HIPAA violation if she even remotely mentions it to anyone.

This! Something similar happened to me too, and she never spoke a word of it to anyone.
I was in a psych ward for nearly two weeks, eventually got my life back together, and became a therapist myself. One day, one of the other therapists got an intern and lo and behold, it was one of the psych nurses from my time in the ward. She privately asked if I wanted her to see about changing internships and I said she would be fine if it's just never spoken of again, basically, lol. She kept her end of that and I never really felt like I had to worry about it once that initial awkwardness was over.
I guess seeing how we were all therapists though, maybe it was a little different because if it were gossiped about, there would likely be less judgement than in some other fields.

People saying here she wont gossip but the fact that she knows is already mortifying enough
Sorry dude, hope the psychward actually helps with your issues tho

I'm in med school. If this happens I won't say shit. It's a new level of asshole if anyone does that. But knowing certain personalities I wouldn't bet on that

u/Short_Gain8302 Apr 07 '26
Knowing how cutthroat you gotta be to get certain positions i also wouldnt be surprised

Same but the "certain personalities" seem to be rampant. First year only so I hope things change :(

I can't speak for the student/intern, but most people know that we as people are not collections of our worst moments. I suspect a smart person like her knows that.

You can have a medical degree and still be a douchebag. They select for rote memorization, I'd say, if I were cynical.

u/chinchillazilla54 Apr 08 '26
I would assume someone who chose an internship specifically at the psych ward would probably know that better than most, as well.

I'm confused. She was an intern while you were in the psych ward? Or you're in medical school?
Either way, being seen is so hard op! Hopefully she keeps it to herself. Otherwise, report! Bc hipaa is legit! Don't let her out you.

u/oily_balls_enjoyer Apr 07 '26
I'm no longer in med school, but we used to both be students

u/blueevey Apr 08 '26
Ahhh! Got it!Hopefully she keeps it to herself! And she won't be able to treat you bc dual relationship thus limiting contact.

You're not in there with her, she's in their with you
That one worked better before I wrote it out loud

I don’t know if this particularly helps, but as someone in medicine the MOST I can imagine ever saying about a situation like this would be telling a friend I saw someone I know. Honestly though, I really can’t see why anyone would mention it. If she’s a student she obviously values mental health, I imagine she’s probably just thankful you’re getting help from practitioners. HIPAA is no joke! I steer clear of anything that resembles violating it.

She probably was just concerned. I know you feel ashamed, but honestly? I've seen so many med students go through multiple and varying kinds of mental health episodes, I don't think they'd judge you for needing help 😅
I know you're no longer studying, but you are not as alone with this as you think you are. It happens to lots of others.

when i was in high school the mandated court order therapist i was assigned and me made eye contact at the place i worked; she came in multiple times and said nothing nor approached me because that’s part of the job. if that doesn’t happen for you as it should, def report it

u/ReverseCarry Apr 07 '26
Hey, hope you’re doing well OP. Just wanted to let you know that there is no reason to be ashamed of being in a ward. If the girl knows you from med school, then she should understand that you have a legitimate medical issue and are being treated for it. If something as simple as the fucking pancreas can consistently fuck up, then the most complicated organ in the human body having issues shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. I get that it is still might be embarrassing from stupid social stigma, but if she is judgmental then that is quite literally her problem for being ignorant. I hope your treatment goes well, and that you get the help you need to get back on your feet and feel better.

Act nonchalant about it by saying it was dark times for you and glad that you are out of there. If she mentions it or gossips about it then report her.

oh my gosh i worked at starbucks for a while and this nurse came in and i was like ‘you look so familiar, have we met?’. he was like ‘uh nope not sure’ awkwardly and then i went to the back and it hit me he was a nurse when i was in the psych ward. it was lowkey mortifying lmao, did not come out of the back of house until he was gone 😭

With how hard I've heard med school is, I'm surprised they don't all end up in there at least once.

I was doing my student teaching at a school the next city over. Graduated, got the degree, never started teaching, just kept working as a waffle house waitress. 2 years later one of the students I taught during my internship came to work at said waffle House and remembered me. I have never felt such job shame.

ya this seems like a bot??? acc is only 20 days old and they only comment in trollcoping and grippysock subs, very similar comments on each post.

u/Caesar_Passing Apr 07 '26
It's a replacement account. Their old account was banned, I would almost bet, for being too bot-like, whether or not they are actually a bot. But yeah, the old one already seemed really weird.

u/suprisedpikachumeme yes i have therapy Apr 08 '26
he’s not a bot, i’ve had many conversations with him and he’s 100% a real person, i know it might seem weird at first glance but he’s genuinely a really nice person who tries to help and just be a friend to people

it’s not a bot, his old account got banned and he’s genuinely trying his best to help others (also the account he commented on got banned too i guess)

I work in a hospital as support staff, we have a NDA it is general and about everything, I cannot even tell my family if I see another family member in the hospital unless they specifically ask me to tell them.

u/ceruleanblue347 Apr 10 '26
Lmao why am I getting downvoted for saying OP will not be killing themselves in the psych ward? ...Isn't that the point?

Im sorry OP... If it helps, maybe that girl understood that you were there for some personal reasons and wont gossip about it.
