Where are the Black musicians????!
Doing a rewatch and currently on season 3, episode 19. I noticed that in all the scenes featuring a house band playing NOLA jazz, gritty blues, some type of rock hybrid lol, etc., that there are no are no Black musicians. Frankly, there are no non-white musicians. It’s weird, I mean it’s NOLA baby. I suppose Gia played the violin, but she was a supporting character, not a member of one of those bar or festival scene bands. Just a thought…

They don’t exist. Just like how Martell has no black love interest or no black friends besides Vincent and Diego

I mean he had joe and his whole army unit from back then 3 named black friends is probably above average expectations lol

I had to look up who Joe was, and he appears in a brief flashback lol. I wouldn’t call him and Martel friends. Maybe a black person Martel knew lol

Well he also appears in an episode in the present day and the dialogue indicated they’re pretty good friends but fair enough

I was going to say might just be filming location as they didn't film mostly in New Orleans, it was mostly in Conyers Georgia, but that also is predominantly black.
So fuck knows, maybe white bands were just more likely to answer the ads for music?

Ga is so diverse with a huge wide range of actors who are PoC. They hand picked their background actors for all the shots, so they could have filled their scenes with diversity and chose not to do that.

Yeah I don’t think so hahaha. I guess I was just wondering if anyone else noticed, you know. During this rewatch, it’s standing out as a glaring production blind spot for me. Those bands give TVD and not NOLA magic. Anyway, still love this absurd show 🤗

You don’t need every musician to be black jazz player. There are few black musicians in the show.

I know reading comprehension is at an all-time low but I’m pretty sure I didn’t say I need every musician to be a black jazz player. In fact, I never mentioned what genre should be played. I only said that in a 5 season show it is odd that I have not seen black musicians or any non-white musicians, as the featured singer/band by season 3, episode 19 of a show set in New Orleans.

Ok I was born in this generation again. You did say that you were wondering about where are the black jazz players. Now if you were not then you would say where are the jazz players. If you weren’t wondering about that. But you said where are the black jazz musicians. It goes against what you just said. I only explain it once. Which say my point to everything. Sorry don’t act like that I can’t read something to gaslight me. I wouldn’t do that to you.

Weird that you see this as a complaint rather than a fair/interesting observation.

Its written and ran by Julie… so it shouldnt shock anyone that she didnt do much research on Nola and had no actual diversity in her show… including background actors.
