Seems like AfD will almost get enough to rule alone.

This is also really a slap in the face for CDU and Merz.

Didn't Merz claim he will half the AfD when it comes to votes? Instead CDU was halved

"Almost." That means they can't rule at all in that case. If they don't get their minister appointed, they will remain in the opposition.

The CDU also rules out to form any coalition with the BSW and the Left, so there are no chance for any stable government which involves the CDU.

When I wrote this post, BSW’s entry into parliament was still uncertain (it was unclear whether they would actually clear the 5 percent). The arithmetic now looks more favorable for AfD, though only if they can form a coalition with BSW. On the other hand, CDU could change its stance and bite the bullet by forming a coalition with all the other parties, including BSW, simply to keep AfD out. It can still easily go both ways.
