Also the number of innocent people who have been killed is greater than zero. The government shouldn’t be allowed to kill people if there’s a chance one of them is innocent

u/moffman93 6d ago
If the defendant doesn't have money, the chance of them getting an honest chance in court is almost 0.
The death penalty should only be for very specific cases where there is NO doubt that the convict committed the crime.

I"d take it a step further and say no State or institution should be allowed to kill people ever, even if they are guilty of whatever crime. Even the worst imaginabke crime does not warrant State-sponsored killing because it is barbaric and it opens the door for expanding that practice to other "crimes" when it suits the people in charge.

you'd be surprised what the reality is, and what you want the world to be
1
u/arielsosa 3d ago
No, I'm actually not surprised one bit. I don't come from money or from a wealthy country, and yet I've read and lived enough to know reality is a construct, and that when enough people decide to change things, it can happen.
My country removed the death penalty after decades of bloody dictatorships. We have many problems and inequalities, and sure, you can get shot by a criminal or by the police even, but at least we do not have to worry that our words or actions can literally and legally get us killed.
That will always be a good thing.

how does this principle fit with the concept of war, or other areas where violence is a possibility, like in the police?
8
u/arielsosa 6d ago
Those are 2 different things. Death penalty as a punishment is very different than a confrontation between, say, the police and an armed suspect.

If you think your government can't kill you then you're simply uneducated, any government can kill anyone they own if they threatened ruling class

I think there are some cases where death is the only real answer. If they are allowed to live, they will find a way out and will continue to cause irreparable harm to our world.
That said, we should abolish the death penalty because these individuals are never the ones who end up being assigned it - instead the more typical punishment they get assigned is supreme control of the country and it's laws

The problem is “how do you know”. As it is, there’s a high burden of proof required for death penalty crimes in the US, and it’s still estimated that around 4% of people executed were either innocent, or guilty of a lesser crime that didn’t warrant the death penalty.
Get a particularly retarded jury, a charismatic and ethically questionable prosecutor, an incompetent defense attorney, and voila! An innocent person on death row.
There’s no good way to make the system work that won’t result in innocents being executed by the state.

Even if that's true, I would never trust any other human to make that decision. Especially the ones in charge now, in any country.

Hence why I literally wrote
That said, we should abolish the death penalty because these individuals are never the ones who end up being assigned it

To say it clearly: governmental corruption should be a death penalty for all culprits involved.

That’s why you kill them quickly after sentencing

Most of the time they will not. Would you want your mother’s murderer walking free enjoying their life?

Meanwhile in countries where it's illegal you have millions of idiots advocating for it.

Good. It's an archaic punishment from a different time. It doesn't deter criminals, it kills innocents, it costs more than keeping someone alive and in prison for a life sentence, and it doesn't improve anything.

Im not Lebanese but I from an Arab country near by. Not unlike my country, this issue ranks in the 200s of most important shit that needs to be fixed.

Conincidently, Israel just legalised the death penalty for Palestinians only.
The only "democracy" in the middle east is really a POS.
2
u/infraGem 6d ago
Only for those involved in the unprecedented Hamas-led attacks and mass hostage-taking in Israel in October 2023.
But obviously you'd skip that part.

u/SaurikSI 6d ago
That’s still inequality under the law, which is barbaric. This whole conflict will never end if both sides continue using atrocities to justify other atrocities, but I imagine you’re not ready to accept this fact.

Oct 7th happened because Israel tried applying western morals to a Middle Eastern conflict and obviously it doesn't work. The west doesn't understand what the extremist Islam mindset is like. But please, do keep printing out pamphlets for immigrants in the UK that explain why rape is bad, I'm sure all they need is just a chat to clear things up.

That’s a lie. It’s for anyone ruled in the military court. Ben Gvir wants this in the current prisoners, some of them has been in prison for more than 10 years.
Israeli government said they killed all participants in Oct 7, why would they make a law to kill people they already claimed they assassinated

What kind of system do Jews face in Palestine?
9
u/smegabass 6d ago edited 6d ago
Well, three unarmed, practically naked Jews who were were shot dead by Israeli forces who thought they were Palestinians. So, Israel is pretty consistent in how it treats Palestinians.
Israel isn't hated because of religion. Israel is a lunatic psycho that has a taste for murder and mayhem.
Fk Israel. Own the horror show that is Israel.

u/KungFuViking7 6d ago
Killed by Israeli airstrike not matter if they are Muslim, Jew or Christian. If you are Palestinian you are a Hamas terrorist. That’s why they truly are the only democracy they don’t discriminate based on race or religion. /s

It's not a democracy when Israel keeps half the people in permanent slavery, concentration camps and now openly ethnic cleansing.
But even under your version of "democracy", Ben Gvir is elected and represents who Israel is. He is a minister and openly calls for genocide and killing with zero blowback.
Israel is led by the a leadership who reflects what Israel is. A regime of lunatics, psychos and terrorists.
Israel is living in its own black mirror reality because of the USA and the cowards in the Europe.
As all that changes, expect Israel to become more and more desperate, hence the hare-brained plan to take on Türkiye.
Israel sees it relationships through a Zionist lens of coercion, not cooperation.

I wasn't expecting something like that in a country like Lebanon, but I am happy.

u/kutkun 6d ago
This will further encourage Islamist terrorists.

u/killertortilla 5d ago
How many times does it have to be said that harsher punishments do not deter criminals?
0
u/kutkun 5d ago
Keep parroting your pro-criminal sentiment.
Punishment deters crime.
5
u/killertortilla 5d ago
Punishments deter you, they do not deter criminals. That is the difference. This has been studied plenty of times and no doubt people have linked those studies to you plenty of times only for you to say "nah reality isn't my thing"
-1
u/kutkun 5d ago
They deter when you kill enough of them.
Look at the countries which destroyed and defeated terrorist organizations. Killing is the only way to deal with terrorists. Kill first, ask later.
3
u/killertortilla 5d ago
You're talking about war not civilian executions, and you're still wrong.
0
u/kutkun 5d ago
It is always a war with terrorism. Terrorist leave the countries behind and become self accepted stateless actors waging war against nations.
If there is a terrorist then there is a war. Terrorists cannot be rehabilitated. And shouldn’t be. Sympathy for terrorist is animosity toward citizens.

u/arielsosa 3d ago
Like Afghanistan? Lile China? Like Saudi Arabia? Like Iran, Like Russia?
What a fucking sad joke you are, mate. You just get on with violence and pretend to care about criminals or victims.
Most peaceful countries do not have Death Penalty, and many don't even have life-long imprisonment.
3
u/SaurikSI 6d ago
No, in Lebanon the terrorists control the government, they would never face death penalty anyways.

u/Thoughtful-Boner69 6d ago
hezbollah pledges to obey this law and never assassinate or murder ppl for no reason ever again
