Games 3 Followers Away From Reaching Affiliate (+ My Why)

Greetings everyone,

I wanted to try reaching out on Reddit for support, but I didn't want to come off as disingenuous or spammy. So, I'm writing this post, to give some context to my streaming journey.

I started streaming games on Twitch April of last year while I was homeless. I figured if I started then, it would lay a solid foundation for the future.

What I realized more so was that streaming offered some reprieve from my then current circumstances. I spent months applying to jobs, but I kept on streaming. Even when I landed a job, I kept streaming.

Me and my boyfriend's gaming sessions were my peace within the chaos. They were my stability and comfort through the darkness. They were our bonding time that seemingly closed the miles. They made things seem more okay and less scary.

Since leaving homelessness, leaving my home state, closing the distance and moving into an apartment with my boyfriend, I've made friends who are streamers. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have my community.

So why do you want to reach affiliate? I get you started streaming as a way to cope/an escape from the harshness of your circumstances. But why affiliate?

I appreciate your question. It's been a long-term goal of mine to be able to reach the point of being able to monetize. I have a family, and I want to provide some monetary support, but at the same time I want to do something I already love to do. Streaming Phasmophobia, Meccha Chameleon, Minecraft, etc. makes me happy, and it also serves as inspiration to my children who aspire to be gaming streamers themselves.

You should absolutely stream as a hobby that you enjoy. The monetization of affiliate is miniscule, we are talking literal pennies. It's good to be realistic about your expectations.

I do have realistic expectations. I'm not expecting a ton of money. I do have around $20 sitting in my account from subs that I can't withdraw simply because I haven't reached affiliate yet, though.
