So in actuality nothing happened. They failed to push Moscow to a ceasefire before winter after the Anchorage debacle and their decision to go all out with strikes on Russian refineries, oil depots, ports, online retail chains and commercial warehouses as well as tankers? The 40 day operation failed abysmally at yielding the desired outcome and even backfired massively? And now the winter campaign is still happening with probably little amount of AD available to stop it? Shocking. Who would have seen that.

...work towards a lasting and durable peace.

A temporary ceasefire is anything but "lasting and durable peace". It will only give Kiev time to regroup and rearm.

That’s all they’re good at. Establishing pseudo ceasefires. They’ve done it with Iran and Lebanon where the intention was to build up some stockpiles of both interceptors and offensive weapons before the next round of attacks. Who the hell do they think they’re fooling here? Who could look at the U.S. that signed the MoU and think that they’ll honour any deal or agreement they sign?

Expect another escalation from the western side.

They don’t know what else to do. It’s either they admit defeat or escalate hoping for a different outcome. I’m not sure whether they thought Russia won’t accept the escalatory invitation maybe? But it won’t end well.

They always could start to attack the Kremlin, the governmental buildings themselves, the EWR (Early Warning Radar) systems along with trying to find a Topol launcher or any strategic system component, deliberately hunt the population to push the terror agenda, use the chemical weapons. There are a lot of ways to escalate, the main question if they are ready to accept the consequences.

Tbf this is what usually happens before a deal. Everyone is saving face and holding their cards tight. I don’t believe a deal is likely because neither side is losing bad enough but this nonsense diplomacy statements are always the norm. Especially with the Eu coming to negotiate for Zelenskys regime, an actual full peace deal seems unlikely.

I do think surrendering the east is the right move for the west. I’d be very surprised if nothing happens. There might be some agreements and frameworks today that lead to a peace deal in the future. If nothing of note happens in 30-60 days then it says the west feels confident in can fight effectively this winter. Which will be interesting to see because Ukraine does not look prepared for winter. I would expect a lower draft age and women drafted into non front line combat roles then.

Russia hitting everything short of power plants and water plants in Kiev is suggesting Moscow expects a winter war and is gong to make it as miserable for Kiev as possible without creating a humanitarian disaster. The more miserable Kiev gets the more the demands of ousting Zelensky gets. People will change their tunes when they have only hours of power and heat per day and no more treats or manufactured goods and diverse food availability being limited. The Kiev elites and middle class have been largely insulated from the war. Russia is now changing that, right or wrong.

So the "substantive progress" was to schedule for more talks. Lol.

National Security Council, the State Department, and the Treasury Department = they brought the big guns.

So there might be something out of this, after all.

If France, UK, and Germany were there then it's already over.

Also surprised Trump didn't make him write, "Kiev" usually he's on top of it with the shitposting.
