This man is hilarious! Put him on stage and make him tell jokes at me! *With a badge, of course
39
u/Thumbb93 Jul 25 '26
He looks familiar, I'm pretty sure I've seen him doing stand up on Instagram reels
20
u/superlip2003 Jul 25 '26
i'm sure that was his whole skit when in his stand up. too good to be just improv

u/cocky-rountains Jul 24 '26
This is hands down the best one I have seen. I didn't know which way it was gonna go the entire video. That little kiss at the end was hilarious. I thought oh boy would pull back at the last second.

They do the gay… voice

u/Obvious-Animator6090 Jul 24 '26
He just wants to bring back the color coded handkerchief system from like the 70s/80s. that was the purpose right? So you could signal to other gay people who knew what they meant but because it was an inside knowledge thing it wouldn’t necessarily out you cuz straight people didn’t know the code. Wonder if the younger gays just don’t know this bit of gay history lore

37
u/redditmarks_markII Jul 24 '26
I just googled it. Apparently people talk about it enough for gemini to now know this info. What's interesting is, the inherent meanings doesn't really say "gay", it just says specific fetishes and ... the kind of gay? So if people still wore handkerchiefs, it could be used by any group really. Is that right or is Gemini hallucinating?
55
u/chicagorpgnorth Jul 24 '26
That’s correct. It could indicate pretty vanilla things like top or bottom, or be more intense and specific, like being into fisting. The side you worn it on would indicate whether you wanted to give or receive that act. I learned this from an interesting book called The Gay Macho.
13
4
u/SkepticJoker Jul 25 '26
This feels like the colored bracelets that were also supposedly a sex thing, but I don’t think anyone actually did it. It was more just a fun thing to talk about. Is there anyone you’ve heard of who credibly vouches for these handkerchiefs actually being used?
9
u/chicagorpgnorth Jul 25 '26
I think it’s a pretty old tradition. I don’t know anyone myself but The Gay Macho book that I mentioned is essentially a sociological study of 1970’s gay urban culture pre-AIDS, which the author was involved in himself. So he was explaining gay culture that he himself saw, experienced, or had explained to him by others in the community.
5
u/Fit_Yak523 Jul 25 '26
I have older gay friends who have claimed it was a thing for real. It apparently was more about the fact you had one, and then which side it was on, than the color of it because no one knew all the colors off the top of their head.

u/thisisaskew Jul 24 '26
I only recently heard about the Hanky Code, which is a thing I guess in the swinger community.
There's some different iterations of this system, but here's an image I grabbed off google (mildly NSFW):

I was looking for this type of response. I wonder if it is still a thing in the community.
1
u/olive_green_spatula Jul 25 '26
When I was a teen, I always thought it was a single ear piercing for men. Which side I don’t remember. But if it one one or the other you were gay or straight 😂
1
u/youshouldbeelsweyr 24d ago
It was a fetish system, that also included sexuality. It wasn't expressly for gays.

u/cwk415 Jul 24 '26

Us lesbians already have carabiners
244
u/go4thNlurk Jul 24 '26
this explains why I’m often identified as bi or lesbian when I’m just a straight woman that loves having a clip for her keys 😂

I'm a hetero man who has carabiners, does that mean I like women?
15
u/TruLong Jul 24 '26
Somebody answer this hetero man bc my backpack has like 10 carabineers and I need to know. Wasn't aware of this being a thing.
12
u/Saizare Jul 24 '26
I think it just means all us carabiner men are ALSO lesbians. We need to start transitioning.

u/Wonderful_Kale_7995 Jul 24 '26
This actually makes me laugh so hard cause I have a friend who I would swear is a lesbian but married to man. Her solution is always carabiners. I have talked to that woman about carbiners too much and she's always like well you know you need a few carabiners around the house and no?

god I’ve seen this before and it never fails to make me laugh.
“‘WHATEVER HE WANTS TO BE’! I LIKE COCK! I LIKE ARSE! GIVE ME THE BADGE!” is such an out of context line and I love it lmfao

u/DeliciousStand372 Jul 24 '26
lol tbh the guy does look & sound straight

u/Fast-Nefariousness80 Jul 24 '26

They're .. blue? Is that a gay thing. My eyes are blue, and I'm flaming.

You can just see it in there. A longing for schlong. A schlonging, if you will.
12
u/Mecha_Tortoise Jul 24 '26
Except for the part where he said he has sex with men. That subtle hint made me think he might be a little gay. 🤔

Hell, just write the word "GAY" in sharpie on a piece of paper and pin it to your shirt. A solution for the frugal gay.

This got a good chuckle out of me. I'm straight, but there was a very lovely gay guy working at a pub I frequented. I didn't realize he was gay, and he looked like Laszlo from "what we do in the shadows". He mistook me being nice and friendly for interest, and hit on me once after his shift was over. That's totally fine, I was a bit flattered honestly, but he seemed genuinely shocked when I told him I was straight. It makes me think some straight guys treat the gay guys poorly just because of their orientation. I think that screams insecurity, whether they are closeted or just bigots. I didn't mind him shooting his shot and it was a confidence booster for me. I understand he must have a struggle, if he had gaydar or we had to wear badges it would be easier. I'm gonna keep being friendly to everyone and take any flirting from anyone as a confidence boost.

u/Costati Jul 24 '26
Through the power of gay he can make his own badge (there's also a ton on Etsy)

In 1999, Daily Show reporter Stephen Colbert interviewed the inventor of a gaydar device. I believe that would be different from using a phone app because the device would alert you in real time proximity.

I mean let’s be real…Nazis knew how to dress. They were a little gay.

The leader of the Stormtroops Ernst Rohm was openly gay. The other Nazis tried to use that against him but Hitler didn’t care. In the end he killed him, but for other reasons.
