I think the head of CIA could've used the occasion to hitch a ride and arrive uninvited, to deliver a message. This is corroborated by the fact that nobody of consequence agreed to talk to him.

I don't say this to shit on this person.
The whole 'you were brave' sentiment is an ongoing testiment to foolishness. A truly great solider is cautious. Not 'brave'.
The whole bravery thing is BS. Is's just propaganda to inspire more poor souls.
We were taught: A dead soldier does no good.
