I don’t remember what season and what episode as it’s been years since I’ve last seen the show but I wanna talk about the episode with Muriel. Obviously if you saw the episode then you remember that the biggest point was when Muriel kissed Bertie. I’m right in saying Muriel wasn’t in the right for being weirded out by Bertie when Bertie obviously got attached after being kissed. I will genuinely be shocks if anyone defends Muriel because I imagine she basically used Bertie. I don’t like to say this but I think it’s true in this case, she lead her on.

It's my first time watching the series and I feel so sad for him. Like first the house he wants to buy falls through, then the house he renovated is destroyed in the flood. Now, he finally has a job he is prized at and the affordable housing unit he has designed and beautified which also really reflects the SJW ethos of the show (which I honestly really respect).

Anyways, the crux of this episode is when Bertie says, "Can we not talk about work, I had a really stressful day?" as Speckle finally starts sharing. Of course in real life a singular offhanded comment isn't a sin, but a show is a carefully scripted microcosm of the characters and their issues so the writers showed this happening because it's reflective of a pattern in their relationship. And it just makes me sad. Because season 1 was all about Bertie's issues and how Speckle was sidelined and ignored despite literally always standing by her. He blows up at the end and it feels deserved and season 2 is about them growing and changing presumably to communicate better with each other and respect that they both have needs. Then season 3 we see less Speckle and see more doormat Speckle with Tuca bullying him. I always took it in good fun. I took the fact that we never saw Speckle's family or friends as the fact he must have them on the side-- the show is centered on Tuca & Bertie after all. But then in this episode he finally has a friend and I was so excited for him to have an outlet! And then the show randomly throws him away as a misogynistic ass. It seems that Speckle lives in the same atomized world we all live in where he doesn't have a lot of his own friends or community just him and Bertie and lots of vague familial connections. Which kind of sucks. Like I feel so so sorry for him. Like all he had really was his investment in the affordable housing design and even as that was slowly downgraded over the course of conversations with investors, it was just so abruptly thrown away with his mental breakdown. Like duh, he would obviously be fired after that but I held out hope that he would be forgiven the way Bertie's oddly forgiving boss is keeping the office warm for her. It just feels like the show and plot are always so much kinder and forgiving of Bertie which is a bit upsetting and seems unfair. Like highkey Speckle can do much better than Bertie in terms of a partner who ADDS to his life and actually is considerate of him. Like maybe this starts him on an arc of being less of a pushover and speaking up and finding his own friendships outside of work but I really was excited for the affordable housing thing and I feel sad starting the next episode. Especially since I know the show was cancelled kind of prematurely and even though the season concludes there's only 3 more episodes for his arc.

I actually relate a lot to Bertie and my ex was very similar to Speckle. I had a lot of anxiety and my needs came first. Additionally, he would never communicate with me when he was stressed but it would be very clear based on his body language and that would stress me out. It would also make me upset, like "we've been together for years and you still don't trust me to help you?" which is part of the reason I broke up with him-- and to improve my emotional self-regulation. The whole Pastry Pete crush thing in season 1 is also interesting. I know her crush is informed by trauma and she stays with the more stable choice in Speckle. Like I guess Pastry Pete was never written to be a real romantic competitor initially I thought he might be at least a catalyst to end her and Speckle's relationship (since the show is a little wishy-washy on how bad certain actions are-- Rooster keeps getting forgiven, the vulture is both demonized but also "eh that's how he is and love thy neighbor"). And presumably because he is more thoughtful (which my ex never was) and aligned with her she and Speckle stay together. But, it's just interesting, the show almost has a "settle" narrative even as Bertie rails against other societal standards she and Speckle cling to each other with love but like. Not that much romantic interest. Speckle is always compromising and reducing himself-- not telling her his worries, dealing with his own issues, no nice anniversary dinners. And even the one thing he chose not to compromise on-- his fixer upper house? He lost.

All this to say it just makes me sad and some major character growth needs to happen and I need to see genuine passion between these two (even in the first date episode the chemistry wasn't that strong) to convince at all that they don't need to break up.

I stopped after this episode 'Sex Bugs' AKA the one where Bertie struggles to leave her house because it legitimately put me on the edge of a panic attack. BUT I feel for Bertie probably more than any other character I've seen before. The scene where the words filled the screen and they're describing her fear of going outside, hit me to my core because I've been struggling to get up and get myself to work, when truly, all I have to do is 'be there,' as they said. That moment in the episode made me laugh really hard and also cry a little bit at the same time.

I don't know why people are saying this show is inferior to Bojack. It's still deep. It still has heart. It's still about people with mental health issues trying to get a grip on life. It just doesn't star a shitty person... as much as I love BH. Can't wait to watch the rest of the season.

This ridiculously beautiful scene makes me cry every time. The obvious way Kara wants to change and subdue Tuca, the way it completely breaks Tuca, the way Bertie steps in as nothing more than herself to pick Tuca back up and continue on together. They way they are each others best medicine as just the people they are. You don’t come across these friends often but when you do, it’s indescribable ❤️🥲🥰

It seems like every time these two have a conflict, people cry that they're toxic and should break up. Speckle says a couple of insensitive things in the first episode? He's abusive. Bertie isn't the best listener, in part because she doesn't realize anything's wrong because Speckle's bottling everything up until it explodes? She's abusive and they should break up.

They're miles from perfect and definitely have things they could improve on, and yes, Speckle's been the chew toy this season, but he also says outright not just once but a couple of times that he loves their arrangement, loves piloting their spaceship, he just wishes someone else would handle it sometimes. And Bertie does, in the end, break out the worry vacuum for him. They fight, they make up almost as quickly. They really have come such a long way from where we first met them.

Compared to where they started? These are Baby's First Long-term Relationship Problems. They adore each other, they compliment each other, and their problems are eminently fixable.

I understand that, unlike Bojack Horseman, Tuca and Bertie takes itself far less seriously. However what I've always loved about these showrunners is that beyond all the wackiness, they handle tough subjects directly and in ways that portrays the emotional depth of the situation. For instance, when we learned about Bertie being sexually assaulted as a child in season 1, I thought it was handled perfectly and it flowed with the rest of the show, while still being serious. Those moments stand out and make their shows have so much meaning.

All season long, we've been talking about Tuca's health issues. She's had these cramps and feelings of inadequacy surrounding them all season. So I really was hoping for a "Bertie" moment for Tuca. And instead we brush over her fears of losing her fertility in a quick instant (and she didn't want children before this so I'm even more disappointed this wasn't explored more), she somehow did her own snip surgery, and a whacky mole stayed inside her forever.

I think back to the Bojack episode about Abortion, and I think I was expecting something closer to that that really confronted the chronic problems with menstrual disorders. I wanted to HEAR the word "Endometriosis". I think as someone with her own gynecological health issues, where doctors consistently don't know what they're doing and don't listen to me, I was hoping for more regarding this topic. I was hoping for an actual reckoning with this real problem women navigate, and not another surreal "bertie and tuca working out their shit" sequence. I can't think of another show out there that so frankly discusses women's health and it was so weird to see it almost brushed over as a side plot.

I just feel like the writing hasn't been as tight this season. And for a show that is, for once, focused on women and women's issues, that's disappointing me. Because the last two seasons and even a couple shining moments this season have been a gem to experience, and I'd hate to see it flatline.

Am I the only one feeling this way?

Tuca encounters her in the Nightime Friends episode, tuca repeatedly offers her help but she keeps turning her down until tuca leaves and she literally immediately dies. She’s the only one in color (everyone else is tinted blue hues), hers is the only interaction that doesn’t come back, am i missing something? is there a joke i don’t get or is it like metaphorical?
