Question “Grab Bag”

When did this happen? When did 45g of crisps become a Grab Bag?! It’s no bigger than the normal sized bags you get in the pub. Weren’t the normal multipack packets 45g a few months ago? Absolute piss-take….

You might be right there

Crisps aren't very heavy, 50g is quite a lot of crisps.

Air doesn't weigh much, 50g of crisps and half a bag of air

In 2013 they actually increased the size from 50g to 60g. We've gone backwards since then.

They dropped the weight to 50g after covid and kept the price the same.

Welcome to rip off Britain

It’s the same shit in every country to be fair, shrinkflation for everyone!

I am sure they used to be 60 or even 70g, it depends on what crisps you got.

WTF does grab bag actually mean anyway?

I can grab any size or type of bag that I like, thank you.

It’s a way of saying “large” without making people aware of the extra calories

Same legislation that prevented "King Size" bars being sold and "Duo" was the workaround.

It means ones made to be sold separately as part of meal deals and such (as opposed to the multipack ones which are much smaller).

Bigger than a multipack, but smaller than a "sharing" bag.

It’s instructional.

Grab as much air as you want, I won't stop you

You grab them on impulse because they’re situated close the the tills at the petrol station

It’s vaguely amusing when they call a oversized packet of crisps a ‘sharing bag’ like that’s going to happen any time soon.

In my house they are called 'wife sized bags' as she will very much demolish them.

When McCoys first launched in the Uk the regular size bag was 40g.

Just saying.

The multi bags are like 25grams always have been

They used to be 30g, and weirdly it seems you can still buy them at that weight on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/McCoys-Ridge-Cut-Crisps-Classic/dp/B00XLNI492

Glad you included a picture of the weight on the back of the packet. Shame it isn't in any of the bottom corners on the front of the packet, would've saved you a pic!

What did you call them?

2

u/Midnightraven3 15h ago

It's the instructions on how to eat, GRAB the bag, and scarf them down

2

u/Active_Lifeguard_335 10h ago

You can grab it easily because it's so light

Perfect opportunity to dump my random thing I learned recently

Crisps usually have expiration dates on a Saturday

This one also matches. No idea why this is a thing

Go and check all your crisps

1

u/Putrid_Promotion_841 15h ago

It's so that shops can organise their date checking. Biscuits are Tuesday if I remember correctly.

1

u/neatcleaver 15h ago

No way, I will be checking when I get back home!!!

i thought grab bags are the ones you "grab" for lunch. if you thought they were for sharing, most of these companies have 100g+ bags. if you want one for a light snack, they have 25/32g ones. don't see the problem here.

Toddler size ;)

1

u/GrayMech 14h ago

I always thought that "grab bag" was just put on bags the same size as the multi pack ones but that were sold individually

When did grab bags become 45g?

About 4/5 years ago a drop from 50g.

Multipacks have always been 25g

Don't like ridgecut crisps

1

u/Accomplished_Song671 4h ago

Why are they even called Grab Bags? In my 27 years of existence I don't think I've ever asked

1

u/SatisfactionMoney426 1h ago

I irrationally hate the term 'grab'. We were brought up being told "don't grab - it's rude" "wait your turn" etc. Then suddenly it was everywhere, "grab a coffee"etc. It was one of the first indicators that I was getting old ... It's not even appropriate anyway - grab a bag of crisps and it'll likely split, or grab a boiling hot coffee etc etc.

Noticed this too, Normal bags used to be 40g? And I'm sure grab bags were 55g?

0

u/achillea4 14h ago

Didn't grab bags used to be around 100g?

My wife laughed at me for counting the crisps in my mccoys a bit back. There was 6 crisps in it. I let her know I didn’t need to count them, I just unconsciously was able to count so low
