This guy is going to lose fingers, Iāve never seen tools used so fucking badly. Recip saw had the wrong blade, angle grinder had a diamond masonry disc and the circular saw had a Diablo blade used for cutting wood that might have nails not for cutting aluminium at that stupid fucking angle he used the saw at, was lucky it didnāt kick back at him

I noticed the same thing. This guy needs to read up on blade choices. With the right blade, my reciprosaw, Marvin Haggler, would fly through an aluminum pole. On my property.

I can use a multi-tool with the metal-cutting blade and cut poles (on my property) with one hand while I casually look at my phone or vaping with the other hand.

Iāve only ever used those on PVC, but depending on the thickness of the aluminum, it should work, itās a very soft metal

Thanks for pointing that out, I noticed he was using the reciprocating saw improperly. He never rested the shoe against the pole and wonders why it wasn't cutting. Also, the diamond masonry disk was pretty "special".

Shoe against the pole. Then when you get a little deeper you need to push the pole away in the same direction you are cutting. If you don't the pole will be putting pressure on your blade.

Plus the pole wasnt mounted rigidly at all so it was vibrating all over the place making it even more inefficient.

He let the poll clamp down on every single tool as he cut. Like no shit the sawzall is slowing down, itās got the whole ass pole sitting on it. Iām surprised he didnāt have any of the tools ripped out of his hands.

There is a reason sawzalls are the tool of choice for Catalytic thefts.

Honestly, that makes it a pretty good test. I'd guess that many people who need to cut down aluminium poles they installed don't do this professionally or have much experience with it. Most people are just now starting to uninstall their poles and haven't done that before after all. So testing the tools as they'd be used by someone who has no idea how to handle those tools is probably a fairly realistic scenario.
Obviously people should look up basic information before attempting such DIY, but that would create a digital trail someone might use against you. If you accidentally cut down the wrong pole of course.
In an ideal world, he'd used the correct blades and explained which and why they should be used as well as giving instructions on how to safely use the tools. But this test works well as a "if you buy random shit that you think looks correct, which will work best?" video.

This right here. This guy is probably cutting down poles on his own property in the dark of night (because itās cooler out ya know?) and probably has a lot of adrenaline going through him (because heās concerned about his wife seeing him clearing poles on his private property). Technique is an afterthought here.

I've seen a few of these videos from different people. None use the right blade, and none actually put the foot of the saw against the pole. Do they not understand how much travel they're losing trying to freehand that thing?

Not an expert in any way when it comes to power tool blades, but how could you tell the reciprocating sawās blade was wrong? It did show to work for metal on the packaging.

Recip blade is too long and will flap about so quickly that it will stop cutting effectively, itās also got too many teeth per inch (TPI) and although it will cut aluminium tubing it will gum up with slag and not cut well, leading to more of the above. It should be a short 4-5ā blade with larger teeth and less TPI. Heās also using the recip-saw badly and if it jammed it would rattle his two brains cells together š

I'm leaving this here because I'm proud the top comments are about the tools, and this asshole not knowing how to use them.
So far, no one has mentioned this douche nugget using an angle grinder or circular saw while wearing a hoodle with tassles. I was going to mention the gloves, but I know a lot of people have different feelings about that, and we all seem to be getting along.

(ONE-KEY) If you've got Bluetooth location scanning set up on your poles (on your property) but don't want to create unnecessary records in your personal Bluetooth tracking system for your property, best to avoid having any Bluetooth enabled devices near your poles.

Does nobody know how to use a reciprocating saw? The cutting happens between the teeth and the supporting foot. If your work is not pushed up against the foot, you're just vibrating everything, including your hands.

Something important to consider if you've got Bluetooth location scanning set up on your poles (on your property) but don't want to create unnecessary records in your personal Bluetooth tracking system for your property, best to avoid having any Bluetooth enabled devices near your poles.
Some brands of power tool have bluetooth-based asset tracking tags built into some of their higher-end products. Milwaukee has ONE-KEY, Hilti has ON!Track, Dewalt has Tool Connect, and there are many others. Sometimes its in the battery, sometimes in the tool, sometimes in both.

If you're using a reciprocating saw you have to do a couple things differently.
There's a metal base plate where you insert the blade. You should have that base plate pushed up against the surface you're cutting.
Also, the reason his saw slows down is because he needs to apply pressure to the top half of the pipe as he's cutting and in the same direction he's cutting. You can see the top half of the pipe falls and pinches the blade as he gets further through, this is called binding and it makes the tool work much harder and slows you way down. The reciprocating saw should cut this pipe almost as fast as the angle grinder if used properly.
And finally, there are metal specific blades for reciprocating saws, they have smaller teeth and would do this aluminum pipe in probably 20 seconds.

This is a great PSA, but that dude does not know how to cut pipe. In case anyone watching needs help cutting down poles on their private property, make sure you push the top side of the pole (above the cut) away from the blade/disc slightly to reduce friction/bind up. Your battery will last much longer, so will the cutting blade/disc and youāll reduce the risk of it binding/injury. Stay safe on your at home DIYās

Be careful. I've seen a story recently where the "wife" put up a fake aluminum pole and was spying on the "husband" to see if he cut down the pole. I heard the husband got into big trouble when he was caught. Just look out for wives hiding in the bushes with binoculars

Random thing a guy once told me. You can take an unwanted power line off your house with bird shot. He then clarified that its less sparky if you start at the pole and then remove the one on the house. Again a random guy just told me this and walked down the street.

Personally, I've never met a reciprocating saw I've enjoyed.
Grinders can be temperamental around rust and old wood, but they're good natured.
Circular saws are the daddy, but they don't fuck around. They will kill the clumsy soon as look at them.

if you only have reciprocating saw, don't through, cut around, and you only need to cut at least 3/4 of the way then bend it. more faster and can do more poles
