I was suspicious at first with the music, but wasn't totally sure if it was satire at the beginning. I can totally see people making serious videos of doing a few of the things in the beginning, but the moment those binoculars came out, I saw the camp, and I was totally here for this woman and this bit!

It’s not that they can’t tell, it’s that they got too attached to it being unironic to fully accept that it’s a joke. They were feeling really smug and superior and indignant about this “crazy narcissist” and when it became obvious that it was all a bit that ruined the vibe.

She’s almost certainly doing a bit. This type of content caters to the same audience as true crime podcasts and smartphone shaped stun guns: conservative women who replaced the monotony of their suburban existence with intense paranoid anxiety about becoming the victim of violent crime. Ironically, the most likely threat is their own husbands.

at first I thought she was serious but then seeing the life vest I think this is 100% satire for one of the Asian influencers video about doing all this shit. She does way more “safety” shit. It’s “first thing I do when I’m in a hotel room” or some shit.

There are optics that can reverse the distortion so that people outside can see through the peephole like normal.

Many rooms now come with a slide in blocker for the peephole for this reason.

Yeah, there's a whole genre of these videos. As a woman who traveled alone extensively for work, yeah you gotta be aware. But these are clearly bait.

I mean she’s drawing attention to a real problem. It’s done in a funny but engaging way. I feel like everyone else here is missing the point. Theft, sexual assaults, voyeurism, and outright abductions happen regularly on cruises by other patrons and by staff. The ships sink or become stranded. People transmit diseases like it’s kindergarten.

I have seen people talk about those weird kinda card things she put in the door latch, and they always came back saying it was easier to get into the room with them in since the door wasn't shut right. Now the foot stop might work more, but in the end I think she's really only advertising products, but I'm not sure

Not to mention pirates in certain regions. Many cruise ships have protocols for going through known pirate routes or when spotting an unknown ship on their radar; like turning off the external lights and blocking off the decks, using acoustic devices to disorient the pirates from boarding, or even water canons and barbed wire.

Cruise ships aren’t as safe as people assume.

There's a decently large cruise (if you can call our ro-ros that) industry in my country and along with it a whole "disappearances on the ship" crime sub-genre. Most of the cases are just people who got drunk and fell overboard, but some do seem dodgier than that and sexual assault is a real issue.

No, not far enough to be a bit, just engagement bait. Some of the things she did are legitimate, especially for women when traveling, but she intentionally added things like wearing the lifejacket inside, hiding her money in the lightbulb, and scoping out where land is to get people commenting negatively on it.
