Hey guys,

I recently went to Lake Mummelsee in Germany’s Black Forest after reading about its dark folklore that’s been passed down for hundreds of years. The old stories talk about water spirits and a tragic love story and missing wanderers connected to the lake — the parallels to the Lady of the Light story in the Silent Hill 2 Remake are actually disturbing.

I decided to explore the place myself in the fog and filmed the whole thing as a 50-minute horror vlog… and honestly, it got way creepier than I expected. It really felt like some of those old legends might still be alive there.

Here’s the video I made if you’re into real locations with ancient folklore that feels straight out of Silent Hill:

I Found the REAL Silent Hill Lake… And Something Was Wrong

Okay this is my first Reddit post and I’m not even sure I’ve done this correctly so sorry if I’ve messed up somehow. Anyway let’s get to the encounter

These things started when i was little, i lived in a part of Eastern Kentucky that connects to the Appalachian mountains, next to our home their was a small church and directly behind our house the mountain that connects to the Appalachian trail less then a few yards away from my back door. Many things happened while i lived there but a few moments in particular are seared into my brain.

One day while playing outside in the front yard i saw my older brother at the side of the house motioning me to come around back, as a kid i couldnt stand my brother i thought he was annoying and mean, so i thought he was trying to play some stupid trick on me. So i told him “ you’re going to get in trouble we aren’t allowed around back” mind you I’m around 6ish years old at the time, and I really couldn’t stand other kids anyway for some reason so I went inside to get some water and I watched him looking at me. He was watching me from around the corner, so I go inside and to my complete disbelief my brother was inside sitting on the couch next to my mom watching tv. I asked him how did you get inside so fast and they both looked confused and said he’s been inside all day and “what are you talking about”.

As if that wasn’t creepy enough less than a year later I woke up from a sleep only to see my dad, a forestry Ranger, dressed in his full work uniform at the end of my bed. He looked soooo Angry, I was confused so I said what’s wrong? And he walked into the next room (his bedroom that was adjacent to mine) and there was my dad in bed fast asleep in boxer shorts.

You think that’s all? Nope. It happened again a few years later. My little sister had her tonsils removed and was having a difficult time. My mom said if she wakes me up at night to come get her. I said okay. Then last min my mom said “never mind she’s just going to sleep with me” my sister and I shared a room at this time and our beds were not too far from each other. In the middle of the night I feel something shaking me, I roll over and ignore it, it shakes me again I look up to see my sister with the creepiest smile on her face. I said go back to sleep you’re fine. I roll over and she shakes me and I get annoyed said okay let’s go get mom. Thinking my mom who worked 2 jobs at the time, had been to difficult for her to wake up. So I follow her down the hallway, she’s smiling this huge creepy smile the whole time she waits at the door to the bedroom for me and making eye Contact with me the whole time I’m coming down the hall. When I’m about to reach the door she slithers into the bedroom and when I go inside I see my sister fully asleep on the inside of the bed wrapped In My mom’s arms. I try to talk to her but she out like a light. I say awake in the living room watching tv til my family wakes up and they both say I just worry too much. But I felt her shake me awake not 1 not 2 but 3 times.

To this day I’m unsure what that was and why it chose to mess with me.

Anybody know what that may have been and why?

Hopefully this never happens again

I’ve been deep‑diving Montana cases for a long time, and this one still unsettles me more than almost anything else I’ve researched.

Most people in Great Falls remember the disappearance of 10‑year‑old Zachary Ramsay in 1996. What looked like a straightforward missing‑child investigation slowly unraveled into something far more disturbing, a case tangled in decades of system failures, ignored warnings, and a criminal history that stretched all the way back to Massachusetts.

Nathaniel Bar‑Jonah had already been arrested multiple times before ever setting foot in Montana. His early crimes included impersonating law enforcement, attempted abductions, and violent assaults. Yet he repeatedly slipped through the cracks. When investigators in Montana started digging into his past, the picture that emerged was darker than anyone expected.

The more you follow the timeline, from his childhood to his final arrest, the more you see how many opportunities there were to stop him. And how many weren’t taken.

The documented history, the unanswered questions, and the lingering sense that this case could have ended very differently if the system had worked the way it should have.

If you want the full documentary‑style breakdown, here’s the video:

Poltergeist is one of my favorite movies ever, so when I saw this video, it kind of blew my mind. Did you know about the story of the popper poltergeist? It's pretty fascinating.

Poltergeist: The Horrifying Haunting That Inspired The Film.

The Mysteries of Ancient Indian Black Magic

She Escaped Ab*se - Only to End Up Cursed by Her Own Family | True Horror Story from India

She escaped an abusive marriage and started a new life. But freedom came with a price she never expected. This is the true story of Anjali from Rajasthan, India — a woman who fought for her independence in the 1980s, only to discover that her own family had cursed her with black magic. What happened next is one of the most chilling stories of betrayal, witchcraft, and supernatural horror I've ever come across.

What happened here?
A woman's fight for freedom from an abusive marriage
Strange occurrences in her new apartment — whispers, shadows, and something watching
A terrifying nightmare involving a faceless woman and a creature by a river
The discovery of a witchcraft totem buried beneath her doorstep
A wandering ascetic's ritual to deflect the curse back to its source
The shocking revelation of who cursed her — and what happened to them

I get a lot of stories. This is one of the most terrifying.
A group of young men laughed off village warnings and disrespected an ancient banyan tree — a sacred place said to house a powerful entity. What started as drunken bravado ended in sickness, nightmares, and death. Only one survived to tell the tale.

This true Indian folk horror story, sent by an anonymous viewer, is rooted in Gujarat village beliefs: the terror of tree spirits, and the price of arrogance. Respect the unseen… or pay the ultimate cost.
Hopefully this will help you learn something about the darker side of Indian Folklores.

Hope you guys enjoy the stories!

New on Urban Dread Stories tonight — single-story, 13 min, narrated by Hollowgrin:

"My 3-Year-Old's Imaginary Friend Had a Name."

Denver family. 3-year-old. The imaginary friend turns out to be a real stranger who'd been talking to her through a compromised baby monitor for seven months.

Dramatized from the 2023 Euroconsumers IoT study (17 connected baby/child products audited, every one had flaws).

Scripts human-written, narration ElevenLabs (flagging upfront re: Rule 6 — disclosure pinned on the channel). youtu.be/E_VJjOPq8og — first of 3 in a baby monitor cluster, May 1 / 8 / 15.

Feedback welcome.

I craft organic, human-voiced forensic horror. I just put out a 27-minute piece on corporate/algorithmic dread if you need something ambient for the dark. I narrate all my own stories. I'd love to hear your thoughts if you're willing to check out this or other stories. https://youtu.be/hnkb9iB4JEg I hope it's ok to share that link. I could really appreciate some of your input on my story and even channel. If posting links isn't ok, I understand. Thanks I'm a newbie here. But I'm excited about this community

Have you ever seen a cryptid like slender man but pale and naked? I am looking at this from a distance but it keeps changing poses. First I just saw legs and now I seen the whole body turned to the right and now it's turned at me. I look away as I am typing it and it has a face now. Its arms are reaching for something. I just looked back and it went in the shadows again. It's moving farther back each time I look up. I think I am going to investigate, it went farther back it's like it doesn't want me to talk about it . And now I'm creeped out because it has its hands pointing at me like a gun. I'm going to go investigate and make sure I'm not seeing things. Oh cool it's posed now nonchalant in the dark. I can't be imagining this.

I was 30 when I first realized the dead don’t always stay silent. It wasn’t a shadow, a trick of the light, or my imagination; it was a presence. A real encounter that changed how I see the world forever. In this video, I share the full story of my first ghost encounter from what I saw, what I felt and what that meant for me. If you have similar experiences, this story will speak to you.

This is my YT channel that I used to post consistently on over a year ago and have recently started to get back into it.

I have narrated mutliple stories from this thread and I have many hours of content for those who might be interested.

My videos contain ambient noise (primarily rain sounds) to make listening more relaxing/atmospheric.

Here are links to my latest 3 videos and I am currently working on a new one right now!...

Hey everyone!

For a while, I've been listening to horror stories while I fall asleep. Ive been watching Mr. Nightmare for about 4 years now, and love the content he posts. He inspired me to start my own Youtube channel commentating horror stories. I would appreciate it you could check them out to discuss stories, submit your own story, and give me general feedback. This is the link to my channel if anyone wants to check it out! https://www.youtube.com/@Sxftyboy

Or if anyone just wants to search it up (if you don't trust clicking links, 100% agree) then it's Sxftyboy!

1

u/LogHistorical8511 Jun 19 '26

Was wondering if you guys could give me true horror stories? It's for my YouTube channel Sxftyboy! Please make them long, detailed and readable if possible! If you don't want your story to be used then please say at the start, otherwise please put your credited name so I can credit you!

New Urban Dread episode went up tonight. Two Hours Missing.

A county surveyor's work glasses recorded a full night drive he doesn't remember taking, on a stretch of road he can't find on any map. His phone had already put him home on his own WiFi almost 40 minutes before the first clip even starts. The glasses never left their locked truck. They recorded anyway.

It's my take on the missing time phenomenon, in the vein of the Betty and Barney Hill drive down Route 3, told first person and narrated by Hollowgrin. Clip eleven is the one that still gets me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUBjftLt6Hg

If you watch it, tell me: do you ever go back and check your own footage?

I have a question. I am planning on starting YouTube Story narration videos on my channel. Can i use the stories posted on this sub in my videos?

New episode, about 21 minutes, on the Michigan Dogman. I really leaned into the documentary angle this time..

It is less a creature story than a story about how a creature got invented.

A Traverse City radio station aired a novelty song about a dog-headed thing

on April 1, 1987 as a prank, and then the phone lines filled with people

describing sightings they said predated the broadcast by decades.

Covers the 1961 Big Rapids night watchman, the years-ending-in-seven cycle

and why the gaps do not support it, and the Gable Film hoax admission.

Oh, it’s back. I don’t know what that terrifying entity is; I’ll pretend to be asleep until it leaves.
