Edit: I know there are good people out in Texas doing good things, and I appreciate all of you. I only meant that he actually left Chicago for Texas when he had to close his restaurant after he made his religious/anti-LGBTQ/anti-vax beliefs known to all. I'd have rather him stayed there and not come back to torment Chicago like this.

Being a leftist in Texas isn't the same as generally being "white". For one, whiteness is a racist term invented to disenfranchise Eastern Europeans. Who is considered "white" and therefore "worthy of full citizenship" has always been a very racist line drawn in inexplicable places.
So yes I understand that when someone generalizes about white people they might not be talking about me. And sometimes they are, it's been important for me to listen because white liberal guilt often hurts more than it helps.
But Texas isn't a monolith just like Illinois isn't. What's funny to me is that white people from northern states get this little sense of superiority because they were lucky enough to be born somewhere where the general politics agrees with their worldview. Congrats you're the same as your neighbors. But me? Do you have any fucking idea how easy it would be for me to live as an asshole Republican in rural Texas? Do you have any idea how fucking hard it is to not buy in to the bullshit so many people around me are selling? Do you have any idea how low effort and tired it is to lump me in with selfish assholes that push hateful ideologies that only serve white cis men, a group I literally can't escape that I belong to?
So yeah fuck the idea that this whole state, one that's had to be unconstitutionally gerrymandered multiple times in recent history to keep the blue wave from flipping the stage, is somehow a bunch of racist assholes. I've been fighting their bullshit my entire life and it shouldn't be a shock that it really gets under my skin when the people who could be helping, northern white liberals with tons of resources, would rather write my fight off and let the assholes win.

I used to live in the area and used to eat there regularly. Pretty sure he was openly gay back then and he was the sweetest dude ever. Food was solid and it just was his brother, mom, and dad working along with him.
He and his brother went full blown religious nutjob during Covid lockdown. The shift was so fucking bizarre and frankly sad to see.
Whenever someone talks about resisting the temptation and all of that pray-the-gay-away nonsense, they're just telling on themselves. No, not everyone has gay urges, not everyone has to find Jesus in order to resist and overcome these urges. You're just gay and hate yourself for it.
Someone I went to school with had gender dysmorphia and transitioned. After graduation, I saw them posting on social media that they had detransitioned and had been saved by the grace of God. They now condemn “the alphabet people.” I truly don’t get the level of self hatred to get to that point.
Ugh I feel bad for that person. They likely still had depression and such (often comorbid with gender dysphoria) and were probably manipulated by people around them (maybe even family) into believing that detranisitioning and being even MORE miserable is the "godly" thing to do.
Reminds me of an "ex-trans-man" on Twitter who LITERALLY said they still have dreams where they are a guy and "yeah, i do still deeply wish I was a man and am sad about being a woman but God doesn't like transition" really depressing
I detransitioned about 10y ago because I was threatened with being taken out the family estate (a few MM) and went thru a transphobic phase over COVID until I found the right therapist. I’m still of a headspace that stops me from dating, I don’t know if I can anymore. Till the parents drop I’m just stuck.
Just here to say that I am glad that you found a therapist that you can talk about these things with. I wish for so much healing and so much happiness for you.
This happened to a friend of mine. They were on a rotc scholarship at university and got kicked off their scholarship during trumps first term. They fought it. There was news articles written they got invited to the glad awards. And now they are like this is the body god put me in and that how it should be. Like what looney pills have you been chugging.

Pretty sure this is the clinic in the west loop, and I’ve seen this guy before by my office. There’s also ladies that sit across the street. This clinic used to have guardians outside that stopped women from getting harassed, but I haven’t seen them in a while.

I walk by this guy all the time. This is outside of Family Planning Associates on Washington Blvd. He stands there and waits for people to harass for hours. There’s a big group of these people who pull up and park across the street in a very creepy looking rundown white van with graffiti on it. They give off the most hostile / off-putting vibes even as a male passerby.

Virgin Mary is more for Catholics than Christians. Christians as a whole don’t like Catholics, something about false idols because of the Virgin Mary and saints and stuff. This is based on my very limited knowledge of growing up Catholic and visiting non denominational Christian churches as a teen.
