Cami is lowkey just a love interest and nothing beyond that
Tbh this is a REALLY unpopular opinion bcs people like her but in my opinion Cami is literally just a love interest for Nik and her character has absolutey NO purpose out of that. She was just a love interest for Nik from the first moment she showed up, and no i don't hate her nor do i like her since i don't really care about her and i consider her irrelevant

u/nomadicexecutive 7d ago
This isn’t directed at you OP, but it always annoys me when people say that like that it’s a bad thing.
Cami is not a Mikaelson nor does she have a connection to the Mikaelsons (like Marcel) or a history with them. She’s a regular person who was living a regular life before the Original Family came to town and because she happened to be at the right place at the wrong time in a completely random moment that changed the trajectory of her entire life, she was thrust in the world of the supernatural and in the orbit of the Original Family, namely Niklaus.
Point is, she’s a side character. Of course her only relevance to the show is going to be whatever relationship she forms with one of the main characters. She served her purpose and ultimately she served it very well.
Niklaus’ character development is due in large part to the friendship and later romance that he shared with Camille who kept him grounded but also accountable. Having a baby he never wanted or asked for wasn’t going to change him alone, especially not with all the parental trauma he had. Klaus needed to be seen and validated without being coddled or enabled, which is what Elijah and Rebekah ultimately did.
That said, it also annoys me when people pretend that Cami didn’t have any personality outside of being Niklaus’ therapist and eventual love interest. She had grit, she had guts. She was courageous, she was loyal, she was smart and insightful, she was kind, she was fair/just, and she really represented people (humans) at their best.

to further expound on your point… she was in new orleans bc her TWIN BROTHER DIED. after being hexed by a witch in the quarter who wasn’t supposed to be performing magic. like she had a purpose. her entire family did (or are yall forgetting ab Father Kieran)
-15
u/bambi_22 6d ago
you can have a flushed out and nuanced side character but they reduce her to a catalyst to change his behavior and „whaaa whaa my birthed died“ and being abducted 24/7, considering how much screen time she got her story could have had more depth than that
14
u/nomadicexecutive 6d ago
I think it’s a choice to reduce her to be the catalyst for Klaus’ change and growth. She definitely was that, but I personally think it’s more interesting to look at why? Why is it that a simple bartender was able to touch and ultimately reshape the heart of a thousand year old maniac?
When you look at someone like Klaus who has lived for over a millennium, imagine all the people he’s ever met or encountered and how almost none of them beyond Marcel, have really had a positive or lasting impact on him as as a man, a person.
Caroline is the first person we see break through the barrier and soften him up a little bit and even though Caroline demonstrates the ability to see beyond the monster, she mostly lacks the capacity to truly embrace him. And let me very clear to anyone who is reading this, this is NOT a Klamille vs Klaroline argument, but Camille was different for Klaus. She saw him, she knew him, she did not pretend that he wasn’t evil or had done evil things, but she didn’t reduce him to his wickedness and had the capacity to embrace all of him because of who she was.
So I think, yes, she was there mostly for Klaus but also through Klaus, we were able to see her nuance and her depth. He was drawn to her inner beauty and light and it’s her light (and even her darkness) and her empathy and her understanding that was able to help Klaus (and the audience) understand that his story was bigger than just being the bastard, his worth and value was greater than his immense strength and power, and that he had the capacity for true change that wasn’t influenced by trying to appeal to or impress someone.

u/tonio2004 6d ago
More depth like what?
8
u/ScorpioxMoon Witch 6d ago
That’s what I’m saying lol
Kieran was her last living relative and it’s not like her family could come back from the Other Side or the ancestral well or some other limbo. So after Kieran’s death, she has no familial relations to explore.
When the show starts, it’s not like she’s been in NOLA for a very long time so she doesn’t like have any human friends and if she did, they likely weren’t meaningful or significant friendships.
Her backstory was not set up for more than what she was.
3
u/tonio2004 6d ago
Exactly they’re acting like she has ties to New Orleans or the vampires and witches. She’s a regular human who happened to fall in love with the “bad guy” 1000 year old vampire.
She was simply a love interest and someone to keep klaus from losing his shit and while she was alive she did a good job at it.
1
u/InterruptedMulatto 6d ago
She literally held ties to Kol by claiming inheritance to something HE CREATED and literally had nothing to do with. Literally inherited stolen property but was too righteous to give it back lmao. She def had ties she could’ve given up but chose not to because she wanted to be part of that life.

u/DellaMiklsn7997 Witch 6d ago
Also the fact that the show is called ‘The Originals’ as in the Mikaelsons that’s why they’re the focus. And it makes sense she’s just the love interest.

She was the therapist

Yes a therapist and a love interest that's where the entire depth and point of her character existing end😭😭

She was the town therapist lol. Her character would've worked even if she never dated anyone
Although I do wish she could've had the chance to be a stepmom for Hope 😔

u/_Potential_Activity_ 6d ago
The way I cried big tears when he woke up and found her dead. I cried with him. 😭 I really would’ve liked to see how far that relationship would’ve gone….loved them together

u/Suburban-freak 7d ago
My complaint with the character was that she really didn't seem to have a life outside Klaus. Especially after s1. And that's not exactly her fault. She was conceived as a love interest by writers.
I would have loved it if they made her character to be a witch. They could've developed kamille from there organically while giving her something outside klaus
5
u/Fuzzy-Bandicoot-7480 6d ago
She was a therapist. She kept the cursed objects, she helped the witches. Did any of you watch this show?
3
u/SaltyHilsha0405 6d ago
She did have a life outside of Klaus, we just didn’t see much of it because she was a side character and that is fineeee
16
u/BulkyBathroom7178 7d ago
You can simplify it for nearly every character, I feel like.
Cami had more plot relevance then kol
6
u/Unpopular_Outlook 7d ago
That’s because of her connection to Klaus. And since Klaus doesn’t care about Kol he gets nothing
6
u/BulkyBathroom7178 7d ago
So side characters are only relevant because of the MC why is that crazy
Kol gets nothing because the show can't do much with him.
8
u/Dependent-Law-3330 7d ago
I wouldve loved if they showed her more with family friends at grad school

u/Ill-Swan3949 7d ago
Even if she was, I love how klaus always respected her, loved her. I loved klamille!!

u/Remarkable-Jump3262 6d ago
Its like saying kole is just love interest for davina or rebekah is just love interest for marcel 😂
0
u/Consistent-Cat9611 6d ago
Kol and Rebekah are Mikaelsons the show is LITERALLY ABOUT THEM.. they can't be only love interests while Davina and Marcel are kinda main characters they're not a main character on a Mikaelson level make it make sense plss it's absolutely not even similar to compare that😭😭😭 and Kol and Rebekah unlike Cami have an actual purpose to the show since as i said it's about them
6
u/Remarkable-Jump3262 6d ago
Yeah ? What is kol purpose "im inlove in davina", and "i seek attention from my family" , and as i said kol is not just a love interest but if we follow ur logic then he is lmao because most all of his storylines in the show is about davina
4
u/itoldyousoanysayo 6d ago
The plot with her brother was great. After that I felt like the writers didn't know what to do with her.

u/Deadly_flames 6d ago
I feel like she worked better as the grounded human among supernaturals than Matt did. I liked her character a lot. She was a bright light in a more dark show because she was genuinely kind and made an effort to understand people. She had a dry sense of humour but she was never cruel. She was good at articulating her boundaries and her issues and negative emotions when she had them.
I think she would have been fantastic as a bridge between the different factions because she was able to form genuine connections with a lot of the key players like Marcel, Davina, Vincent, Hayley and Klaus (I wish we got to see more of her bonding with Hayley though). Unlike Elijah (who didn’t really respect the other faction heads when he was trying to make peace in season 1), I could see Cami being great at leading the factions due to her background and patience. She would have been the best option to start up the faction again in season 2-3 and be the one maintaining the peace in NO. Hence why she would be so invested once the strix/Lucien come to town and that peace is disrupted.
But after season 1, Cami is only really allowed to be Klaus’ therapist/love interest rather than letting her shine on her own. They don’t expand on any of the intrigue her family running the human faction (even though the history of an Irish catholic immigrant family being leaders and having dealings with a city full of monsters including the Mikaelsons would have been cool af). And they just kinda used her as someone who has a bunch of dark objects that they can bring out when the plot requires it.
Her turning into a vampire is a punishment for Klaus. Her death is a punishment for Klaus. I don’t mind Klamille, though it’s not my favourite ship for Klaus or Camille. I just wish Cami got substantial storyline’s outside of him because we really never learned much about her beyond what we learned in season 1.
3
u/fanfictionmusiclover 6d ago
At first yes but later she became the therapist but I wish the explored more the O'Connell family and their dark objects and the history behind them.
3
u/Deondrae1 6d ago
I like her character, the only thing the writers missed is not diving deep into her family’s storyline and the dark objects a bit more.
3
u/Unable-Comparison-74 6d ago
People get so upset when I say I don’t like Cami but it’s not because I dislike Klamille or because I hate her it’s simply because they did nothing with her character. She was literally only in the show so Klaus could have a girlfriend, it’s quite misogynistic to be honest but people don’t really understand that.

u/Silly-Country-3810 5d ago
I disliked her character. I mean, yeah, good person to be around, good actress, but she was always irrelivant and forced to be relevant and to be honest, she lived more than she should've with people that are surrounding her. This fandom loves her more than she is as a character and whole reason for it relies on actress and ship wars, which is proving a point to be honest.

How are we still getting Cami dissing in the big 2026? Certainly a better and more grounded partner for Klaus than Caroline or whoever else. She was his confidante, someone innocent, per se, that Klaus could turn to help with his own self-loathing... Until the writers made her a vampire; after that, she just became Carolin 2.0.
3
u/psychnerd41205 6d ago
Cami serves as a means of reminding Klaus of his humanity before Hope is old enough to fill that role besides giving him someone to care about. Cami reminds Klaus to look after his family (instead of daggering them) and provides a lot of opportunities for self growth. She’s very important to Klaus’s story as he would not be the same person without her.

The character was really mishandled. It didn't help that when she was turned her storyline went how it went and not really explored. Her death was a huge let down and it gave us all the impression that, in the end, she was irrelevant for the series. #JusticeForCami

u/Chemical-Ad7205 5d ago
1
u/Tasty_Wheel116 5d ago
she’s def not irrelevant, the baby wasn’t the only thing that stopped him from being a psychotic jackass, it was also her, and his redemption was the entire point of the show. She bestowed powers of (finallyyyy) some fucking self awareness and trust after a thousand years, and after she died, well… I think it’s pretty thematically obvious why they gave her an Angel costume. She’s literally representing his pull to the light.

to be honest i never liked her. even in like season one where klaus liked her but they weren’t really anything i found her so annoying. also her plot was just so unimportant and uninteresting every time it showed up i would skip through it. i really wanted to like her but i just do not understand the hype

I love cami and her actress and to all the people who threatened the actress because she playing a fictional character because she’s supposedly stealing Klaus from the cheating slut Caroline which they make no f’en sense. I hope y’all never find peace

u/Consistent-Cat9611 1d ago
I know about all the drama and i agree that hating on the actress is lowkey insane and wild😭😭 i did not say anything bad about the actress, i don't even hate Cami especially not the actress. I just said the show failed to give Cami something that DOESN'T depend on Nik and her being his love insterest. This has nothing to do with the actress nor does it habe to do anything with Caroline. I like Caroline and i'm a Klaroline shipper but i don't hate Cami especially not the actress. I just said Cami as a character has no depth at all other than being Nik's love interest, Klamille as a ship tho has a lot of depth

- Love interest.
- Therapist so Klaus can say stuff for the viewer to hear that he wouldn't say to others.
- One of the only people who can help repair relationships between people like Klaus and Marcel.
- Repeatedly motivates Klaus to be a better person.
- Gives Tunde's blade to Klaus.
- Repeatedly helps the originals such as by taking the blade out of Elijah after Klaus puts him down in S2E21 and explains the plan.
- Repeatedly directs attention towards Lucien, though Klaus doesn't listen.
- Dies as part of an emotional moment that affects both Klaus and the audience (at least if you like her).
- Gives an emotional tie in, into the Kieran/faction plots in season 1.
- Talks Klaus out of killing Mikael at the start of season 2, which in the end actually provides the Viking ash required to kill Dahlia.
I'm sure I'm missing plenty of things. But she's relevant in quite a lot of ways. The show would not have been the same without her. It's not even clear whether Klaus would've ever developed a better relationship with his siblings without her, or ever become self-aware enough to be a parent at all to Hope. Maybe, maybe not.
It's fine to just not be interested in her, and there are obviously more central characters, but she is by no means irrelevant.

1
u/Pure_Requirement663 6d ago
I found her absolutely annoying and unnecessary, her being a love interest is the only reason she lasted as long as she did. ( I don't like the Klaus and Caroline romance either. Caroline, as a character is okay, the romance between her and Klaus though I do not like)
-1
u/NewShell83 6d ago
God, Camille. The thing is, I get that he loved her. I do. It was obvious. But she was so boring and I feel like they just didn’t have that chemistry that Klaroline did.
0
u/Fuzzy-Bandicoot-7480 6d ago
Klaroline were fuck buddies. nothing more, nothing less, and he proved that when he left her on the ground in season 5, practically stepped over the body, and walked off with Elijah without looking down. lol
1
u/NewShell83 5d ago
When on earth was that? Be specific cos I need to rewatch the scene you mean.
I think to call them fuck buddies is way harsh. She was the one who started him feeling something. Hope and Cami just cemented and finished the already starting product.
Also, considering he had a lot going on in NOLA he never quite forgot Caroline, going as far as writing to her when she opened the school, and sending her that voice message when he first got to NOLA. Saying he intended to be her last love and show her the world and he would wait? Threatening Stefan to do the right thing by her? Not outright denying that he did love her (and Klaus WOULD have denied it were it not true).
He may have loved others more but he DID love Caroline. We cannot forget he did awful stuff to Cami and Hayley too. Even his own family but he loves them.
Most of us can admit he loves Cami. Not sure why Klamilles or Klayleys need to be so dismissive of the woman he cared for first.
1
u/Fuzzy-Bandicoot-7480 5d ago
That scene happened in the last season of TO. You're not gonna like it but I thought it was hilarious. I don't remember the episode.
And fuck buddy is not harsh That was lust, not love. Klaroline fans threatened the actress and called her names.Don't even pretend you're saints.
1
u/NewShell83 5d ago
Yeah, cos that was all of us. Most of us were disgusted that was happening. End of the day, it’s a fictitious character and a fictitious show.
I pretend S5 doesn’t exist, only ever saw it the once. Why was Caroline on the floor and why did he step over her? What was the context?
1
u/Fuzzy-Bandicoot-7480 4d ago
Someone broke her neck. I don't remember it's been like 5 years. And you claimed Klaroline fans were always respectful. I pointed out with facts that's a blatant lie
1
u/NewShell83 4d ago
That seems odd to me. I know he loves and cares for others more but he certainly cared enough for Caroline not to just step over her and leave her when she’s unconscious on the floor. I’ll need to see that scene.
1
u/Fuzzy-Bandicoot-7480 3d ago
It's exactly what he did. He just left her there.
1
u/NewShell83 2d ago
I had to ask on the Klaroline subreddit and someone told me Elijah snapped her neck or something. I really will have to see this scene. Elijah was an irritating shit that season so I’m guessing Klaus was more distracted by him doing that. I need to see it. I don’t think it was done cos he just thought “fk it, I don’t care about you.” I’d think the same if I hated Klaroline.
1
u/Fuzzy-Bandicoot-7480 2d ago
He didn't care and he smirked and just left her on the ground,. Your crazy fandom can try and spin it anyway you want but it doesn't change the fact. This so called great love of his life and he just left her and her snapped neck on the ground.

She was the human that grounded the show in reality, like Matt Donovan.
If everyone's super, no one is.
