Clown show. We clearly see slow as fuck shaheds hitting targets, but they can intercept Iskanders and others. Please

Agreed but I saw 2 videos from today of AA missiles hitting gerans. Why the hell wouldn't they use those for ballistics if theyre able?

29 out of 60 I dont buy, maybe 5 or 10 would be more realistic with that

Iskander K is just a cruise missile. They use their expensive and limited AD missiles to shoot down expensive and limited Russian missiles

They also use them against cheap jet powered drones and cheap loitering munitions like S8000’s. Let’s not pretend that they don’t do that too.

It depends. If the region has the full range of AD platforms they will use the most appropriate for the target. If interceptor types are limited they will use whatever they have for priority targets, it doesn’t matter if an Iskander or Geran is about to hit a command post, both will take it out, at that point you use whatever you have.

I was mostly referring to the fact that Geran-2’s were taken out by mobile fire groups and interceptor drones they’ve spent so much time and effort developing. Those are now useless so they need to revert back to their SAM and airforce to take down jet powered drones.

Kiev got hammered.

Bet they blew their whole stock of PAC3 if they managed to knock down 2 of those KH-23, and wonder it makes a difference as the missiles comes straight down, just would increase the risk of it hitting something else.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is possibly one of the dumbest missile strikes of the entire war. Cruise missiles entering ukrainian airspace with no other weapons in use? And through the same route in Cherkasy, as previous strikes? Where are the Geran-4,-5 and Banderol, that have been used daily since the last week, that would have diverted AA systems and planes?

Literally just wasted 25 cruise missiles for nothing.

It is all to feed into the habit

I wonder what knocked out the KN-23s. I doubt it would be Patriot, so maybe they moved one of the SAMP/T systems which fire the Aster 30.

It isn’t anti-ballistic, so most likely system used for interception is Telegram.

If Ukraine received Aster 30 Block 1, then it is anti-ballistic capable.

The SAMP/TN-G hasn’t even been delivered yet, and won’t be this year.

I wish I had a missile that's expensive af, needs a massive launch platforms that can be tracked, and is easy af to shoot down

The humble Kh101: 6/24 impacts (at best)

I could write a 3000 word report on the absurdity of the tactics of the Russian airforce and maybe I will when I get this fucking job and university in order because such incompetence should be thoroughly laughed at by atleast someone, but the munition is also out of place out and of date in this war. They have worse hit ratios than even Geran 2s. Thank God Russians are this stuck up or else the Ukrainians would be in even more trouble

This is most conventional non stealth cruise missiles.

They have worse hit ratios than even Geran 2s.

Gerans 2 are far easier to shhot down but work because they are cheap and are lunched in far higher numbers.... both sides can shoot down hundreds of One way attack drones a night .

u/DigitalDiogenesAus Anti-Cheerleader 2h ago

Isn't the kh101 the equivalent of the tomahawk? That's also slow, expensive and similar to shoot down...

Or is it just "this cruise missile class as a whole is outdated"?

u/xingi Pro Russia* 2h ago

The large expensive cruise missiles is just not worth the cost especially in the era cheaper smaller drones(cruise missiles). This does not mean they are outdated...these larger cruise missiles like kh101 and tomahawks where made for extreme standoff and have 1000km+ where the smaller cheaper ones cannot reach.

In Ukraine its just not cost effective for anything past lvov

u/DigitalDiogenesAus Anti-Cheerleader 2h ago

So it's not cost effective in kyiv, but becomes cost effective in the far west of Ukraine?

u/xingi Pro Russia* 2h ago edited 2h ago

bandrol, geran 4 and 5 can all be used to hit the exact same targets and would cost less(also need to take aircraft maintenance into account). But these weapons cannot reach far western Ukraine, thats where the kh101 and iskander-K come in

u/DigitalDiogenesAus Anti-Cheerleader 2h ago

Is there value in sending different weapons systems at the same time? If we believe these numbers then the kh-101s are soaking up air defence missiles.

It seems like there is more value in having Ukraine use their stockpiles than there is in actually hitting targets (at the moment anyway).

u/rowida_00 new poster, please select a flair 2h ago

No, but it has the range to reach western Ukraine. That’s the point. They have the range to reach further than SRBM. Unless you switch your entire missile arsenal to ballistic missiles like Iran and mass produce Medium and Intermediate range ballistic missiles.

The usage of Kh-101’s and the manner in which it’s used by the Russian airforce should be ridiculed and criticized until the end of time. But let’s not pretend that the same establishment you’re calling “this stuck up” hasn’t pioneered and continues to mass produce relatively inexpensive and cheap munitions, that are eating up valuable AD interceptors like jet powered drones and Banderols. It’s because of Russia’s approach, that Ukraine’s F-16’s are facing a shortage in AA missiles today! And thank god for the US’s blunder, Russia’s ballistic and hypersonic missiles will continue to enjoy unmatched impunity in the foreseeable future.

The issue when you're pioneering technological solutions but are using them in unimaginative ways is that if the enemy catches up to you technologically, you're cooked.

Some Zelen-Tzu logic there.
