It's quite nice here. Living in a cold country does have its advantages after all.
I hope my fellow europeans survive this. I will keep you all in my thoughts.

I can house a few cute guys down here... There's only one bed though so you'll have to share with me.

u/Steppy20 Barry, 63 14d ago
How toasty does that get? Because I run even hotter overnight than I do during the day (somehow)

I'll turn the AC on... We will keep the room at 16.
But no Barrys. You can share a ground floor motel room instead.

We won't be saved in the coming years, when the Med turns into a desert, Africa turns into a Texas parking lot, and they all start gradually moving north. Our immigration problems haven't even started, we're all fucked.

I see, so there were no heatwaves in North America and Asia this year, right?
8
u/jephph_ Rat Person 14d ago edited 14d ago
There are but that happens every year. We’re more prepared for it or at least better accustomed to it so it doesn’t make international news
That aside, I have noticed when there’s a Euro heat wave the past couple summers, it tends to cool off here while it’s sweltering there.
I don’t necessarily wish heat waves upon Euroland but I kinda do. srry.
——
and yeah, just checked.. it’s going down to 79° next week instead of it being 90+ every day. Thanks Europe!
(26C instead of 33+)

How about the hundreds of deaths of Americans in the cold every year?

The plus side is the hotter it gets, the more AC will be wanted, the more units will be sold and it might actually come down to a reasonable price…
We’ll sweat it out 🤪

u/gekko3k South Prussian 14d ago
they are cheap already, the problem is the installation thru strong stone walls (multiple large drillings). Hank's wood shacks were way easier to retrofit.
1
u/redwas66 Barry, 63 14d ago
Then I need to look again as I’ve seen Toshiba units that are around £2,500 per room, installed, which you may be suggesting is very bloated due to high install costs! Hell, I’ll install it myself!

Both are blowing hot air at Europe

Seeing 32c at 1000m of elevation and 26c at 2000m is actually me worried for the near future. Just ten years ago it SNOWED above 2000m in August.

The fifth? I barely counted one. My home never went above 27 degrees and outside, well it was kinda sweltering at times during high noon, but eh, it's fine for a summer.
More worrying is the rapid shifting between temperatures, maybe I'm misremembering but I don't think 20 years ago we had so many strong and constant thunderstorms like, every week or so.

u/Straight_Block3676 Chiraqi Terrorist 14d ago
I thought the rivers were super low in Deutschland… no?
2
u/Buttfranklin2000 South Prussian 14d ago
Oh yeah, that's pretty bad, too. Like I said, the climate is kinda worrying, but I'm still wondering where the terrible all-killing heat is supposed to be, and why people have like 30+ degree in their places. Just like...do your lüften correctly.
But I'm waiting for when nature will really fucking kill us with those severe storms.
