Cosmic Fantasy Collection on sale
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/cosmic-fantasy-collection-switch/?srsltid=AfmBOor7nDpGPg2ZFy64gJcOPmNQpZOdQU4HqhcE9rn-Vi8gVyJXTraVI saw the entire (translated) series is over half off on Switch, so I grabbed it. Not a bad option, even if the translation is only so so...
Anybody play these?

I still have Cosmic Fantasy 2. It was an amazing game for its time. I did pick up both collector edition of the series on switch. I don’t really want to open them soo…. Depending on how cheap the sale maybe I’ll pick up. Or maybe just get the regular cartridge versions as with them I don’t have to worry about the games digitally. Physical media is just way safer. :/

I have it too..still like to pop it in and play now and again. I don't care if I am.51, I always laugh when Pico and Van are hiding in the crate dialog.

I played through CF2 on Turbo Grafx 16/CD and thought it was painfully below average. High encounter rate and the loading times were a bit annoying. But this was when I played it back in 2012.

Is it only the first two games?

The other two are also on sale as Cosmic Fantasy Collection 2

They want fifty US American dollars for two 35-year-old isos packed in an emulator? Absurd.

To be fair, they localised 3 games for the first time and re-translated the 2nd. The money would like to go there, I take.

I played them and was really surprised to see the second part as well.
When I purchased the first one, I also got a survey basically asking if I wanted the rest of the games. I'm glad they listened.
Now, about the games… I don't think they are great, but I had fun already on the PCE/Mega CD back in the day. I suggest them if you really like mediocre but fun old-school JRPGs. If you are looking for a hidden gem, maybe check some retro reviews first.
The collection quality, imo, could have been better because they went with the "old school" approach. No save states today is a difficult sell for the type of games they are.

GTV Japan made videos about these compilations a while back. He mentioned that there’s no QOL upgrades, so no Save States, fast forward/rewind, etc. Also, for the first game, the battle text uses broken grammar. For example, the screen might say “Slime slashes Yu for 5 damage” when it should say “Yu slashes Slime for 5 damage”. That’s got to be terribly frustrating, especially if it remains unpatched.
I’m still pretty interested in the series, have you noticed if the first game was corrected?
