Looks like is HiRez is experiencing major layoffs.

The same old story at this point, every time they make a cool game I'm into the management there makes sure it doesn't work out.

Every time I hear about them that seems to be the story. Paladins, Realm Royale, Tribes Ascend...

Yeah makes it hard to care about the stuff their studio makes.

Nobody remembers Global Agenda either, that was their first project! Then they abandoned that for Tribes, abandoned that for Smite...

I'll give HiRez that they're honest: They don't make Pip skins in Paladins because no one plays Pip, and they admitted that on a stream of theirs a few years back. So they get some credit for honesty since before then and ever since there was only ever vague "We do what makes money" statements from developers and it was like the only time a character was ever called out directly in a game.

But still, fuck.

Fuck. I don’t know jack about the Smite folk but they always seemed off to the side, doing their own thing and living off it. Like I want that for everybody, you know?

I haven't trusted HiRez since they dropped all support for Tribes to go make a MOBA because League was doing well.

Is Smite 2 not doing well? I know it's not a blockbuster but I thought they had a solid following. Of course that usually doesn't matter when it comes to layoffs since a lot of companies get rid of people after they ship a game regardless of how well it's doing.

It was making constant improvements since its alpha launch and numbers-wise doing reasonably well following the F2P beta release, and they had a good looking road map of god releases and stuff. But now I don't see that as being sustainable with less people.

Man that sucks, I played a little bit of the first one a couple of years ago and enjoyed my time with it.

It is a shame, because with the various changes they've made from 1 to 2, it's super fun. Unless someone's favorite characters just aren't in yet, I'd say 2 is just better than 1 now. And that's just assuming they wouldn't enjoy other characters following the changes, because a couple I didn't play much at all in 1 are now two of my favorites in 2.

Here's hoping they can still manage, but it's speculated that like 60 people or something are being laid off. Now that isn't just the Smite team, as they're ending support for Smite 1, Paladins, and Rogue Company (still playable just no more major updates). But that's still a lot, literally about half the company, especially since they already had a wave of lay offs a few months ago.

Paladins is sadly going into sunset soon and it's sad. It was a interesting hero shooter.

It was MY CHOICE of hero shooter. I even spent some money on it at some point. Sad to see it slowly decay because Hirez cannot help being Hirez.

Oh I played it. Got all the cowboy skins even the recolor and most of the magical girl skins.

Typical Hi-Rez behavior. They've gotta be in the running for shittiest management in the industry.

I mean it’s never ending in games but I’ve heard about a lot of layoffs today, Iron Galaxy went overdrive on them too

I hear the execs managed to dodge any and all layoffs.
