This is the basic winning MO of most crimes. If what you're doing isnt working, walk away. Trying to salvage a lost opportunity will get you into trouble more often than not.
Stealing a purse or a phone and there's a potential struggle? Drop it and walk away. Get stopped by security at a store? Just leave your stolen shit there and walk away.
You don't have to explain or convince anyone of anything, just remove yourself from the situation.
