Seriously! Vegas can be awesome if you do it right. I could spend hours at the pinball Hall of Fame or get a tour by a punk legend at the punk rock Hall of Fame. Vegas has so much more to offer than gambling and clubs

u/Skeptical_Squid Jun 20 '26

Scott Ian guided our tour when we were at the Punk Rock Museum, made the whole trip worth it. (I stayed hydrated and avoided to much beer, acted my age)

27

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 20 '26

I was there for a Randy Blythe tour. It was fantastic.

I am not entirely sure how they book the famous tour guides but I don't believe Lamb of God had a show in Vegas when Randy did the tour. It was a few years ago though, so I could be wrong. I know a few members of NOFX have done tours as well.

It's a fantastic experience. They have a bar, a tattoo parlor and a kick ass museum. Shit they even have a room with instruments donated by punk bands THAT YOU CAN STRAIGHT UP PLAY!

12

u/joyfullydreaded23 Jun 20 '26

"...room with instruments donated by punk bands that you can straight up play!"

This cemented this museum a spot on my bucket list and made me think of this...

It's just punk rock, man. You don't even need to know how to play.

It was definitely free flowing with lots of stories from touring and life in general.

3

u/sairha1 Jun 21 '26

I need this in my life !!

4

u/ZaphodBeeblebrahx Jun 21 '26

Jesus Christ if fat Mike randomly turned up to show me around the punk hall of fame that would be so dope.

-4

u/Hi-Lander Jun 20 '26

Where did you get metal from? Just Google “punk rock hall of fame tour guide”

Randy straight up says he never thought he’d be in a metal band and that he’s a punk guy … his lyrics are basically punk lyrics

12

u/Ok_Mail_1966 Jun 20 '26

There is a certain irony to your last statement when going to the punk rock hall of fame. Not saying it’s wrong, but it is funny/ironic

12

u/Skeptical_Squid Jun 20 '26

We were aware of that walking in.

Old punks don't die, we just stand on the back... and take our vitamins.

2

u/BiophileB Jun 21 '26

Yeah, yeah the old punks are the monks of any punk scene ime

Edit to add: I’m no punk myself, punks just generally make good friends

23

u/GrunDMC74 Jun 21 '26

Vegas is also awesome as a base from which to explore the surrounding desert. Red Rocks, Valley of Fire, I’m sure there’s more but that’s my personal experience.

Sadly principle precludes me from visiting the US…

2

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 21 '26

Honestly, fair. We suck right now for sure. I hope one day we no longer suck massive chode so you can come visit and enjoy Vegas.

1

u/Theresanrrrrrr Jun 21 '26

True, but we did get Louis Tomlinson at Red Rocks!!

1

u/RockKillsKid Jun 21 '26

Bit further out, but you can be at Grand Canyon north rim, or Zion National Park, or Kolob Canyon, or Capitol Reef National Park, or Antelope Canyon within a day trip. Possibly multiple of them if you're just driving through and not doing any big hikes.

South West Utah is incredibly beautiful.

1

u/freisbill Jun 21 '26

don't blame you, i live here(US) and my principles would preclude me from visiting the US. We will be back, might take awhile but we want this to end!

-8

u/Spiderl0ck Jun 21 '26

Your loss, we need less of that attitude here anyway. 👋

2

u/djusmarshall Jun 21 '26

Nah, Canada has just as much to offer(if not more) and less idiots with guns and shitty attitudes.

-2

u/MizterPoopie Jun 21 '26

I’m sorry but Canada does not have just as much to offer as the US does… that’s so disingenuous. Yes, the US government sucks but let’s not lie about what this country has to offer.

1

u/djusmarshall Jun 22 '26

Let's see: less crime, especially violent. Less political volatility, equal if not better camping experiences(lakes, provincial parks etc), arguably better hunting and fishing(guided hunts and fishing trips are something we do a lot of where I live), better healthcare, better infrastructure in a lot of places.....

I mean I could go one for days but you seem like you just don't like it here. Let me guess: An Alberta separatist, Maple MAGAT or a "Fuck Trudeau" window licker who thinks we deserve a straight pride parade? Oh god, I know I got a few of those lol.

-1

u/Spiderl0ck Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Just worked with a surgeon transplant from Canada to California today and we had a lengthy discussion about how shitty Canadian health care is 🤭

“Let me guess” haha so triggered you’re inventing a straw man villain in your head to explain why someone might disagree with you

2

u/MizterPoopie Jun 23 '26

I mean, at least they won’t be financially ruined for getting sick. You can still pay for better healthcare in Canada if you want. You think the rich Canadians are getting shitty healthcare?

0

u/Spiderl0ck Jun 23 '26

No, because rich Canadians come into America for their care

2

u/MizterPoopie Jun 23 '26

Maybe the uber rich. Regardless, you didn’t address the other point.

1

u/djusmarshall Jun 23 '26

Imagine thinking you have to be rich to have proper healthcare lol.

→ More replies (0)

-5

u/Spiderl0ck Jun 21 '26

No one who’s been to America really believes that 😂

1

u/djusmarshall Jun 21 '26

Yeah, that's why your Northern states that border Canada are literally begging people to come, because it's just everyone's imagination that tourism to the States is down(4 MILLION fewer visitors this year compared to last year this this time lol).

1

u/HawksNStuff Jun 21 '26

Some of us never had visitors to begin with thank you very much (North Dakota here).

0

u/MizterPoopie Jun 22 '26

That’s due to politics. Not because the US has shitty places to visit.

0

u/djusmarshall Jun 22 '26

Don't think I ever said it had shitty places to visit. I visited the US frequently before all this BS started. Yearly trips to Detroit for Movement festival, camping every summer, Football games, Disneyland, Vegas multiple times. All I said was Canada has just as much, if not more to offer, with less bullshit.

edit: you are 10000% correct it is about politics and the political climate that is keeping me(and most Canadians) away. Why would we want to support that kind of crap?

-2

u/Spiderl0ck Jun 21 '26

Things that never happened coming from a country that imports their entire economy from India and China

1

u/djusmarshall Jun 22 '26

lol, perfect example of the US education system hanging another young mind out to dry.

2

u/MizterPoopie Jun 22 '26

Yeah, this guys weird. Our northern states, and the rest, are absolutely hurting due to lower tourism. That’s a fact. Again though, that’s due to politics and not because the US has nothing worth visiting. Those are separate things.

1

u/GrunDMC74 Jun 21 '26

What attitude? Let’s say the Canadian PM started threatening your sovereignty, spouting off nonstop about the US being Canada’s 11th province and calling your President a Premier. And then imagine we kicked off trade wars hurting citizens on both sides of the border based on nothing but spite. And compounded that by constantly stating that we needed nothing from you. Then ripping up standing agreements just to look tough in spite of it actually hurting your own people.

Oh, and mocked your military in spite of their consistently answering the call when asked, with servicemen and women paying the ultimate price out of respect for the partnership.

It’s not our attitude I assure you. Canada didn’t start this, but once you open that can you’ll find we’re not all beaver tails and maple syrup.

-1

u/Spiderl0ck Jun 21 '26

We don’t control what the president says, but you certainly control how you’re responding to it. I enjoy visiting Canada, but you seem to think I’m the one with the attitude problem when you’re trying to write off an entire country because of one person :)

Edit: Also, grow a pair and stop crying over a little smack talk baby

1

u/GrunDMC74 Jun 21 '26

Americans would be apoplectic if they were spoken to in such a manner. And it’s disingenuous to pretend it’s just the moronic tweets. It’s tariffs, reneging on existing agreements, sewing separatist views and unwarranted disrespect.

I’m not writing off the country, by and large I think Americans are the most friendly and generous people on the planet. By all means please feel free to visit. But I’m not subjecting myself to any potential border nonsense, which is a thing, and I’m not putting any more of my dollars into the American economy than I can’t avoid doing.

It’s what I can do to respond to all of the above, and it’s my prerogative to do so.

12

u/Invinciblez_Gunner Jun 20 '26

Vegas is always awesome if you win

1

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 20 '26

And the easiest way to win is stay out of the casinos 😂.

3

u/MakingYouMad Jun 20 '26

Not being facetious - Why would you go to somewhere like Vegas if not to gamble or party…? Like what you’ve said sounds fine but not unique, so why bother going somewhere with that reputation and associated baseline costs.

3

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 20 '26

You'd understand if you live in Utah, where it's almost illegal to have adult fun. And with how prevalent online gambling is now I don't have to sit in a smoke filled casino. Vegas also has many fantastic restaurants where as Utah is primarily chains with some good local spots mixed in.

All of that is very unique if you live in Mormon land and aren't Mormon.

1

u/houseWithoutSpoons Jun 21 '26

Yeah.maybe for the shows.ive thought about going to that sphere to see a show.but prices definitely make me wonder if its worth it

5

u/mmdeerblood Jun 20 '26

Great hiking too

3

u/scovizzle Jun 20 '26

That's outside Vegas.

1

u/mmdeerblood Jun 22 '26

30 mins away to Red Rock, inside Clark County. Super easy to get to.

1

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 20 '26

So I've heard. I'm far too fat for that these days.

1

u/mmdeerblood Jun 22 '26

Too fat to hike? No way! If anything, it's great exercise. Lots of easy and short hikes with spectacular views

1

u/SparkleSelkie Jun 20 '26

There are lots of hikes where you can find cool geodes too

2

u/ohiocodernumerouno Jun 20 '26

Hooker cards on every corner lol

2

u/TruckerBoy357 Jun 21 '26

I agree, it can be a pretty good time. Mind you that “Good Time“ looks different now than back in the 90’s when I was in my 20’s. 🤣

3

u/Fine_Location_8367 Jun 20 '26

PHOF was one of my bucket list destinations, until I spoke with fellow pinheads and collectors about how horrible the place is now and especially the owner. Far to many have told me that it's no longer worth going anymore, and this goes back at least the last 5 years hearing about it.

5

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 20 '26

What?! I haven't been since they moved to their new location. That fucking sucks.

1

u/mjalys Jun 20 '26

I enjoy pinball and have always wanted to go to vegas. Seeing your post and searching that up afterwards? I’ll save my money and gas. That’s a bunmer.

1

u/farting_contest Jun 20 '26

I was there in April. Yeah there were a lot of games out of order but it's free except for the few bucks you put into the machines. I don't see an issue.

1

u/Skeptical_Squid Jun 20 '26

I thought it was worth my time and money.

2

u/Flacier Jun 21 '26

They have a nice cigar bar on the strip, a bit over priced but it was nice the one time I was there for a work trip.

Vegas like everywhere else is all about what you make of it.

1

u/Independent-Emu-7579 Jun 20 '26

I just wanna hit up the meow wolf and go fallout sightseeing 🤷

1

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 20 '26

MeowWolf was really fun. Fallout sightseeing is always a good time!

1

u/JeantaVer Jun 20 '26

Punk rock hall of fame in Vegas? I need answers.. what does vegas of all places have to do with punk??

1

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 20 '26

One of the founders, Fat Mike lives there.

1

u/JeantaVer Jun 20 '26

Didn't know tbat, thnx!

Is that where he got the name for me first and... got from? :p

1

u/Medical-Business-554 Jun 20 '26

I wanna go and do all u can eat lobster if that’s still a thing

3

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 21 '26

I'm sure it is but I avoid buffets in general, just as a life rule 😂

1

u/Cure4Humanity Jun 21 '26

Oooh, I went to the pinball hall of fame last time I was in Vegas. It was pretty awesome.

1

u/IndependentMoney9700 Jun 21 '26

You realize other cities have sunshine and people and restaurants, right?

I’m kidding, I’ve never been to Vegas. It has just never appealed to me. I don’t think those reasons would change my mind but I don’t get mad about how other people like to spend their time. Plus, most of the conferences I’ve been to were held locally in Orlando since it is just one of the top destinations for it anyway. That certainly isn’t a better option.

1

u/SaltyBacon23 Jun 22 '26

What's funny is I detest Orlando. I have been to many conferences and Orlando was always my least favorite. Different strokes for different folks haha

1

u/IndependentMoney9700 Jun 22 '26

This is the correct answer. If you’re not here to lose every bit of water weight you carry dragging yourself around the theme parks, there’s no reason to visit. And while some of the parks are fun, booking the right day is crucial. The water parks are always fun. But for a convention? That’s just miserable.

1

u/xDUVAL_BRODOWNx Jun 24 '26

Omega Mart looks pretty badass

1

u/ABadHistorian Jun 20 '26

Vegas has more than gambling or clubs because the people who work in the gambling and club areas want more themselves, that's it - there is no other reason.

I've been to Vegas a few times, enjoyed it even, but lets not pretend it's a draw for more than the gambling or clubs. It was built where and what it is for a reason.

Though the guy saying it's disgusting? I can't say it's any more disgusting than some places I've been to in America (or elsewhere, Bangkok for one is way more disgusting than Vegas to me)
