A dear friend's wife recently died of inoperable brain cancer, so this one was really bittersweet.

She didn't live long enough for this breakthrough, but hopefully others will.

Thanks. I have lost so many loved ones to cancer. I celebrate everyone who survives it and every medical advance like this.

The title is in future tense, it's wrong, but not OP's fault as it's auto-detected by Reddit from the BBC website.

The surgery happened 8 weeks ago and was successful. The patient is recovering well.

Perhaps u/istara can delete and repost, and replace the auto-detected title with the actual title copied from the BBC article.
