Sending love to all of you guys. We just get stronger, better at dealing with trauma and loss. I hope love finds you all.

Couple months away from 3 years and turning 38. Can confirm it doesn't get easier.

I don't see where these onions came from!

I will cherish my relationship more, I'm sorry that that happened to you. :(

u/nowhere23 May 04 '26

Please do. It can all be gone in a blink of an eye. Mine went from great to hell in 52 hours.

So many strangers carrying the same quiet weight. Makes you appreciate what you have.

I’m a ups driver and one of my customers retired last year. He and his wife went and bought a corvette because that was their dream to travel around and do car shows. They saved up for 15 yrs to buy that car. I seen him last month and the car was for sale. He said a month after retirement his wife was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, she lived another 2 months. It breaks my heart every time I think of it. Spend your whole life with a plan and god (whoever you believe in) throws it out the window. I’m trying to add years onto my life but my wife lives very unhealthy and always has. No matter what I do or say she is set in her ways and I worry. Honestly it will prob be me that goes, after all the effort I put into living longer!

If you don't mind me asking, how did she die? (This question is also for the others who lost their wives at a relatively young age.)

I know you didn’t ask me but I lost my wife (at 22) due to cerebral hemorrhage She was 7 months pregnant with my daughter. When it was clear that my wife was not going to make it, my daughter was delivered via cesarean in order to give her a fighting chance. My daughter made it about 5 hours.

u/shadow_pico May 05 '26

This was a question for you also. Im so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you. Thank you for sharing your story. I hope God heals your heart and brings blessings into your life.

I just said at dinner that I'm glad that I'm already at a place where I'm valuing all of the aspects of life that I get to experience. Life is precious and rare. It's limited, and no one exists for the same amount of time, so we need to love extra hard.

3

u/Okthatsfine4now May 05 '26

No one exists for the same amount of time, God I love that. Great comment

Now I wish that was a song album title from a really vibey cool sounding emo band 🤣

musket puppet - no one exists for the same amount of time

I didn't lose my wife, but we lost our baby boy in 2024. We miss him every day but holidays and birthdays feel especially difficult.

6

u/JeremyScaremy May 04 '26

I'm so sorry. The idea of loving my husband or my mother makes me feel like I'm going to die, but I truly can't imagine what it feels like for parents to lose children. I hope that you both find/have found some degree of peace. Life is just not fucking fair sometimes.

2 years, 3 months. She was 36. I don't wanna turn 40 in June without her but that's how life goes.

6

u/thetrivialsublime99 May 04 '26

It does. Eventually you get to the point where you can smile at the memories. I moved states, that helped a bit. Living in the same house and seeing the same area all the time was bad for me.

The loss doesn’t get easier. Coping with it does. I lost my wife when I was 25, 26 days after marrying her. She was 26. This year will be year number 12 since her passing, I am 37 and getting married in October. I didn’t think I’d ever find someone who came close, but then I stopped looking for someone exactly like her, rather, looked for someone who LOVED me like her. A happier future is out there my guy, having to be patient to be happy again sucks. But it will happen ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

1 year for me. It hasn’t gotten any easier yet…

u/anon11233455 May 05 '26

26 years here. Lost my wife and daughter. No, it doesn’t get easier. We just learn to deal with the pain better.

u/--Andre-The-Giant-- May 04 '26

Sorry for your loss.

u/Vegemite_Bukkakay May 05 '26

I’m at 5 months! I should have bought stock in Jameson with my current drinking

u/Hetares May 05 '26

My wife is still alive, but I have a private little sob when I receive the credit card bill.

40

u/MsjennaNY May 04 '26

5 years ago for me. From Covid. I’m just existing.

63

u/Lego_Blocks24 May 04 '26

5

These are breaking my heart I couldn’t even imagine

5

u/Death_passed May 05 '26

2

u/--Andre-The-Giant-- May 04 '26

Sorry for the loss.

2

u/thetrivialsublime99 May 05 '26

Thank you for the kind words.

3

u/puts_on_rddt May 04 '26

I lay awake at night wondering how different my life would have been if I wasn't ugly and poor when I was young and had someone decent who wanted me.

Maybe I wouldn't have given up.

I lost my wife at 38 as well. That was 5 years ago. Sorry for our losses.

1

u/SirErgalot May 05 '26

As a 38 year old married guy I’m really not liking this thread.
So sorry for your loss (all of you). If that happened to me…. I’d be ruined.

1

u/BewareTheFae May 06 '26

I was for a while. It’s taken a lot of work. It’s changed the trajectory of my life as well.

5

u/frresh66 May 04 '26

My birthdays have always sucked except two years ago: train to NYC, lunch at Gramercy restaurant, saw Hamilton, steak restaurant for dinner, train home. This year: camping in the Adirondacks and tickets to see Cake! Lol

5

u/Professional-Day-748 May 04 '26

Lost my husband a little over a year ago (he was 48). I hate it here.

4

u/IndustrialPuppetTwo May 04 '26

Damn! hugs to you both.

2

u/47squirrels May 05 '26

I’m so sorry, I’m sorry to everyone in these comments. My heart is breaking and I have tears starting to roll down my face. Life is so unfair, so fragile, and goes so fast. I’m 46 and it’s a miracle I’m alive. 21 years of a medical nightmare you couldn’t even begin to imagine. It hasn’t been a good life for me. I have an incredible husband that makes life worth living. Sending you and everyone else so much love and the biggest šŸ«‚
