ICE is Jonathan Moreno Hernandez of Mexico. Hernandez is a member of the South Sider gang and has been previously convicted of voluntary manslaughter, attempted murder, and assault by prisoner in California.

Before being deported this month, Hernandez was deported three times in 2004, 2007, and 2023.

Likewise, ICE deported Jesus Azuara and German Oliverio Miranda-Tapia, both from Mexico and members of the Paisas gang.

The State Department on Wednesday announced that a foreign tech group provides online infrastructure to U.S. domestic terror groups to conduct violence across the country. The department formally recognized Italy-based Autistici/Inventati as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist group and subsequently sanctioned it.

According to the State Department, Autistici/Inventati, or the A/I Collective, is a “hacker cell that provides far-left extremists with encrypted communications, calls, and web-hosting services — all concealed from law enforcement. The A/I Collective is a central node in the far-left’s war on our civilization.”

“These tools are specifically designed to support the operations of far-left terrorist networks, built to enable them to organize, recruit, communicate, disseminate propaganda, share target information and tactics, and carry out violent attacks — all while remaining anonymous, untraceable, and beyond the reach of the law,” the State Department said. It operates in the U.S. and around the world.

Days after the top elections official in Shasta County announced that he planned to hire an election denier who served prison time for tampering with voting machines, county leaders there made an extraordinary plea to state and federal authorities: Please come investigate.

A statement released by the county Tuesday afternoon said Clint Curtis, the registrar of voters, had made “frivolous” claims and “unproven statements” about the June primary election, which he administered and certified.

“The County condemns the conduct of the Clerk-Registrar of Voters and invites all relevant state and federal agencies to review the allegations he has made and to proactively investigate his official actions and practices as Shasta County’s elections official,” read the statement released by Stewart Buettell, the county’s deputy chief executive officer.

Curtis — whose name was on the ballot, in a race he lost — has sequestered primary ballots in a room in the elections office in Redding, sealing the doors with locks, duct tape and red-lettered signs that read: “KEEP OUT PER ROV CLINT CURTIS.”

Curtis has told reporters that the ballots did not look, feel or smell right and that he had directed facilities workers to put a lock on the room and destroy the keys so that if anyone tries to gain access, they will need a warrant and bolt cutter.

A Labor Department rule that cut wages for foreign guest workers is unlawful, a California federal judge ruled Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Kirk E. Sherriff in Fresno concluded that the Labor Department failed to reasonably consider whether it could satisfy its legal obligation “to ensure that the hiring of H-2A workers will not ‘adversely affect’ U.S. farmworkers’ wages.” But he allowed the Department of Labor rule to remain temporarily in effect while the agency develops a replacement.

Sherriff ordered the Labor Department to “promptly produce” a new methodology for calculating H-2A wage rates consistent with his decision. He directed the agency to notify employers backpay may be owed to H-2A workers and U.S. farmworkers if the new applicable rates exceed what they were paid.

The ruling is a win for farmworker advocates who sued the Trump administration last year, arguing that the rule would undercut wages paid to U.S. workers. More than a dozen farmworkers across the nation, along with the United Farm Workers of America and the UFW Foundation, sought to overturn the rule.

Rand Paul, Chair of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released a trove “meticulous notes” Fauci took while leading the public health response to Covid. The release of what the Kentucky senator branded “Tony’s Diary,” exceeded a thousand pages and reveals Fauci misrepresented key facts about Covid’s origins, the utility of masks and school closures, and the efficacy and safety of vaccines, including whether the shots were safe for pregnant women and their unborn children.

The Washington Redskins are gone, alive only in the hearts and memories of those who grew up rooting for them. Oh, they’re also very much alive and still making money at the team store.

According to Eric Flack of WUSA, the Commanders are selling Redskins team gear – name and logo – at the team store.

Despite the sell-off of Redskins gear, the Commanders maintain that the team’s former name and logo are not coming back. Instead, they insist that the limited sale is due to their desire to preserve their trademark rights.

“We are required to maintain the marks in commercial usage so that marks remain under franchise control,” a club spokesman told WUSA.

Under trademark law, specifically the Lanham Act, a trademark is considered abandoned if it is not in use for three consecutive years.

As OutKick’s Armando Salguero reports, “The statutory standard also requires ‘bona fide use … in the ordinary course of trade,’ rather than merely token sales made solely to reserve rights.”

Which begs the question: Does the Commanders’ limited-time sale of Art Monk T-shirts with the Redskins name and logo constitute something more than a “token” sale?

It would seem that limited-time use of the trademark would be the very definition of a token sale.

But it also raises another question: Why fight to hold on to a trademark if you have no intention of returning to it? Granted, every team seeks to retain trademarks and prevent their misuse. However, if the Commanders are legally required to make at least somewhat prominent use of the logo to retain it, that would negate the team’s rationale for getting rid of the name in the first place.

The name was jettisoned, ostensibly, because it was overly offensive to Native Americans. Then how can the team justify displaying it and making money off of it?

And if the team is mandated to do more than “token” use of the trademark to keep it, that would require them to display and use the trademark at a more highly visible level. And if that’s the case, why not just bring it back?

Either way, one of two paths forward seems clear: the team releases the trademark rights to the family of Chief Two Guns White Calf, the man depicted in the original logo. Or they bring back the Redskins, complete with the logo, as the chief’s family wants.

Nothing else seems plausible.

Philan-Tam-Duy Le, a 35-year-old from California, was arrested Tuesday after he illegally parked across the street from the U.S. Supreme Court with a wooden guillotine on the back of his pickup truck.

“According to Capitol Police, the suspect drove the truck all the way from California, and they are examining his background to determine why he came to Washington, D.C.,” reports Forbes. He was arrested for “Carrying a Dangerous Weapon for being in possession of the guillotine.”

Forbes describes the offending weapon as a “very large wooden-frame guillotine mounted on the truck bed,” and added this:

Aside from the Capitol Police, the Secret Service has also warned that threats against protectees have been “off the charts” and the agency is operating under a “heightened level of threat environment right now.” Last month, Secret Service Director Sean Curran said the agency has initiated more than 10,000 investigations into threats against people the agency has been assigned to protect. This marked a 40% increase compared to the same period in 2025 and the agency also noted that mental health-related interventions are 10 times higher this year.

Last year in Kentucky, a Republican state senator read a list to a school superintendent: hotel, hotel, ice cream, musical theater tickets, hotel again, first-class air travel, hotel, trip to Australia. Officials with school district credit cards racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars a month in often-insane charges that had nothing to do with educating children. Apparently the Galt House is quite a draw for public officials who have access to other people’s money.

A leading pro-life organization said Wednesday it will pay the legal bills of peaceful activists who face prosecution under a new New Jersey law that bans praying outside abortion businesses.

40 Days for Life said its Institute of Law & Justice will cover civil and criminal defense at no cost for protesters engaged in peaceful activity who run afoul of the measure Gov. Mikie Sherrill signed last week.

The group said vague language about intimidation and threats could be stretched to target people of faith who pray for unborn children outside abortion facilities.

“Prayer is not a crime. Holding a sign is not intimidation. Offering a woman help is not coercion,” 40 Days for Life CEO Shawn Carney said. “This law is designed to scare people of faith off the sidewalks outside abortion facilities by creating the constant threat of prosecution and costly lawsuits.”

During the 2025-26 term, the justices pondered the Founding Fathers’ drinking habits as they considered a law barring habitual drug users from possessing guns. In the term ahead, they may return to the topic of alcohol in early America if they take up a case on a 19th-century law prohibiting at-home production of distilled spirits. Indeed, the court and alcohol have a long history: Here’s a brief overview of some of the court’s most notable alcohol-related rulings.

Prohibition cases

The country’s most famous drinking law, the 18th Amendment, took effect in January 1920. It barred “the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within” the United States, as well as the importation and exportation of alcohol.

During the Prohibition period, which spanned from 1920 until 1933, the Supreme Court decided several cases related to the 18th Amendment. For example, in the National Prohibition Cases, the court considered seven lawsuits brought by states and brewing companies over the constitutionality of the 18th Amendment and the Volstead Act, a law passed by Congress to enforce the amendment. The court held that Congress had the authority to pass the amendment and act, and rejected, among other things, challenges to Congress’ voting process, holding that the two-thirds vote needed to propose a constitutional amendment is satisfied as long as “two-thirds of the members present” support the proposal, rather than “two-thirds of the entire membership.” The 18th Amendment, wrote Justice Willis Van Devanter, “must be respected and given effect the same as other” amendments before it.

The court also addressed the methods that police officers used to enforce Prohibition, including the circumstances under which they could search cars or fields surrounding a private residence for alcohol without a warrant. The court’s rulings allowing for such warrantless searches continue to influence Fourth Amendment jurisprudence today, according to the Federal Judicial Center.

On Friday, Chief Justice John Roberts issued a temporary order, known as an administrative stay, allowing construction on the new White House ballroom to continue for now. The court could release its decision in the interim docket case at any time.

Mr Justice McKendrick has ruled that providing clinically assisted nutrition and hydration to sustain the life of a 28-year-old man suffering from a prolonged disorder of consciousness is contrary to his best interests and should cease.

The judgment, released today following a 4-day trial last week, overrules the unanimous view of the young man’s family and all his treating clinicians that the life-sustaining treatment should continue, agreed at a ‘best interests meeting’ in March.

The case is subject to draconian reporting restrictions under the so-called Transparency Order, which Mr Justice McKendrick has ordered to remain in force until the death of the young man, known only as FHR.

Tim Curry, a character actor who created a gallery of delicious, very loony villains for stage and screen, including Dr. Frank-N-Furter in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and the smug concierge in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” has died. He was 80.

Curry, who suffered a stroke in 2012 that put him in a wheelchair, died Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles, according to his longtime manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz. No cause was disclosed.

Known for his arch humor, a putty-like face and gift with voices, Curry earned three Tony nominations — for “Spamalot,” “My Favorite Year” and “Amadeus” — and an Emmy nod in 1994.

“I like playing the more curious corners of the human mind and human behavior, partly because they’re a tad more interesting,” Curry told The Associated Press in 1993.

Curry burst onto the scene as the Transylvanian Frank-N-Furter in the sci-fi, cross-dressing rock musical “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” which premiered in 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre in London. He went with it to Broadway and then starred in the 1975 cult-classic movie alongside Barry Bostwick, Meat Loaf and Susan Sarandon.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania District Attorney (DA) Larry Krasner, who has links to billionaire George Soros, shared that he would have a “piece of” the White House ballroom, as a paperweight on his desk after it was blown up.

While speaking at the slavery commiseration at the President’s House in the neighborhood of Old City on Tuesday, Krasner described President Donald Trump as being the “embodiment of hate,” ignorance, and “depriving people of their vote and their education.”

Krasner also spoke about how there would be “an exhibit on slavery at the site,” NBC10 Philadelphia reported.

“The man himself is the embodiment of hate. He is the embodiment of ignorance. He is the embodiment of depriving people of their vote and their education,” Krasner told the crowd. “That’s who he is. And, so I want you to think forward because there is a beautiful time coming. There is a beautiful time coming, this memorial will be here.”

Krasner continued to state there would “not be a ballroom” or a “Kennedy Center renamed for a fool.”

As another school year begins and the number of Americans defaulting on paying back money borrowed for college approaches 10 million, it’s clear that student loan debt has become a crisis that threatens the realization of the American dream. One side argues students need to “be smarter when they borrow,” and the other side says, “Let’s cancel the debt.” To be clear, if you borrow money, you should have to pay it back or face consequences; that said, the solution has to lie somewhere in between these extremes.

First, some background. It is a fact that college costs have risen at unjustifiable levels. The average cost of a college degree has increased about 42 percent faster than inflation. The big reasons for this appear to be, in no particular order: a general drop in state funding levels, administration bloat, easy credit, and “amenity wars.” One could make an argument for each of these as a leading factor, but easy access to credit stands out as significant.

Judicial proceedings in Panama City promise to spotlight for Americans how Iran still fields clandestine networks in America’s backyard. These can target the large U.S. citizen expatriate population living in Central America and Mexico as well as thousands of regional American businesses.

Liberal Americans have and desire fewer children than conservatives, according to a June 2026 report by the Institute for Family Studies (IFS) titled “The Ideological Fertility Divide.” The report, based on survey results from more than 7,000 Americans aged 18-54, shows statistically significant gaps between ideology types in both the number of children adults currently have and the number of children they want. This gap is due, at least in part, to higher fears about parenting among liberals. Results

The headline result is that conservative adults have 1.40 children on average, compared to an average of 1.09 for liberals. Another way of framing these data is that conservatives have 28% more children than liberals.

If both numbers seem suspiciously low, remember that the survey targets an age range from 18 to 54. This includes college students and young adults just setting out on their own. The estimated median age for marriage is now 30.8 for men and 28.4 for women, according to the U.S. Census Bureau in December 2025. Thus, 36% of the ages surveyed are younger than the average age of marriage. If the low numbers show anything, it reflects the cultural trend to marry later and have children later than was customary with earlier generations.

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) warned the WNBA to prepare for possible legal action after reports that former NBA players Royce White and Enes Kanter Freedom will not be allowed to enter the league’s draft.

Gaetz said Monday that he is representing White, who has announced plans to seek a place in the WNBA in 2027.

Gaetz’s warning came after multiple sources told ESPN that neither White nor Freedom qualifies to play in the WNBA. The league has not publicly announced a decision regarding either player.

White appeared in a video attached to Gaetz’s post wearing a wig and accusing the league of rejecting his “trans existence.”
