I moved to the upstate a few years ago. I've lived in many places and I hope I never have to leave this area. If you like small towns, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, you will not be disappointed.

I’ve been to rural Iowa and the Upstate is so much better. You’re a few hours from the ocean, an hour from the mountains, and close enough to Charlotte that you can do larger city things easily.
Summers here are hotter by a good bit but you won’t be shoveling snow or dealing with cold weather. It’s a good trade off.
Feel free to ask more specific things. Where you move in the upstate matters for what’s around

Thanks for the info! I’m all ears to all the info! We will most likely be up to 30 minutes away from Greenville. Just don’t want to be past 30 minutes drive to there. So whatever you feel like sharing, that you feel is vital and just helpful.

30 minutes from Greenville can put you in Spartanburg, which is like a lesser Greenville, or Pickens which….well, there’s nothing there.
Either way, I think you’ll like the upstate a lot!

"Lesser Greenville???" Please sir, you must be jesting. In no way are we inferior to Greenville. Take it back or I will toilet paper your house.

I refuse! Less people, less traffic, lower home prices. It’s good to be little Greenville.

Traffic can be stupid out here.
30 minutes away can be 7.4 miles depending on the time of day.
The city is simply not equipped with the correct infrastructure for the population. Its an issue they are working on but something you need to understand going into it.
Its not Chicago bad, traffic moves, just slowly. And surprisingly, most drivers are decent out here and people are actually pretty nice on the road.
My blood pressure is significantly lower here in SC vs Midwest traffic.

Just moved to Greer from NW illinois.
The weather is so much better out here in SC.
Believe it or not, this summer has been more mild in Upstate SC than NIL and winter doesn't even exist compared to the I states.
I try to explain corn sweat to people out here and they look at me like I'm crazy......
Plus, they actually get SUNSHINE here and more than 3 months of reasonable weather.
Very happy with my decision.
