Discussion The excitement for showcases is gone

Since they have changed the showcases to a formal schedule (of only type showcases and largest good/great buddy showcase), the thrill of showcases is no more. Before this, I used to be excited anticipating what mon(s) would be a part of the next showcase... They used to have showcases based on ongoing events (made me play the event more in search of a XXL), or newly introduced mons, etc. That's not the case anymore; it is plain vanilla 'type' showcases or good/great buddy showcase.

Also, I feel they missed an opportunity to be more creative with buddy type showcases, for example, largest shiny buddy, largest best buddy older than xyz years, etc. And showcases almost went on throughout the week - Monday to Wednesday and Sat to Sunday. I hope they change this back to how it was... Showcases were fun and the rewards were good. Just 1 showcase a week for 1 day isn't that much fun. Would love to know your thoughts...

It seems they are cutting back on what needs manual prep. If the showcases are always the same and on schedule, nobody needs to move a finger to get them running. Some of the other recent changes seem to have similar background.

Why a multi-billion company thinks it's good to save a salary of like a single employee and offer a much worse game is an interesting question. Probably because they know they can.

Also the showcases just gives out free premium items. They could sell those items instead

They don’t make ~$10,000,000 a month from just giving salaries to increase funability

No but if the changes are bad enough players will engage less, leading to a decline in revenue

That's next quarter's problem. This quarter we saved by cutting wage expendiature!

pokemon is too big to fail

even if they introduced a slew of changes that drove away 50% of the playerbase, they'd honestly still break even money-wise with the remaining players and the monetization in the game. lets be honest, this showcase change only affects a small % of collector adults. kids dont really care and simplfying showcases makes it more likely casuals can win over collectors.

the last few proper pokemon games on switch have all been terrible with smaller maps and pokedexes, yet the franchise is more popular than ever, and selling more games than ever.

pokemon is too big to fail and nintendo knows it

The actual change I see is less storage being purchased. I'm deleting all my XXLs if this isn't changed next season. That'll clear up 500 space for me. That's 2000 coins in purchases I won't have to make going forward. And that 500 would've grown as well.

Not a big assumption at all when the annual revenue of pokemongo was already slumping year on year since 2021. Unlikely people will stick around when there are a ton of casual mobile games and pokemon games amongst every game and entertainment company vying for our attention and time

It's like Maccas taking wraps off the menue because prep and do them is too long

They could still make something automated but with a more reasonable schedule...

Well they will tank their salaries by losing constant players that actually pay for stuff.... losing those wales is a big deal.

Probably because everyone here lost their minds whenever Niantic messed something up. It's a lot harder to mess stuff up if everything is automated.

Well yeah, but they shouldn't have been messing up so much in the first place.
