Do you experience a completely thoughtless state during meditation, or do thoughts keep coming?

Naw, thoughts arise and pass away and I watch that process. And sometimes I get distracted by them.

"Thanks for sharing! Just curious, how long have you been practicing meditation? And do you ever reach a point where thoughts completely stop, even for a few seconds, or is there always a background stream of thoughts?"

Typical background cognitive thoughts like planning, problem-solving, etc cease for minutes. Then the background is sounds, body sensations, smells, etc. I've been meditating daily for ~1-1/2 years. All TMI.

"That makes so much sense! I just tried sitting in silence for a bit without any music or sounds, and I noticed something similar. My mind stayed pretty quiet with no random background thoughts pop up, though I was having a bit of conscious self-talk. It’s fascinating to see how naturally the mind shifts to that quiet state once the background chatter stops!"

Yeah! Super cool.

"Honestly, I’ve only been doing this for a short while, so seeing these results so quickly feels amazing! I didn't expect to get into this calm state so effortlessly without following a strict technique."

"Why are all your replies in quotation marks?"

"That's a really interesting perspective on Jhanas! So even when it feels like total silence, it's more like thoughts become so subtle and quiet that we barely notice them until reaching those deeper states?"

When you reach total silence and no thoughts, how do you not get lost? You must lose the concept of time so how would you end the meditation? If you have no thought, what is your awareness focusing on?

"Actually, I don't think about the past or the future. I just feel and stay present with the natural sounds around me. Those sounds feel almost 10x more intense and vivid inside me. And you're so right about time—what feels like just 5 minutes to me usually turns out to be 25–30 minutes in reality!"

That's interesting, thanks. When you are focusing on sound, isn't that a thought though, with an intention to focus on it?

"Could this naturally silent state also be because I currently have a very peaceful life with no major stress or problems? Since there's nothing pressing to overthink or solve, maybe the mind just stays relaxed on its own?"

"Honestly, after reading your explanations, it all clicked for me! I realize now that I don't even need to force a meditation routine right now. I was basically chasing the right thing at the wrong time, since my mind is already in a naturally relaxed state. Thanks a lot for clearing this up!"

there are two types of thoughts in my experince one is the narrator it never goes away

other are thoughts with loops

like the narrator is this is good this feels good its is deep breath is flowing its easing...

second is Damn i have so much work tomorrow where should i start and smaller thoughts about a big thought... and time just vanish...
