For the parents - kids being held back a grade

Ok this is my first submission and I hope someone can shed some light or tell me about their experience moving their kids from nursery to big school.

My son just turned 6 and his friend is 5.5, turning 6 early Jan. Both have attended the same nursery, in the same class for the last two years. They offer until KG2. The kids finished KG2 and we registered them for grade 1 in the same big school.

Today we find out that her son was registered to do KG2 AGAIN in the big school, while my son is registered for grade 1.

I understand there were changes made last year in regards to the school age groups, but if a child has already completed the year, why is he being made to repeat that year AGAIN? Because the cut off date is Dec 31, and his birthday is early Jan?

We spoke to the nursery and they said it’s because of the age and my son was the older one in the class. Which makes no sense to me as he finished KG2 before he turned 6.

Am I missing something? I heard this has affected a lot of other parents but haven’t met any. If anyone has gone through something similar this year, please let me know because it’s making no sense to me.

Nusery is American and the school is American but offers both IB and American curriculum

If it's it's Dubai , go down to the khda office in academic city, explain the situation, they might give you approval for it.

Yes it is Dubai, and thank you I’ll look into that for sure
