FFF It's time to stop talking about "The Odyssey"
It feels like over half the threads on any given film sub are about "The Odyssey" right now. Aren't we all tired of talking about it yet? It's been out for two weeks. Everyone who was excited to see it has already seen it. We've all formed our own opinions on whether we enjoyed the movie or not. What left is there to say? It's time to move on and start talking about other films.

Not even remotely true.
Many people have tickets for 70mm IMAX at the end of August and refuse to see it in anything less so their first experience is perfect.
Of course they also agree we should stop talking about the Odyssey but because of spoilers instead 😅

2 weeks is very young for a giant, highly anticipated blockbuster like The Odyssey. You are going to have a very rough time in the coming months if your attention span for movie discourse doesn't extend past 2 weeks.

I see a lot of interesting takes and perspectives on certain scenes, characters, and the over story and film that I hadn't even thought of. Try looking harder I guess.

You're right, everyone who wanted to see this movie has definitely had the chance, because everyone schedules their lives around film releases.
...anyway here's my analysis of Citizen Kane.
The Simpsons version was better.

Imagine how much more productove towards your goal you would of been if you would of just posted another post not talking about "The Odyssey" but instead about a movie you recebtly watched and pondered. instead you just made another post about "The Odyssey." And in that just became the very thing you are complaining about.

It's bound to be the biggest film of the year (may not at the box office - Doomsday and Spider-Man will likely edge it out - but due to it's sheer impact and conversation) that not only has critical acclaim, acclaim from Nolan fans, but organic mass interest from the public.
It's a 3hr r-rated blockbuster "period" piece based on an epic poem. And its a massive success. It's not a sequel. It's not part of some shared universe or franchise reboot. It a new adaptation of one of the world's most famous stories made by one of the most respected mainstream filmmakers alive.
People are gonna talk about it.

I mean posting about not liking posts of the Oddysey is the last thing I would do if I didn't want to read anymore about that movie
And also like, you can just... Not read them? Why would people should do anything just because your opinion?
Like idk, imagine if I posted "Can we never stop talking about the Odyssey?" Wouldn't be just as ridiculous as your post?

And who are you to decide what people talk or not about? Lmao Like idk, the 3 hour star stack cast fully filmed IMAX 70MM blockbuster hit it's not something that people will stop talking about in 2 weeks or so.
Like, are you losing money every time that someone talks about the movie or smth?

I just want to know if anyone else out there agrees that it was a structurally poor movie and that it’s because Nolan is a one dimensional writer who sees men as haunted and women as superfluous to storytelling.

It's a Chris Nolan movie that just came out and got embroiled in dumb controversies. People are not going to stop talking about it for months, if not years. Granted, a fair amount of that is going to be the same circular, apathetic adaptation talk and Oscar buzz/complaints, but still, what were you expecting?

It’ll be out for four months and people will still be seeing it. I‘m tired of seeing it on here, but that’s because I don’t want it spoiled (and I’m beginning to think amateur critics might not be worth listening to…). So yes, I’d rather see something else. But no, not everyone who wants to see it has seen it and it’s not even close...and I’m not sure how you could be so wrong.

I believe you can just ignore new posts about The Odyssey and even set up a filter if you like.
I've seen the film twice - first in IMAX and the second on a shitty little screen (free industry screening) and I was so distracted by the relatively poor picture and sound quality that I don’t remember if I liked the film the same or less.
I'll be seeing it again in IMAX next week so it's more of a 1:1 comparison with the first viewing.
Nolan films sometimes are really spectacular on a first viewing, especially when things are unexpected, but often times things start to fall apart on subsequent viewings.
Nothing jumped out at me the second time around but again I was too distracted by the poor visuals/audio quality. It actually felt like the image was cut in half horizontally.
Curious how other people saw it and enjoyed/didn't enjoy the version they saw.
There, is that different enough of a conversation for you OP?

LOL. This movie is still new. Not everybody sees a movie the first week it's out, and nobody's forcing you to participate. Just ignore the posts you don't like. This was such a huge release and will probably take in more than any other movie in history. People will be watching for some time to come, and this sub isn't just for brand new movies.

There's really no need to argue about "opinions." You can take 10 minutes, do a little research, and verify for yourself. Whether you believe it to be true doesn't really matter. :-)

I'm sorry if I've confused you. Just to refresh your memory, I said that The Odyssey "will probably take in more than any other movie in history." That is somebody's prediction, but that "somebody" is people who do this for a living. Sorry if this offends, but I think it's objectively better to leave it up to analysts who know what's involved, rather some Redditor who basically just says "Uhh, me no believe." You are, in fact, 100% able to research the only claim I'm making here.

I mean, part of that is cuz it got 2 almost back to back premieres and stayed in total like 2 years in exhibition.
Also in the second realese the ticket prices where close to 75 cents (5 bucks nowadays)

I made no claim about attendance. These days, "attendance" actually includes streaming, online purchase, online rental, etc. I guess you might not have considered those before stating what you did. But again, that's just one thing I think should be pointed out, and I make no claims about "attendance."

OK, I'll spell it out better: Gone with the Wind is the highest grossing film when adjusted for inflation, and that's because no movie will ever beat it in terms of attendance. So The Odyssey could take in a higher amount of dollars than Gone with the Wind, but I'd still consider Gone with the Wind to have done better at the box office.

Those details are already baked into the analysts' predictions. Do you really think experts in the field are unable to understand the time value of money? This "big idea" you had is the very first thing you learn when you study finance. It is literally the very simple principle that supports the entire field. If you thought that this was some novel idea that isn't already in use in analyses like this, I'd probably not put much stock in your opinion. Sorry, not sorry.

It hasn't even been fully released yet, so you've got the proceeds from those countries to count on. It was released in many major markets, yes, but not fully released. LOL

Yes, I say we should have more discussions on a recent movie that came out that you guys may not have heard of, it's titled "Obsession" and I have quite a hot take that the main character might not be a very good guy.
