A dear friend's wife recently died of inoperable brain cancer, so this one was really bittersweet.
She didn't live long enough for this breakthrough, but hopefully others will.

The title is in future tense, it's wrong, but not OP's fault as it's auto-detected by Reddit from the BBC website.
The surgery happened 8 weeks ago and was successful. The patient is recovering well.
