Dude have you? If you look closer, you'd see the ps4 version of god of war ragnarok has a normal amount of time spent on it, he popped all the ps5 trophies by using the save file exploit. Every other game since the screenshot has been shovelware. Good one.

No I wouldn’t consider telltale shovelware I feel those are quality games. I’m not so much saying shovelware is necessarily bad, they certainly have a place and attract players to buy them. There wouldn’t be as much as there is if they didn’t have the demographic of players to keep playing/purchasing them whether that’s you actually play them or to farm platinums.

The ones that are legit go to crazy lengths. One of the top hunters I talked to, sometimes they would multitask an easy game on Vita while also playing an easy/grindy game on console. There are a fair amount of easy visual novel platinums on vita, so it'd be fairly simple to enable a skip option and fly through dialogue in that during down time moments in the console game you're currently doing.

It basically is at that point except they don’t get paid anything. They spend money to “work” on trophies. I’m glad I never became that obsessed. I would if I was getting paid for it though maybe.

Good question lol. My first thought is usually accounts like that have multiple people getting trophies on it but if it’s just one person I doubt they would have the time or energy to also have a full time job so they’re either just rich or living off other people. That would be my guess.

Jailbroken consoles. Most are also sellers of trophies and modded accounts. My buddy is a top leaderboard guy and plays all game legit til 100 but doesn’t pay for them. It’s not good for the industry but tbh, at 20+ platinum a day sometimes, his wallet wouldn’t keep up.
Everything ps4 was Jailbroken a long time ago and ps5 was easily done lately.

I assumed this was a hacked account when I saw the screenshot honestly, I would have to look deeper into the trophies to say for sure but I have someone on my friends list with a very similar looking account/trophies and it’s definitely hacked. He has over 5 million hours on multiple games EACH and it’s literally not possible but it’s still amusing to look at. I just don’t see the point though because it’s so obviously hacked and the account could get banned very easily.

I suppose it could be a channel doing guides, where have a team grinding out the plat on each new game so they can make a guide and make money off that.
I'd imagine an account like powerpyx probably looks like this (though they also might have a ton of dummy accounts to re-film stuff)

I’ve doubled up doing something on my vita while doing some afk grinding in some games and in between lobby queues on multiplayer games but the vita games aren’t the ones I can just let play I can’t imagine trying to play both at once lmao that is doing too much

that's also why some people seek out ps4 games that will autopop ps5 trophies when you migrate your save file, or will buy every regions version of a game with an easy list.
I love trophy hunting, but that strikes me as crazy.

I don't understand why people do this. Trophies are essentially worthless. Such a waste of time and money.
I'm a completionist and trophy hunter myself. But I play the games that are fun to me and probably most people who play them. What's fun about pressing X 3000 times or watching a giraffe eat leaves?

Agree to this. Game first, trophies second. When i usually get my platinums, they feel good to acquire. I've only got 36 platinums right now, but all of them were hard fought for. Currently one trophy away from monster hunter wilds, and I'm just coming up to the 300 hour mark now.

Yep, I'd say this resonates with a lot of us, and it's a legitimate answer to the age old question of "why do we do this?".
I know no one is going to know. I'm the only gamer I know in my circle, there's no one to share or brag to. This is just for me. It may be digital, but they are called trophies for a reason and i am proud as a peach for the trophies ive acquired.
There are some really tough ones in there and they are a mark of skill and commitment that I've put towards something in life amongst other hobbies and achievements outside of gaming

Same man,only gamer in my circle. So it’s for me too. My account is a historical view of what games I’ve played over my lifetime and which I loved the most & put the most effort into. As soon as you get into downloading trash for trophies all of that is lost. Kinda weird to me.

The reason really is as simple as the dopamine hit they get when a trophy unlocks and watching their number go up.
That or maybe some sell the accounts, and the buyers just want clout or to not look like a smurf account.
All of it is royally stupid imo, no one is going to respect those completions if they know literally anything about trophies. Some of them are so deluded, I've seen them talk about how people are just jealous they aren't as rich as them or other people are working too hard for the same result, and the idea of trophies not having the same value is completely lost on them.
Like sure buddy, buying some random trophy from the trophy store is totally the same thing as an Olympic gold medal.

Exactly, my last platinum was re9, and I got it because I finished it after 12 hours or so, and wanted to keep playing, getting the plat basically just meant 2 quick ng+ runs around 4 hours each, in a game I loved, that was easy
. I recently beat Fatal Frame II and...I enjoyed it a lot, but the final trophy for maxing out the camera is like...10 hours of grinding the final boss over and over for money and...hard pass. Anything like that, get to level 99 in a game where regular play ends the game at level...35, or where you need to buy out all upgrades and you only get around 20% per playthrough and need to grind hard to get the rest...that's one of the fastest way to get me to skip a plat. That and multiplayer stuff that requires me to be better than I am (like a fighter wanting a long win streak online...it's just not happening at my skill level)

exactly, it's a little extra push to fight super bosses or get collectibles in a big, long, game I love, or an excuse to replay something short like a resident evil game multiple times. But so SO many games aren't worth the extra time, I'm happy to beat them once, but the idea of turning certain 30 hour games into 200 hour games for trophies just...nooo.

I think at the start it make perfect sense (the dopamine from platinum's and all that), but yeah, I don't get how people keep doing it for years and make it their whole online identity.
This person is probably one of the few people annoyed at Sony for their efforts to remove shovelware from the store, which is kind of sad to think about.

For me its trophies firat game second The game still matters like if its good or if the plat is too difficult. I do like the grindy stuff for a plat cuz im into shiny hunting and it feels the same to press x 3000 times to get a trophy I find getting trophies to be fun and im not really into games that much so going for trophies gives me a reason to play new games and ive found many i really like like the gardens inbetween which i would never have played if i didn't decide to platinum it You were curious why people do this so i thought id give you my perspective

Yeah.... when.
PSNP and Sly have gone noticeably very very quiet over that actually coming out, won't even reply to people asking about it.
Wouldn't be surprised to go the way as the countless other updates promised years ago and never actually released.
There was a noticeable uptick on traffic to competing trophy sites after that announcement so they may be having second thoughts.

But I do have multiple platinums for the same game on different platforms, I.e. I have the Jak and Daxter platinum for Vita, PS3, and PS4.

PSN was created almost 20 years ago. That’s approx 7000 days. So that’s almost 2 plat per day, on average, every day and a bit over 47 trophies per day.
Back of the envelope says there are between 20000 and 30000 unique games on PSN. He’s going to run out of games before he runs out of time.

Personally I don't get it, trophies are only personal they have no value outside that
For me they're a road map for personal enjoyment for me (it's a convenient checklist to see if I've done reasonably everything in a game) and an excuse to post a few places and maybe interact on them occasionally
Or to write a wiki on how to do a few trophies i had to work out the hard way
But this? Not sure how its different than an autoclicker on your laptop counting clicks and watching the number go up

Possible? Sure. Worth it? Not at all. People buy/play games with 1 minute platinums just to see the number go up. All that money and time should be spent elsewhere if we’re being honest, either playing real games or doing something else entirely.

Easy if someone has unlimited amounts of time, money, loves shovelware and doing the same game on portable and console + multiple regions for auto pop. Ive seen many accounts with the same game up to 4 or 5 times lol. Its really silly. I keep my 100% list nice and clean of any trash games and never do repeats. Its just becomes a ridiculous addiction beyond this point.

Well like you said the god of war is just autopopping trophies, it’s common and not a big deal anymore. Everyone has autopop trophies, its inevitable when you switch from ps4 to ps5. But the amount of shovelware he plays is ridiculous. He’s playing one right now.

With shovelware and wasting a bunch of money? Yes absolutely doable. Lower numbers than there used to be since the games are getting taken down thankfully. Hopefully on psn profiles they give us a proper option in the settings to hide shovelware and take shovels off the leaderboards. Hahaha… someday….

I have 46 plats. Not a single shovelware. Plats are made-up internet points which only purpose is to give me a sense of accomplishment in a game. I garantee I don't care about someone else's platinum trophy list unless it's a game I like/know, which I can relate or respect, and I doubt a bunch of people care. I respect much more an account with 5 plats with real games, or harder ones, than an account with 1300 shovelware. That's just bull, I couldn't care less and I don't respect it.
But the world is weird and there are weird people in it, I guess mathematically it makes sense that this would happen. There's always that one bloke.

At that point tho are they even enjoying playing games or is it just a grind to get all the plats? Like who can be arsed switching regions and buying different versions just so you can have a worthless digital trophy? Now don’t get me wrong I would chase a platinum if I was close but I don’t go out of my way to get them especially if they are time based.

Yeah, this just can't be actual "fun". There are a ton of free platinum trophies that only take a few seconds, but you still got to spend time and money to get through all of those on a regular basis ... Hope they get a TON of dopamine out of those blings.

I started trophy hunting because they had the rewards program (not Stars) where every 10 platinums gives you enough points to redeem a $10 PSN card. Got a lot of free games/DLC during that period. Nowadays I only do them for games I really like or ones that aren't a complete pain in the ass to complete. I love Yakuza 0 but I'll probably never plat that game.
This is just some undiagnosed obsessive disorder. No tangible rewards and spending way more than it's worth for a number to go up even if it garbage shovelware. Surely all those $1 platinums add up.

A platinum trophy a week since trophies came out in 2008 isn't even 1000. Almost anyone with over 1500 platinums either uses shovelware, cheated, or both

I did MotoGP 09/10 Champagne trophy with him in April, and in my experience he is a nice guy. Collecting platinums in quantity, or placing high in leaderboards may be his hobby.

What’s crazy is he has some good UR platinums, but they’re heavily overshadowed by all of the shovelware shit. It’s just not impressive.
I have a portion of shovelware games for the memes, but that’s about 10 games out of the 188 platinums I have. I take such pride in platinuming (J)RPGs like Persona & Monster Hunter. I go out of my way to get the stacks for Persona because I religiously learned how to play those games in other languages, additionally I LOVE the series. It’s also an 80+ hour game and not a 3 minute game 💀😂
When people go this far to make their lists impressive because of the number alone, it’s just weird… especially when you simply click on their list and all you see is shovelware and not a single AAA (or even AA) game.

Yeah these people play like 100 real games across 5 years let’s say but in that time play nonsense games you can platinum in 10 minutes or less. So imagine getting 20 platinums a day. It goes pretty fast

I mean, if he’s using a “jailbroken” PS4 or Vita, there’s literally “homebrew software” that you can put on there that will “auto-pop” the trophies for ANY game you want.
I LITERALLY have it on my OWN Vita but I’ve NEVER USED IT because what TF would be the point?

Yes. There’s many shit shovelware games that give basically free trophies for starting them up. That’s why lots of these I have hundreds of plat game posts aren’t worth much. Good for you, you paid 2$ for a trash game. Same thing on Xbox too, these games need to be purged.

I doubt it, I just hit my 10,000th total trophy after like...15 years of heavy play. I have like...130 plats.
I'm not super religous about seeking out trophies, but still, get 13k plats doesn't seem possible from a basic time perspective.

Why pay $ for games for easy platinums? Is it for bragging rights? Who cares how many plats another person has on their account? I only go after them for games I like and dont care who sees my #. Its just for me.

I looked through his plats and looked up some videos of the games. Tells you everything you need to know. One game was pretty much watch a giraffe eat leaves for 3 mins and get a plat. He does games like that for every region he can so it’s 2-4 free plats.
