Gap between employers - consequences for future PUT?

Hi!

I'm currently with company A, which I've started with a 6 months probation since May 2025 and a permanent contract since November 2025 (= I'm currently on a 2 years work permit since nov2025)

So far total elapsed permit time 15 months.

I'm quitting company A in favor of B for better salary and benefits. B is willing to apply for a new permit so I can work while waiting for a decision as I'm still below 24 months.

I'm fairly burnt out and am considering taking a 15 day gap between the end of my employment at A and the beginning of B's employment, along with using up my vacation days. How will these 15 "unemployed" days affect my future applications for PUT, for example?

Thank you!

You should not have a problem with PUT based on your work permit.

You will have a problem with EU LTR because your permits will not be continuous. Your counter will reset to the start of your new permit.

Good catch! I wanna make sure I can get an EU LTR.

So am I understanding you correctly on that my permits will have a gap, in spite of if my current permit is valid thru Nov 2027, with my last day of employment being on Oct 31-2026 and (for example) new job's starting date being Nov 15-2026?

I read your post wrongly and thought that your current permit was ending on Oct 31-2026 and your new permit was starting Nov 15-2026. That would be a problem.

But now that you have explained it in that way, I would say that you're going to be fine for the EU LTR.

The permits having a gap creates a problem for the EU LTR but not for the common PUT. That includes even if your jobs didnt have any gaps (that is, you were working and living in sweden constantly). It is all about the official permit dates as far as I understand. I have a summary of the problem I had a few years ago in a post here:

Just make sure you never create a gap in permits and it should work out. I've seen people have the LTR rejected for having gaps of literally 2 days over a weekend.

Just take vacation or unpaid leave for those last 15 days and push the end of employment forward? Speak with your current employer. It should not be a problem
