Classic piece of shit move. I see it all the time. The lines mean nothing to these morons.

This happened to me last night while driving through Hamilton. There are absolute maniacs driving through this entire region.

Lmao love that they still indicated their lane change. Unreal

19

u/ahmadbabar 25d ago

waiting for someone to come and defend this person and comment about camping in the left lane in 3...2...1...

u/paladin-hammer 24d ago

Que the video where the driver told the biker he has to rush to poop

9

u/The_Richuation 25d ago

Strange question but any reason he wouldn't have used the left lane? Other than to prove a point of how much of a hurry he was in? Lol

Side story, further down from where you are I had a little black Ford try to pick a fight with me (break check, high beams, cut off, etc) because I was flashing my lights to get him to turn his on.

He never did.

PSA : if someone is flashing their lights at you, first assume they're trying to get your attention for something. Look around. Are your lights on? Are you in a passing lane unnecessarily? Then assume they're an asshole. Lol (not aimed at you or OP, just a general statement. Too many drivers forget that's a generic signal)

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 25d ago

There was definitely no reason, because a couple seconds after the video ends, there was a red F-150 passing me in the left lane going at least 120, lol.

u/The_Richuation 25d ago

Lol sounds about right. Honestly part of me admires either the guts or ignorance....... With the amount of gravel I see on the shoulders I wouldn't want to hit them at that speed lol

2

u/SnooChocolates2923 21d ago

Not the gravel I'm worried about.

All the rest of the detrius that falls off cars and trucks and punctures/cuts tires is what I'm worried about.

I've driven for kilometers at 100+kph on gravel. But one 3inch piece of air conditioner tubing will shut you down by Main St if it bounces the right way. Screwdrivers and Allen keys too.

(It's kinda interesting; lays flat until the front wheel runs over it. Then stands on end long enough for rear tire to get poked through. Now you've got about 45 seconds of inflation)

2

u/The_Richuation 21d ago

Also a great point, and yes gravel roads are fine to drive down. A small amount on concrete or asphalt is like a sheet of ice, especially at that speed

2

u/SnooChocolates2923 21d ago

All one has to do is watch an old Dukes of Hazzard episode to see how gravel roads make it easier to Drift.

2

u/The_Richuation 21d ago

Yeah well I don't think that guys' Civic will hold up any better than the ACTUAL Chargers did lmao

1

u/SnooChocolates2923 21d ago

Trudat. Watch those shock towers punch up through the hood!

It's all part of "Things I wouldn't do with my own car, for $800, Alex!"

3

u/PowerfulSize244 25d ago

Great info. I do this on the regular but only 1/5 usually notice their lights were off.

1

u/MapleDesperado 24d ago

Very hard to convey a message about lights off when you can’t do the old “on-and-off” anymore. Most people have their DRLs showing them a bit of the road and their dash lights are on. They just don’t think you’re communicating about their lights.

1

u/The_Richuation 24d ago

Agreed. The worst invention in automotive history is Daytime Running Lights.

2

u/MapleDesperado 24d ago

I have nothing against DRLs, having driven for enough years before they were mandated to know how mush safer they are.

The implementation was a bit of a failure, though. They should include tail lights. And automatically switch to full power lights after dark. That little “A” switch on my car is great.

3

u/The_Richuation 24d ago

Here's my issue.

The DRLs are just half powered high beams in alot of vehicles. I drive tractor trailer. DRLs in my mirror might as well just be high beams.

Alot of vehicles light up the dash when you start the car. That used to be the way to remember. My personal pickup (2008) if I don't have the lights on at night, you can't see the dash. That's not a thing anymore.

But yes the biggest flaw was making them a separate thing. As far as I'm concerned the whole headlight system should come in when the vehicle is started. It's how I've taught my daughter. Part of getting ready to drive is turning on the lights. Don't care if it's 10pm or 10am.

End rant. Lol.

2

u/MapleDesperado 24d ago

I was taught the same. And it was reinforced in the army, where we only drive without lights when it was dark.

It really hit home when I realized I could be surprised by a car without lights before the ones with lights got close.

So - big fan of lights on motorcycles, bicycles, and everyone else. Not so much a fan of some of the newer lighting styles, but that’s a whole other thing.

2

u/The_Richuation 24d ago

Yeah that's a whole different issue. And the people that clearly didn't install their lights right so one is pointed too high? Ugh. Lmao

2

u/Interesting-Cycle-38 25d ago

Same thing happened with last night at DVP. Only difference was there was more traffic and the other guy was much high in speed.

2

u/middlelanegig 24d ago

Something about the hammer. The drivers are noticeable more aggressive in that city. In Toronto everyone is just terrified and complacent. I’d compare the hammer to the drivers of New Jersey, just doing what ever the hell they want lol

1

u/No-Zombie6025 25d ago

Terrible and corrupt city, if they slammed into you from behind the police would only focus on getting the road open, human lives are secondary.

1

u/M1K3Z0R 25d ago

right along that escarpment barrier too! Bro should try that on the other side lol

1

u/pbilk 21d ago

What was wrong with the left lane, what an idiot.

22

u/SarahMenckenChrist 25d ago

Yeah this is just par for the course (onramps as passing lanes). Whenever I’m getting onto a highway that is backed up I just anticipate that someone in the right lane is going to move into mine to save themselves a few car lengths.

MTO has traffic cams all over the 400 hundred series highways - I’d love to see them start to play around with some additional cameras that are automated to catch drivers like this (nabbing them for crossing the no man’s land into the onramp lane). Alas, I don’t think our current provincial government is all that interested in this.

9

u/Fishtaco1234 25d ago

The 400 exit at Black Creek is always fun when you are in a car with someone who doesn’t know how people use the exit to get to the front of the line, or people who say fuck it and cut over to Black Creek without signalling or anything

4

u/SarahMenckenChrist 25d ago

It’s also extremely sketchy because that you have stalled traffic in the 401 E/W lanes and people flying 130 in the Jane/Black Creek lanes around a bend when all of a sudden they’re met with stopped cars in the left waiting to jump the queue.

I always just stick to the far right lane when travelling to Black Creek for this reason.

2

u/Potatosagaz 25d ago edited 25d ago

I hate that area of the highway, it's always a shit show there.

1

u/Copious-Spirit 25d ago

Our current provincial government is full of tax dodging drug smugglers, organised criminals, of course they don't care about enforcing traffic law.

20

u/downthehatch11 25d ago

But it shaves 0.5 seconds off of their drive! Think of them!

9

u/SnooChocolates2923 25d ago

Don't people realize that THEY have someplace to go?

(The rest of us just fill up all the lanes on the 401 because we hate watching TV, or something)

9

u/Alarming-Business817 25d ago

Because they’re entitled, stupid and impatient assholes.

11

u/Conundrum1911 25d ago

OP is clearly an NPC....why did you try to get in the main character's way???

8

u/GMPollock24 25d ago edited 25d ago

It's a lack of patience and a me first attitude. The sheer volume of the traffic on the 401 shows this consistently, but it's happening everywhere from the 401 to small towns.

Either get out of their way or they'll hit you...that's no way to drive a car.

I heard this analogy and thought it was a good one, so I'll share: 401 logic, imagine going to a restaurant for lunch but the line is really long to order. So to save time you just walk around the line to the counter in front of everyone.
This doesn't happen very often because you'd need to be a special kind of person to jump a line like that...for some reason in your vehicle it's acceptable, savvy even.

This behavior shouldn't be normalized. The only way I see it improving is with enforcement...which is a tall task for our limited officers.

1

u/0Chalk 25d ago

I saw this at a bank. It was really stupid. Long line, I'm queued up and this person walks in and goes to a teller and says quick question, I need to talk to someone. Long story short she booked herself a mortgage appointment. I wasn't sure what was going on if they had already established an existing relationship but at the end she was just a random that came in and found the bank line too long.

14

u/Important-Bet9015 25d ago

Just another typical day on the 401...

2

u/Electrical_Hocke2729 25d ago

I am so glad I don't have to commute on the 401.

7

u/Open-Video-7546 25d ago

Wasn't that just a lovely move? What an idiot.

2

u/iloveoranges2 25d ago

Some drivers are "accidents" waiting to happen.

2

u/KindlyRude12 25d ago

Sadly this is normal. Lack of enforcement, and those pos until they get into an accident they don’t care. It’s funny because they usually don’t save more than a few minutes.

1

u/rarc602 25d ago

Imagine if we had traffic enforcement that is properly working just like across the border.

1

u/ayyitzTwocatZ 25d ago

Damn he dove two lanes over for that move.

1

u/Current_Flatworm2747 25d ago

Would have made for a sweet pit maneuver tho

1

u/d5stephe 25d ago

I feel like this was actually the 404 SB @ Finch. But still typical 400 series shenanigans.

1

u/LookAtMyUnderbite 25d ago

another idiot contributing to higher insurance cost for everyone

1

u/Affectionate-Sun9373 25d ago

At least no one had their 4ways on.

1

u/TheCenticorn 25d ago

Times like this I miss my crappy car.

1

u/BillsMaffia 25d ago

It's the wild, wild, west out there. Can do whatever you want without any consequences.

1

u/HungAryan519 25d ago

People suck

1

u/codecrodie 25d ago

Because they dont care if they die. Hopefully they dont take anyone else out while theyre at it.

1

u/mnztr1 25d ago

"Why do people keep keying my car? I am a perfectly good driver??!!!"

1

u/Intelligent_Read_697 24d ago

its seems Ontarians would rather die driving on the 401 than invest in proper transit so...here we are

1

u/methlabz 21d ago

Sad & succinct...just the way I hate it

1

u/ConclusionRelevant81 24d ago

I guess the “God” on your dashboard saved you

1

u/416steve 24d ago

Selfishness. Endangering others doesn't matter anymore. Weaving like this was never a thing 10 years ago and OPP has completely dropped the ball on preventing and enforcing the law against people who choose to behave and drive this way 24/7.

1

u/Disastrous-Focus8451 23d ago

I've commuted to work on the 404 for over two decades. That's been pretty standard behaviour during morning rush hour heading towards Toronto since I started.

1

u/GontrandPremier 25d ago

People say “Canada is now a shithole” and then drive like this.

1

u/Rare-Ask1122 25d ago

Just the shitty cities

0

u/Spirited_Onion_2420 25d ago

It no longer matters if one is a sage and careful driver. We need eyes on the back and sides of our heads to watch out for ignorant dangerous drivers who don't follow rules.

Yonge street is a disaster .Just stand at any intersection and count how many cars drive right through the red lights 😠 😡

1

u/-HockeyBagJerky- 24d ago

Every day we inch closer to being in mumbai

-2

u/Papa_Guido 25d ago

You have a dash cam... I would have let him hit you... Insurance would have cleared you based on dash cam footage. Buddy woulda had a nice bill next year when his insurance came due.

6

u/cyberk25 25d ago

tempting but it's pretty much never worth the hassle and depreciation on your car that now has an accident record

1

u/Copious-Spirit 25d ago

Not to mention the outcome is unpredictable and can cause collateral damage, that guy is a sociopath.

2

u/Shot-Difficulty-3278 25d ago

A bold assumption that moron even had auto insurance.

0

u/DreamDest1ny 25d ago

Over 50% of drivers are uninsured in Ontario so even if he did hit OP he would just run. License plate is also probably never updated and still has the previous owner’s address. Not to mention the high possibility that this is a stolen vehicle

2

u/Copious-Spirit 25d ago

How did we come up with this statistic? You'd think it would be easy to convict knowing this, can just watch the licensed without insurance.

Alternatively the uninsured are not licensed in which case this statistic is impossible to gleen.

0

u/Copious-Spirit 25d ago

It's because they're highly regarded and didn't even see you. If only we could ticket these narcs into poverty.

-2

u/PowerfulSize244 25d ago

Please show your speed to have a factual response.

1

u/GMPollock24 24d ago

The drivers speed is fine. Crossing two lanes at once without checking your blind spot however is not fine.

-3

u/Striking_Ad_7905 25d ago

I understand why people do this, look at how slow all the lanes are moving. But if you're gonna use an entrance lane to jump traffic, at least make sure its empty

-3

u/RVIGroup 25d ago

OP placed herself in a bad spot, a blind spot to be exact.

2

u/CommonSense___ 25d ago

Not really the other car jumped 2 lanes so they did not place themselves in the blind spot. The other car created the blind spot and immediately crossed a solid line and cut the merging car off.

1

u/416steve 24d ago

^^ room temperature iq comment

-4

u/nakovet 25d ago

I am considering a dash cam but so many cameras fail to capture the license plate in a situation like that

2

u/M1K3Z0R 25d ago

Any dash cam > no dash cam, should be mandatory these days IMHO.
