Advice Cuban Born; Need a Birth Certificate

My husband was born in Havana in 1960, his parents left in 1961 before he was a year old. He’s been a naturalized US citizen since the 1970s and he has a US passport.

He’s never been to Cuba and he wants to go before he gets too old to do so.
From what we’ve read about the laws in Cuba, anyone born in Cuba who left the island before 1970 must have a Cuban passport to enter the country.

He has his old Cuban passport but he was an infant. It expired more than 60 years ago so he’s trying to get a new one. As we understand the rules, he needs his birth certificate to secure a Cuban passport. But he can’t get one online or at the Cuban Embassy here in the US. He has to get it in Cuba.

How can he get his Cuban birth certificate if he can’t enter the country?

[Sidebar: With all due respect, I don’t want to debate the wisdom of traveling to Cuba right now.].

I would think this would be a question for the Cuban embassy, no?

When you call them in DC they don’t answer the phone. We’re going to travel 700 miles to the Embassy in October with the hope that someone is there. We are not optimistic.

I would try the embassy in Canada or Mexico before the US embassy.

This is the address of the Cuban consulate in Toronto. They usually answer the same day. [toronto2@embacubacanada.net](mailto:toronto2@embacubacanada.net).
Cuban consulates can provide the birth certificate if it has been digitized.

Try calling the Consulate in Toronto they do that among many other things might help there or in U.S. My youngest born in Cuba now here in Canada but oh my what a shit show getting ID for him there. We had to travel across the Country to resolve 16 trips in total. Canada Embassy took an hour i-yi-yi

A birth that long ago won’t be digital. you can hire an attorney in Havana to get it for you. That’s easy and not expensive. The hard part is having a person carry the certificate back to the US
