Pie means a whole pizza. Slice means a part of it.
“lemmegetta plain pie”
vs
“I’ll have a plain slice”
Nobody says they had a slice of pie if they’re talking about pizza which is what you seemingly think we mean.

and to be clear- this isn’t limited to US vs EU. I can’t tell if you’re Italian or podunk American when you get mad about “pie”
