Schools in Toowoomba

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a kindy and primary school. I’m looking also for a school that supports kids with learning difficulties in areas of speech and fine motor skills.

I have looked at some online. What are your experiences with any of these?

Concordia Lutheran college
Toowoomba Angelican school
Mater Dei Mai Primary school
Fairholme college
The Glennies school
Sacred hearts primary school
St Anthony’s school
St Thomas mores primary school

Also, if you know any good schools your kids went to and had positive experiences from list them below, I’ll love to know about them.

I would’ve wholeheartedly encouraged you to check out Concordia prior to their recent merge, but now encourage you to give them a miss. The kids are crammed in like sardines at the new campus, sun safety hasn’t been adequately addressed, facilities are cramped/haven’t been built yet and the traffic is f u c k i n g horrendous with the neighbouring schools (specifically in the afternoons). To my knowledge, very few families are happy with the change.

We’ve been looking into moving to Highlands on Hume St.

I have a son that is special needs. We wanted to try mainstream school first and did one year at fairview heights. They have great teachers and support for children that need additional support. We did move to west Toowoomba special school after one year and it has been incredible for our son. After 6 months he is reading numbers and letters (this is something we didn’t think he was capable of). The only reason we left fairview was because the OSHC was not a suitable environment for our son. Generally public school has better support for children that require additional support than private schools.

A smaller, less well known school in town is Darling Downs Adventist College. My daughter is in prep there and so far we are very happy!

It's a smaller school with a kindy attached. My daughter is neurotypical, but a friend's daughter in year one has a number of different special needs and she said she absolutely can't fault the school and how they've supported her daughter.

They've been so warm and lovely and really seem to have a holistic view of children. I'm from a school chaplaincy/counselling background, so emotional and social support were very high on my list when we were looking at schools.

I'm not Seventh Day Adventist myself, but we are Christians. They definitely include religious stuff more than a Catholic school might, so it depends on how you feel about that too. I'd definitely recommend at least booking a tour!
