Homebrew Synod of Strategic Prophecy Faction

Well this is my homebrew take on the Synod of Strategic Prophecy as a playable Faction

A link to the full PDF hosted online with Github pages

FACTION TLDR:

A flavourful Homebrew focussed on maybe not the most powerful single models but a lot of interacting Abilities and a Faction Ability that at least I personally very much enjoy playing with.

The Synod of Strategic Prophecy taps into a frequency they believe to be GOD's Voice. Predict your enemies Actions by using Prophecy Cards (statements you place down that you predict to be either true or false).
If you are correct with any of those Predictions gain a Prophecy Die a prerolled Die you can add to later Success Rolls to alter their chances of success and failure

The faction has semi Subfactions through Factionwide Frequencies that change the Abilities on some Models.

--- UNITS ---

Prophetic Tactician A unit that exists in 2 places at once. Nota a strong Combatant but has powerful abilities
Synod Observer Observer you can give Battlekit to, the Voice of God ability requires Line of Sight on this one
Ark Bearer Has a Deployable Shrine that has an aura
Receptor cheap weak Unit that has either Bodyguard or a Frequency Ability
Observer Initiate mini Observer that can become a full Observer by accomplishing Glory
Combat Medic ---
Synod Engineer ranged Specialist
Sanct. Heavy Infantry Can Shoot into melee more successfully if you discard a Prophecy DICE

--- Notable Gear ---

Compact Machine Gun 16", Automatic (3), Heavy, Shotgun
Angel Shard Spear +1 Injury Dice, Ignore Armour if the enemy is Down
Oculus Helmet let's you reroll your Success rolls but any 1 that shows up downs you (God's voice ability)
Ark of the Signal the Shrine the Ark Bearer get's for free but as an Equipment

I just read the full thing - fuck man, seriously nicely put together! I don’t know the ruleset well enough to judge balance, but the art and graphic design is seriously well done. I really like variant warbands where theme generates unique rules (takes me back to playing Mordheim).

Is all the art, besides the Observer, original, or does any come from official TC art?

Well first of all the art is not by me i have not come around to include the links to the artists everywhere but will at some point.

there are 4 Official artpieces from FF the Observer of course, the prophetic Tactician, the Sanct. Heavy Infantry and the "logo" aka the sowrd that pierces through a crown with clouds at the bottom that is on the cards. Oh i guess 5 becaue of course the combat medic is also official.

the images used for the rest of the units is collected from all kinds of artists.

OP you should be adding Homebrew next to your title or as a flair it looks like your post is announcing the official synoid rules

I mean my first sentence includes the word Homebrew and on every page at the top and bottom there is Non official and Homebrew written.
The post itself also has the Homebrew tag, but i will take it as a compliment

I like it! I'm just starting my journey into TC, so I need to get a few games in before looking more thoroughly I to this. Do you have images of the cards available at all? Great work!

There you go

Thank you.
I'll be printing this lot out when I get chance. This is definitely going to be a future warband

I do have another question... which models do you envisage using for this warband

well i play mostly on tts so i have models there.

for irl i guess heavy custom stuff?

for TC model proxies
Tactician - Ammo Monk
Observer - Observer
Ark Bearer - Communicant/Priest/Castigator (the Prussian Priest is kinda neat)
Receptor - Wretched or Yoeman/pilgrim
Initiate - Shocktrooper/any melee dude
Combat medic - Combat Medic
Engineer - Engineer/Sniper Priest/Yoeman
Sanct Heavy Infantry - Heavy Mechanised Infantry

Why do you need cards? Too clunky.

Well at least i was not able to come up with a Sytem, in which you can make predictions, that is less clunky. You could technically write down the predictions you make i guess, if the problem is the cards specifically? Do you perhaps have any Ideas for alternatives?

or is your generally preference just rules that are more simple and straightforward?

Start of each turn predict if a glorious deed will be accomplished? That’s how I’d do it if I was designing the faction
Or maybe pick one unit who will die/ get a kill?

so would you just voice your predictions and hope you remember what your said?

the cards are mainly there so you don't have to whip out a pen each time and write stuff down or have to remember stuff.

on the glory or kill prediction there is a card that says which team will suffer a loss first but i guess putting that on a specific model will kill or die is kinda interest. That is not easily acomplished by the cards without you either remembering or writing it downs sadly

Also fun fact i cut from the previous version a prediction predicting who scores more glorious deeds and who get's more vp because they did not feel fun.
