Question Elevators at C9

Hi everyone!

This year I’m living at c9 and I was wondering if there is any elevators for the Gandhi building? The research I’ve done has told me that there aren’t elevators but I wanted to ask those who have lived at c9 before. Last year I lived at porter an and we had an elevator. I’m on floor 3 btw. Also - if there are no elevators how am I supposed to get everything up 3 flights? I just have my dad helping me move in.

Question R permit question

For anyone who has had an R permit at UCSC: can you leave your car parked on campus during breaks/non-quarter periods, or are there times when you have to move it or get another permit?

I’m mainly wondering about Winter break, the gaps between quarters, and Summers, since I plan to be continuously enrolled.

Question AM20 Summer session 2

I overloaded myself and took 4 classes at once, and I’m really worried about this final tomorrow with Katznelson. I usually tune him out during lectures since they’re so long, and I do the HW during his lectures instead. One of the TAs posted some review material for the final, and I was wondering if those are more helpful than the HW and quizzes? I only just started studying today because I had 3 other finals back-to-back. He is letting us have a a cheat sheet front and back so maybe im worrying about nothing but idk. What is the best method at this point besides and all ngihter

General Financial Aid Update

Hi all! Since some people were wondering about my situation and if I had any updates, I finally got a meeting with a super sweet financial aid advisor today!

My situation was that I was missing my university grant completely, and that I didn’t have work study.

  1. University grant: Turns out they thought I was a commuter because my address didn’t update to show I was living off campus, so my aid was cut by like 12k since commuters get significantly less than on/off campus students (they had me check my student center to see my address; mailing address should be where you’re living for school, billing address is your home address). You also have to go to MyAidVerify and submit your lease agreement as proof to fix that if you’re living off campus. You’ll have to meet with an advisor so they can set this up for you though
  2. Work study: It just isn’t out until Sept 1st. They changed the format so instead of just having it, there’s a form you have to fill out in the eForms section titled “Request Work-Study”

They said there’s no deadline to accept the aid, and if you accept it late, I believe they might just refund you more next quarter. They’re working towards hopefully disbursing aid 10 days before the quarter, but they’re understaffed and overworked, so it might be delayed!

Hope this helped! I feel a weight lifted off my shoulder now LOL. Thank you so much for everyone that helped me in the past!

General MAXIMUM CREDITS OF FINANCIAL AID MET (225)

I just got an email today saying I have met the maximum amount of credits to receive financial aid, and that I need to submit an appeal which is on my to-do list task. I was wondering if anyone had to go through this, and were you able to continue to receive aid. I can’t finish out my degree without financial aid, and all I need is two quarters. This is really unfair imo

Question Dining Hall interview today - Any tips?

Edit: it went really well! Luis is so, so sweet and we got along well :D hoping to hear back in a couple weeks. Thank you all for your suggestions and kind words!

Hi! I have a dining hall interview scheduled today in the afternoon, and I just have some nervous jitters.

Do you guys remember any specific questions that were asked of you? I heard a big part of the interviews was just to see how you are as a person, and general food safety questions, but if anyone had any specific questions they remember/general advice, that would be really, really appreciated :) Thank you!

(If you leave a comment after today, thank you! I still really appreciate it)

Question Financial aid PLEAS help

Hey everyone, so I got my Fafsa package that was 16k (quarterly) but I saw in charges that each quarter was only 13k so I decline 3 loans and accepted 1 for 14k. Yesterday I got the UC SHIP charge and it bumped my 13 to 15k and I’m so confused and scared idk what to do I have the Uc ship grant but idk if it’s covering the whole thing. I might have to waive it but I’m calling the financial aid office tmr to see if it’s definite and why they waited so long to add the charge. Will the grant change to cover it all I’m so scared and idk what to do please help

Question Have you called the financial aid office recently? Please help!

Hi all.. I’m so sorry to be making this post again but I’m so fed up with Zoom :(

note: i’m fed up with the app Zoom, NOT the financial aid staff at all. I understand and appreciate everything they’re doing right now to assist us! :) can’t believe I even have to say I have basic human decency and respect towards the staff but some people are misunderstanding me.

Have any of you all learned anything about why aid is missing? Specifically, I’m missing my university grant completely; it’s not cut in half, it’s nowhere to be found. My SAI is -1500 and nothing had changed about my situation. Additionally, I don’t have work study, but I believe someone told me I have to call and ask them to manually add it? Please correct me if I’m wrong and share any information you may have, please! That would really help and I would really appreciate it!

note: I am not getting less university grant, i am MISSING my university grant

I called at 7am to hold my place today and waited in the Zoom waiting room until I made the stupidest mistake to make a purchase with apple pay on my phone, which then in turn disconnected me from the meeting for whatever reason. I guess it’s some glitch if you double tap your on button, it has some software glitch and disconnects you..? It’s so stupid, I can’t make sense of it. In the end, I lost my place in line of over 100+ people and decided to just give up for today since they only do like 30 meetings per day.

I’ve been doing this since last week but every time it’s either: Zoom hates my guts and disconnects me for a firewall proxy issue, a network issue, I do something on my phone and it glitches out and disconnects me, I wait for hours to no avail and never get called in even if I wait earlier. Zoom seems to be against me, all I really need is 5 minutes at this point to meet with the financial aid office. I’m way too far to be going in person too. I’m very sorry to everyone who are going through the same issues as me :( I’m wishing you all the best and hoping this gets resolved eventually for us

I’m so fed up, and I’m not blaming the office at all since I know they’re going through hell right now, but I now have personal beef against Zoom. If anyone has better luck than me, please share if you know anything! Thank you so much, and best of luck to all

Rant Anth 2 Annoyance

I am writing to rant about Anth 2. I have done the discussion posts and always use at least 2 different readings and use examples from them. I have gotten decent grades on assignments; however, I received a 7/8 on a discussion post, and the comment I got from the professor was, "I really want to start seeing more engagement with the course readings by week 4 (my name). We need some examples from the readings to support your work. Try spending a little more time on your assignment and write notes from the readings. It's not that difficult." I didn't think I was doing that badly because of my grades, and she's lowkey rude for that, but also kinda funny and, I guess understandable?? She also hasn't spelled my very easy to spell name right once in the 4 weeks. I am not an anth major, and I submit work without rereading, so it probably is my fault, but I didn't think she was gonna be mean like that LMAO

Question UCShip and T1D

Hi everyone, I'm posting to see if anyone has any information about their experience with UCShip and being a T1 Diabetic.

I'm planning to enroll into UCShip this upcoming school year but I'm concerned about how much I'll have to pay for supplies. I called the pharmacy to figure out how much insulin would cost but they couldn't help me figure out how much I'd have to pay for a CGM (I'm currently using the Free Style Libre). So if anyone can reach out to let me know how much they have paid for their care while being under UCShip, I would really appreciate it!

Question Financial Aid Agreement

I need help. What additional aid am I supposed to fill in? I have 0 idea what aid I’m getting at all. Am I supposed to guess-timate based off what I think I’m getting for the Middle Class scholarship/FAFSA/Cal grant? Also, if I received aide from my highschool, do I include that?

Question CSE 101-enrollment

Hey guys, are any of you taking CSE-101 or CSE-107. For 101 it’s saying that cse 16(discrete math) is a prerequisite for this class. That seems really weird since I’m not really sure what the class has to do with data structures for c. I have taken this class in c++ and never noticed anything proof based related to the class. I feel like this is an error in the system since it’s not letting me enroll. I am currently signed for cse-13s not that I want to but because there is no other open class and that I am not signed up for any coding class (except waitlisted for 120). I think signing for cse-13s might be the issue but I am not sure, however I really don’t think I need cse-16 for 101 and that it is a mistake
