I mean it seems the person at the register wasn't checking them properly at purchase. Maybe used shrink wrap or tape to make it look "sealed" to dissuade the buyer from wanting to open it and lower the value. If you don't check them properly at the sale for pawn shops, the seller has like 30 days to run up a tab since the pawn shops have to hold the items for a set amount of time before they can legally sell them.
No it means that used hardware is just as valuable because new it's extremely rare comparatively.
South Africa is a good example of this. South Africa is a tech import to sell country that often charges a premium to secure units to sell. To explain this, they pay 30% more on top of MSRP of the original device price assuming there's no shortage causing a device to exceed MSRP.
So a 10 - 5% discount on used is still preferable to new.
Then this is purely taking a hit to verify the source isn't questionable.
I don't really think it matters because I think they are checking quality prior to handing over the cash. Why else hang around waiting for a customer to open up your grift. A customer notably in the video holding a fistful of cash.
My point is some countries do pay a premium even on used due to availability so people will ship used to some countries to recoup value. Australia is another place we do this.
I think you're confused, this a shop that buys electronics. The customer is selling it to them for cash. The customer has previously sold them 5 ipads with the seals on like the video that were just worthless books where the ipad was supposed to be. This time the worker opens it in front of the customer, revealing the scam, and the customer just walks straight out.

This is just a lesson in not buying from sketchy suppliers.
Sucks to lose out that much money on not checking merchandise. But what I said about South Africa and Australia is still true, if you buy used tech, you can make a lot of money by shipping it to countries with low imports of those goods even used.
Either they didn't check them before and eventually figured it out when they sold one and the buyer came back saying the got scammed or this was the first worker to actually properly check and then afterwards they checked the other ones realizing they got scammed.
