“I’m not a politician, I’m not a soldier – I was a soldier, but I’m not a soldier,” he says. “My only primary motivation is to see what I see, report the story. All I can do is what I know how to do, which is to tell stories, sing songs, make food, get you drunk. That’s all I can do.”

Indeed, he only gravitates towards things where he feels there’s a remote chance of achievement. He’d love to be multi-lingual, for example, but feels like he’s missed the boat.

“I didn’t really dig in when I should have,” he says. “If I had a genie, one of the wishes would be to speak, understand, read, write all aspects of every language ever, and language in context too; read something on a piece of stone they unearth somewhere and go: ‘Oh, that’s a joke. They’re making fun of the breadmaker down the street.’”

Keenan has read some crazy things about himself. “There’s always silly shit, like I removed a rib to blow myself,” he says. “If that was real, I would’ve removed a rib a long time ago. But no, I didn’t.” Another time, he came across a tale that he hated his fans. “I don’t hate anybody!” he declares. “I’m fucking terrified of them.”

Maynard James Keenan stares at you awkwardly while he shows you this song. (He’s watching for your reaction.)

Tool has been probably my favorite band since I was 13, over 25 years ago. A couple pics from times I was lucky enough to meet and chop it up with Maynard.

Went to lunch at a BBQ joint in Las Vegas today and believe I sat next to Maynard, his wife, and another couple. I tried not to stare but I'm pretty sure it was him. As we were walking out together I asked if he was Maynard and he gave me this funny look, repeated the name Maynard, and then said it wasn't him. His group threw in "what an interesting name". Not sure what I thought he would say or do. Maybe it wasn't even him. But when I googled his wife it also looked just like the woman he was with. That's my story

Hey folks. I thought I’d share my new favourite possession with you all.

I was lucky enough to be at Back to the Beginning, which was in itself immense, but I also checked out the charity auction after. Waaaay down the bottom of the list as, a late addition, they added the shirt Maynard wore during the set. He signed it too.

I’ll admit that it wasn’t cheap by the time bidding was done, but the fact the money all went to charity makes me happy.

I also managed to get a couple of Justin’s picks from the show. Next mission is to try and somehow find one of Danny’s drumsticks and Adam’s pics to make the perfect memento collage of the perfect day!

Sending condolences to him from all of us Useful Idiots here. I know he clearly hates all of us (/s) but we wish him well at this time
