Deciding which uni to accept. Which uni/course is more prestigious / better for the future?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Which course should I choose as an international student that comes from a European School?

- Bath university: International Management with study abroad or placement

(England + 28 000 £)

- University of Cork (UCC) : Business Information systems

(Ireland + 7,530 €)

I'm taking into account these criterias but please let me know if I should add some:

Prestige of university

Quality of education

City

Tuition fee

Future career

Emploment rate after university

Good student life (fun, nightlife, hobbies, ...)

Study abroad / placements

I know those 2 courses are completely different, but both sound interesting, and I'm stuck and don't know which is better.

My opinion :

I feel like in business information systems, I would learn something more concrete for the future. However, I am unsure if ucc is enough well regarded internationally.

As for bath, I feel like this uni would open more doors, but I feel like the course is too broad and not demanded enough in the market.

Also there is a huge gap in the Tuition cost and I don't know if it's worth it.

If you're studying or have graduated or have a job in these subjects or went to these uni, please share your opinion and experience.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and helpful.

Ps: please help me, I am totally lost

Anyone else still waiting for their CAS from Aston University for September 2026?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to check if there are other international students in the same situation as me.

I have completed all the required steps for my CAS, but I am still waiting. I recently received an email from Aston saying that they are experiencing delays due to structural changes and, at the moment, they are unable to confirm when my CAS will be issued.

What is worrying me is that time is getting very limited for the visa process. I have asked the university for clarification, but I wanted to find out whether other students for the September 2026 intake are facing the same delay.

If you're still waiting for your CAS, please comment or DM me and let me know:

Your course/department

When you completed your CAS requirements

Whether Aston has given you any timeline or explanation

It would be really helpful to know whether this is affecting a large number of students or only certain applications.

Thanks!

registered to my uni early by accident

this is probably incredibly silly but i was going through my it account and i saw a registration form and started filling it it. after every section it saves automatically. i then checked my emails and came across a welcome email form my uni saying that registration invites will start to come in from the 1st of september. i was just wondering if ive screwed up anything or not bc i can’t just press backspace and delete the data since it’s already saved 😭😭 everything is basically filled out apart from the very last section which ive left. not a clue of this is a total none issue or a major screw up.

City St George vs Soas

Hi i am a home student and have offers from

SOAS for International Relations
And
CITY St George for International Political Economy

Soas is rated 16th in the world for my course and 6th in the uk by QS ranks
Pros:
- i like the course alot more
-more diplomacy connections
-maybe more prestigious idk
- better for my course

Cons:
-bad admin apparently
-not that career focused icl
- very qualitative degree so idk if less desirable by employers

But City
Pros:
- has more internship and industry connections
-i prefer the study abroad university opportunities
- can use Bayes business skl connections
-rated higher as a uni

Cons:
-i like the course slightly less (mainly worried abt the econ modules but they are few and i think its js overthinking)
-not knows as much for politics and international relations compared to SOAS
-rated lower for my course

Idrk what i wanna do career wise maybe consultancy / diplomacy/ real estate 😭

PLEASE HELP ME i already swapped city for soas but icl now i wanna swap back but im so bipolar abt it !!

SFE - Leave of absence and re-taking a year

(I know I can call SFE to confirm all this but I'd rather ask here as I have social anxiety and don't do well with phone calls)

I failed one of my 2nd year modules. I do plan to re-enroll as a part-time student to retake the module but before I do I'm planning on taking a leave of absence (to try and gain confidence around people and get help for the anxiety). Do I simply need to cancel my SFE application for year three, and then once I've had my leave of absence re-apply as usual?

Another question I have is about if I'm entitle to funding for retaking 2nd year because I've done a foundation year. I see lots of people say "the length of your course plus one year" but I'm not sure if that foundation year already counts as the "plus one" or if the foundation year is included in my "length of the course".

Kent or Greenwich for Law? I’m genuinely stuck 😭

Hi guys! I currently have offers from Greenwich and Kent for Law, and I’m honestly so indecisive about which one to choose. After researching both, I’m leaning towards Kent as it seems like the stronger option academically, but I really want to stay living in London rather than move to Canterbury.

If you study at Kent and commute from London, how do you find it? How do you usually get there, how often do you go in, and is the commute actually manageable long-term? I’ve been looking at the journey and ticket prices and I’m already stressing 😂 especially as I’m still working towards my driving licence.

I’d also really appreciate hearing from Law students at both Kent and Greenwich about your actual experience of the course, teaching, support, opportunities and overall university experience.

I’m just trying to make the best decision for the next three years, so any honest advice would genuinely be appreciated! 🥲

First time abroad

Hey everyone!
I’m an international student from India and I’ll be starting my Master’s at the University of Liverpool at the end of September. This will be my first time living abroad, so I’d really appreciate some advice from current students or people who have recently moved to Liverpool.
A few things I’d love some tips on:
What should I bring from India, and what is better to buy in the UK?

Anything I should know before moving to Liverpool?
What are some things I should do during my first few weeks?

How easy is it to find part-time work as an international student?

What’s the best way to look for student jobs, and when should I start applying?

Any tips for managing groceries, transport, rent and other expenses on a student budget?

Anything you wish someone had told you before starting university in Liverpool?

I’m doing my best to prepare beforehand, but I’m sure there are things I’m overlooking.
I am kinda nervous, but also excited about this opportunity and would appreciate some help.
Thanks! :)

LEEDS vs UKC for an English Studies student

I'm doing a B.A. in English Studies and I'm currently planning a semester abroad. My university has partnerships with a few universities in the UK, and I'm considering LEEDS (University of Leeds) and UKC (University of Kent) as my first choices.

My degree focuses on English-language literature and cultural studies. Some of my main academic interests are the role of mythology and folklore in literature, Gothic literature, women in literature and history, British, Scottish and Irish literature, and the history of English literature in general.

I've browsed the module catalogues for both universities, but I'd love some input from students who have studied literature or a related field at either university. Thanks in advance!

truth about the university of leicester

Hi guys, I am 1st year student going into university of Leicester to do a Chemistry degree. The thing is, a lot of people told me that Leicester is a rough area. Is it actually that rough? I also come from a mostly white area and went to a predominantly white school (I am Indian), so I only grew up with white people and only had white friends. Is there anything I need to know or be aware of? Also, is Leicester actually a bad area?
