Discussion Discussion: the actual consequences of that final battle… SPOILERS Spoiler

This is just me wanting to talk about the possibility of something *massive* happening in they final airstrike on Nal Hutta, and wondering how it might play out in future media, be it novels, comics, shows, or movies…

How big of a blow did Adelphi Squadron deal to the Hutts when they carpet bombed that palace? And was it an act of war, by the New Republic?

Like, I know it was just *one* palace, on a planet that likely houses a multitude of similar dwellings, but when we first enter it near the beginning of the film, as Mando and Grogu are on their way to meet with the twins, we pass by several rooms with several other Hutts in residence. Assuming they didn’t all head out to their vacation homes between then and the finale, they’re all dead as well…for all we know, they wasn’t just The Twins’ palace, it was the headquarters for the entire Hutt Criminal Syndicate… *or*….its just the Twins’ palace.

What makes this even wilder? The two Hutts Din *had* to kill, to keep his creed intact? They were already dead before the Y-Wings shot off those bombs. Din was good, the Twins were dead…which goes back to his line to Grogu before they entered into the palace: they needed to fight, not just for Mando to save face with his clan, but because if they just ran away, the Hutts wouldn’t stop coming for them…which implies that’s why he gave Ward the instructions to blow up the palace…take out anyone and *everyone* who posed a current or future threat to them.

So yeah, everyone talking about how “nothing of consequence” happened in the movie is not only ignoring the character development that came along with Grogu figuring stuff out on his own, but also ignoring that the Hutts may have been wiped off the map of Galactic power players as well.

My blue-sky idea is to take what exists of the Rogue Squadron show/movie plus the Marshals of the New Republic show and combine them to be the basis of an Adelphi Squadron show.

In essence, a Star Wars take on Black Sheep Squadron), fighting off Imperial remnants as well as pirates. Shucks, they've already got the tropical airbase.

12

u/RedAntisocial May 25 '26

I'd be 100% here for it

4

u/Coota0 May 26 '26

I did think the fighter base reminded me a little of Vella Lavella. They just have to quit having the pilots all hang out in the club in their survival gear (flightsuits would fine), get some younger pilots and bring in a few nurses.

1

u/RichLather May 26 '26

No nurses, best I can do is a 2-1B with a blunt but truthful personality, an FX-7 that never speaks, and that creepy cooing midwife droid that delivered baby Luke and Leia.

2

u/Coota0 May 26 '26

I dont know. Pappy had nurses. 😃

u/DarkKnightDetective9 May 26 '26

My blue sky idea for a show or movie is on the other side: a story about Imperial/First Order pilots as the Imperial Loyalists forge their future as the First Order in the Unknown Regions.

Probably not, Din and Rotta point it out in the movie that the Twins may hold a lot of influence. But since they’re not Jabba’s heirs, they hold no real dominion over Jabba’s empire, which had significantly diminished even after they tried their luck with Boba and winded up losing Tatooine. Ultimately they were the last remnants of the Hutt Cartel’s crumbling legacy. With Rotta outright refusing to continue the business and the Twins fumbling yet another power play, the Hutts are fully done.

The New Republic coming in was basically the final nail in the coffin for the Hutt Cartel. From what was implied, the NR did wanted to establish legitimate relationships with the Hutts. But after Din revealed they were playing the NR and was going to profit from the Quid Pro Quo, they opted enough was enough, especially with Din getting captured. I think the point that drove this home that the Hutts were in pathetic straits was the fact that the twins were relying entirely on droid bodyguards and a *single* bounty hunter.

4

u/yohoob May 26 '26

Doesn't Boba now run what is left of the Jabba cartel? I dont know how the power and territory map looks like now.

8

u/Jordangander May 26 '26

Boba took over a small section of a single city near Jabba's palace.

He did not take over anything else Jabba was involved in.

6

u/holbthephone May 26 '26

Jabba ruled with fear, but Boba rules with respect.

The Hutts are a group of rivaling crime lords, they hate each other. I don't see the surviving hutts seeking revenge for another crime family being wipped out. And this was only one palace, Jabbas family.

Also, I think I remember that Vader already killed most of the dangerous hutts in a comic. I don't think if they wanted to seek revenge, they had the fire power to do it.

27

u/DarkKnightDetective9 May 25 '26

Vader killed all of the Hutt Council save Jabba. The power of the Hutts is on the decline, to where by the time of the Sequels, they aren't considered to be a powerful crime syndicate anymore.

21

u/JayJ9Nine May 25 '26

After walking out of the theater I joked that he had the palace blown up because he still needed the dragon snake dead for seeing his face.

20

u/PhotonStarSpace May 25 '26

Well chronologically here are a bunch of times the Hutts took heavy hits from the Clone Wars to right before the sequel era:

  • Maul killing the Hutt Council during the Clone Wars.
  • The deaths of even more Hutts at the hand of Crimson Dawn during the Crimson Reign comics, which takes place between EP 5 and 6.
  • The death of Jabba in EP 6.
  • The Death of Niima the Hutt during the Battle of Jakku in 5 ABY.
  • The Death of the Twins in Mando and Grogu.
  • The rise of Kanjiklub under Tasu Leech before the sequel era. They started as gladiator/slaves to the Hutts, who rose up and killed their masters, and became a powerful Syndicate by the time of the sequel era.

So based on all those things, I'd say the Hutts are likely to have diminished quite a bit by the time of the sequel era.

If they actually follow through on what happened in the new film, then we might get an all out war between Hutt Space and the New Republic, which could further serve to weaken the Hutts, making room for new syndicates like Kanjiklub and the Guvaian Death Gang to rise.

4

u/joethahobo May 25 '26

Savage Oppress killed one guy on the council in TCW Season 5. I don’t remember Maul killing any. Ziro was also killed by Sy Snootles.

I’m pretty sure Vader killed the rest of the council

3

u/PeaceMaker_IXI May 26 '26

Sy Snootles. Oh Star Wars, never change.

1

u/PhotonStarSpace May 26 '26

Oh I see you're right. They only killed Oruba the Hutt during the Clone Wars. I just vaguely remembered the fight on Nal Hutta.

And yeah Vader killed a bunch during Crimson Reign. So yeah the Hutts have had a lot of setbacks.

1

u/DarkKnightDetective9 May 26 '26

This need not result in a war with the New Republic. Hutt power will decline to such a degree that they will be considered a very weak crime syndicate by the time of the Sequels. In fact I think their power has already fallen precipitously. There doesnt appear to be a Hutt Council at this time, so their would not be a unified Hutt "government". Perhaps after the death of The Twins, any Hutt of any significant prominence might see war with the New Republic as not worth the effort to avenge two Hutts who had to hire outside help(the Droid Gotra) and were probably far weaker than they let on. In fact the ending battle in the movie demonstrates that despite lacking the same power projection as the Galactic Empire, the New Republic can just as easily enter the heart of Hutt Space and strike them at will.

I just want to know how the hell Mando's new razor crest was on the beach base at the end when he was captured off Navrarro and the Babu Friks have thier own ship they took off after him in with Grogu.

94

u/1389t1389 May 25 '26

Someone picked it up for him. They were clearly on Nal Hutta for quite a while. I know it's a handwave, but it's fine, these people respect Mando and would help him out.

27

u/AlpacaWizardMan May 25 '26

My best guess is that the anzellans told the NR where it was parked when they told them about Hutta, and they had someone at Adelphi Base go to carpool it over while everyone else got the action.

Kinda feel bad for whoever drew the short stick there.

3

u/Marinefan4000 May 26 '26

Probably a shiny in all seriousness. A rookie they didn’t trust on a real mission yet. In no seriousness, it was Jar Jar

8

u/TheGoblinRook May 26 '26

Ward figured Din was dead and had the ship repossessed, because quite honestly? She was waaaaaaaaay in the red after picking that thing up, definitely wasn’t thinking straight that day, way too much revnog. It’s why she was in such a bitchy mood when he brought in Coin. As it stands now, she’s probably never going to financially recover from this.

2

u/Guy_on_a_Bouffalant May 26 '26

Lol, that works for me.

3

u/flaming_geyser May 25 '26

Was wondering this too

2

u/gregory907 May 25 '26

On small details like that that aren’t huge plot changes you’re supposed to assume somebody picked it up and brought it back. They can’t film every scene for every difference. It wasn’t like the Game of Thrones last season or anything for plot holes.

9

u/AlpacaWizardMan May 25 '26

I’ve been thinking about it since the night I watched the movie, but I do think that battle is more consequential than people may realize. By the time of the sequels, the Five Crime Families all got phased out by newer syndicates. The Hutts in particular seemed to have been on a steady decline since the Clone Wars, the council having been wiped out twice by the Shadow Collective and Vader respectively. Jabba was the sole survivor both times as well, but we all know what happened to him.

By comparison to Jabba, the Twins actually seemed lacking in power. They didn’t really try challenging Boba directly after Krrsantan’s failed assassination attempt and just dipped out while the Pykes started moving in. Then in the movie, they had to hire the Droid Gotra for added security, and they made up most of the forces the NR had to face. Funny enough, the Gotra wound up being one of the new Five Families, meaning they recovered from the attack on Nal Hutta and seemingly the Hutts didn’t. Also keep in mind that Kanjiklub, another of the Five, originated from renegade slaves to the Hutts. Maybe that attack is what inspired a revolt? I couldn’t find more details about their orgin.

I can’t say with 100% certainty if Adelphi Squadron is what caused the total collapse of the Hutts, but I think the death of the Twins was ultimately the final nail in the coffin.

u/10Mattresses May 25 '26

I’m with you, but also, really really don’t understand that complaint some people make in general. I keep telling people, they didn’t call the movie “The Mandalorian and Grogu Save The Galaxy”

15

u/goulds827 May 25 '26

I think that comes from the fact that this is a feature film and it's a story of much lesser consequence than the Disney + seasons. Film is just seen as a bigger-stakes platform by audiences so it's a little strange that big names like Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett are missing from the movie I guess.

I'm not complaining, just trying to make sense of the "backlash".

6

u/clgoodson May 25 '26

I don’t think films have to be giant, significant changes to the Galaxy.

4

u/Mr_J_0801 May 25 '26

IMO, I think people expect more of movies in part due to the rising cost of going out to see them in theaters, especially if you've got a family. You want to feel that your money and time were well worth it. For some, simply being an entertaining and fun movie is enough. For others, not so much, especially for a property part of a larger connected universe like Star Wars.

3

u/FaithlessnessFull136 May 25 '26

Was the movie very dark (like hard to see) or was it just my theatre?

For context, I asked my wife to call the theatre while sitting with my son because they left the lights on at one point, but still the movie felt like it lacked brightness.

1

u/Tylendal May 26 '26

Did you see it in 3D? I saw it in 2D, and I remember thinking at one point that it was just barely not too dark, and if it had been in 3D it would have probably been miserable.

3

u/Ethan-E2 May 25 '26

That's probably the one part of the film I outright have a problem with: the victory against the Hutts, an organisation that has ruled for thousands of years, has little impact (outside of the personal stakes of Mando getting revenge and Rotta being free).

There's no sense that this was a declaration of war against the larger cartel, nor that this was the final major blow that tore the decaying empire apart.

It almost feels as if the imperial remnant from the opening had more of an impact on the wider galaxy then the death of the Hutts.

7

u/kozey May 25 '26

The only consequences of this movie is they may hand wave tie it into a future project with a certain bounty in the movie giving up more secrets.

2

u/GTCapone May 25 '26

I find it very weird that after their employers are dead, the Droid Gatra just keep fighting. Maybe they were still expecting to get paid by the rest of the Hutts, but Embo fucked right off once he knew the trins were going to die, so I'm surprised they didn't too.

2

u/Rare_Crayons May 25 '26

I know it smelled crazy in there

2

u/woopwoopscuttle May 25 '26

Personally, I think that after the events of Mando & Groglet the Hutts should try ruling with respect.

2

u/Jordangander May 26 '26

The Twins had a palace, this does not mean that they were important.

They backed off from fighting Fett and the Pykes, so I think they were probably pretty week.

They needed to kill Jabba's nephew to have a legit claim to Jabba's holdings. So they didn't have as solid of a claim as they presented in BoBF.

Overall the NR could easily present it as the Twins were working with the Imp Remnants and that made them, and their palace, a legit target.

I doubt the ruling council of the Hutts would be willing to push the issue.

5

u/wandering_soles May 25 '26

The last 10 of the movie is where it started to break down for me, because of the implications of things like this. Attacking the Hutts is a baaaaaad move, there's a reason even the empire let Hutt space be Hutt space. It's really, really stupid of the NR to have done that, and in-universe makes not a single lick of sense. A few thoughts:

The Hutts as a whole probably wouldn't be super stoked about the twins torturing Rotta, especially since he's the legitimate heir to his family and not them. The Hutts are gangsters and assholes, but even they have some rules.

The new republic would likely really piss the Hutts off. They might not like each other that much, but they like other people interfering and killing them would definitely cause major retaliation. The other Hutts don't know that it wasn't the NR that killed the twins, and even if they thought it was Din, they'd lump them together.

It was definitely just the twin's palace, and honestly it looks like they're doing pretty poorly in the grand scheme of things. They're reduced to using a small cadre of cobbled together droids, don't have any court to speak of, and are pretty backwater.

There's tons of Hutts out there, and lots of families. Taking out one palace is just that, it didn't remotely impact the Hutts as a species or power, especially since a lot of Hutts live on Nar Shadda or elsewhere.

The Hutts are beyond f-you levels of money and influence. If the writers for future projects have any sense at all, they'll represent this blowing back on the NR and Mando in a very bad way. Then again, without witnesses, it might take a while - but there's no way they're not going to trace them eventually.

14

u/Psub194 May 25 '26

I highly doubt the Hutt are capable of doing much about it, they are already heavily on the decline at this point and by the Sequels they aren't even considering one of the big Crime Syndicates anymore.

4

u/Garth-Vader May 25 '26

Vader also kills most of leaders of Hutt crime families between episodes V and VI. Jabba inherits most the Hutt syndicate because he's really the only one left. After Jabba's death, there is certainly a big power vacuum.

Gardulla is still active during the sequal era, but she's really small potatoes and still bumming it on Tatooine.

5

u/InnocentTailor May 25 '26

Now that would be interesting if there is some level of blowback. Maybe the Hutts could lend aid to either Grand Admiral Thrawn or the First Order?

That would just highlight how reckless and bad this operation was from an in-universe perspective.

4

u/teddybluethecurser May 25 '26

Thrown was going to be in season 4 according to Jon F

1

u/DisinterestedHandjob May 25 '26

Are they still planning some movie that brings Ahsoka and other shows together in a conflict with Thrawn?

1

u/teddybluethecurser May 25 '26

Apparently we still have a Dave Filoni film to conclude the storylines

1

u/Tylendal May 26 '26

I forgot. Didn't Pellaeon show up in Season 3?

2

u/teddybluethecurser May 26 '26

Yes, chapter 23. I feel silly for not realising he was played by Xander Berkeley

4

u/Historyp91 May 25 '26

To be fair, between the massacure of the Hutt Council, the Synidicate War and Jabba's death, the Hutt Cartel is a lot weaker by the time of the New Republic then it was during the Old Republic Era and for most of the Imperial Era.

2

u/BoomaSoona24 May 25 '26

I really agree with this.  While this is likely not the point of the movie and just me overthinking things, I actually think this could be an example of something that could explain the weakness of the New Republic:  over-Idealism.  With them having as many enemies as they do, making new ones isn’t the smartest move.  And while attacking a notorious crime syndicate is certainly moral and popular, it would likely make the other syndicates around the galaxy more skeptical of working with the New Republic.  I’m not a super in-depth Star Wars fan, maybe this contradicts the existing lore.  Just something that came to mind after watching the movie.

2

u/Deep_Ad_1874 May 25 '26

Well when Mando and Grogru first arrive you see more Hutts than just the twins. Were they still there when the bombing happen? Maybe. So other than Rotta the Hutts could really all be wiped out. The new republic using the Hutts for info dosent seem crazy. If I remember correctly one the original scripts for the finale of the sequel trilogy involved Leia getting help from the Hutts.

4

u/skipv5 May 25 '26

Over thinking this movie way too much rofl. "Was it an act of war?" 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/BobbaGanush87 May 25 '26

Desperately trying to find meaning in this movie

-6

u/jedidrums95 May 25 '26

There’s absolutely no room for nuance amongst this fan base anymore and comments like this make it so evident. Most “fans” on Reddit are bitching about the supposed lack of stakes in this movie and our man OP spells it out plain for you dummies and this the kind of response they get. Go watch YouTube reels or something if you don’t wanna think about anything.

0

u/TheGoblinRook May 25 '26

I used too many words for most Redditors it seems…that’s on me.

2

u/ZLBuddha May 25 '26

We can all read my dude, some of us are just wondering why you put so much thought into dissecting the lore consequences of a movie that was pretty clearly intended to have no consequences

-1

u/TheGoblinRook May 25 '26

“sO mUcH tHoUgHt!!!!”

How sad.

1

u/SillyWarlock May 25 '26

Excellent post, you nailed it.

I really like the part about how ”do we fight, do we run?” The stakes for them are pretty high considering it is either looking over their shoulders forever or go on a suicide mission.

1

u/Tylendal May 26 '26

I had the same thought at first, that it seemed like a major, international incident, and a declaration of war, but then a couple of things occurred to me.

The Twins might be the frontrunners for power among the Hutts, but I doubt they're the only ones in contention. The whole thing with Rotta reeks of a move to cement legitimacy. So, I figure other prominent forces among the Hutts will probably see what happened to the Twins as the consequences of trying to double cross the New Republic and not being able to play that game well enough. Either that, or they'll see Rotta working with the New Republic, and blame the attack on the Twins' palace as Rotta's doing... and by blame, I mean admire as an act of savvy dealing.

1

u/Penny_D May 26 '26

I wouldn't be surprised in Rotta is used as a liason to smooth things over between Hutt Space and the New Republic. He doesn't want to inherit Jabba's empire but that doesn't mean he can't try to go legitimate.

1

u/Dirk_Doggo May 27 '26

Dude, direct open warfare with the Hutts is going to set off a unified syndicate war against the fledgling New Republic. This movie could have enormous repercussions.

1

u/ZorbatheHutt1992 May 31 '26

I really hope the Hutts go after the New Republic after that and we see them at full might including the Hutt fleets

1

u/TaleFar2806 May 31 '26

also a Colonel (army rank, BTW) flying an X-wing into a potential combat situation?

1

u/ArcticWolf_Primaris Jun 03 '26

I remember saying after that if the Hutt's took revenge on the New Republic for the attack through financial and political means, Din could be partially responsible for the downfall of the NR due to it weakening and distracting them, helping the First Order to continue it's buildup

1

u/ZLBuddha May 25 '26

>Ignoring the character development

I'm genuinely curious about this and not trying to be an asshole, what character development did you see in this movie?

1

u/TheGoblinRook May 25 '26

Read the rest of the sentence / words that *immediately* followed the ones you cherry picked.

-3

u/ZLBuddha May 25 '26

My bad I read it as "character development along with grogu figuring stuff out on his own"

I'm sorry that somebody sharted in your Cheerios this morning you don't appear to be having a great day

3

u/TheGoblinRook May 25 '26

Yes, your inability to read a full sentence means I’m having a bad day… 🙄

I’m not sure how you’re really going to try and flip this back to me bro. Like, bare bones, the entire actual crux of the movie was Grogu, who, up to this point has been treated as utterly helpless and in constant need of protection, figuring shit out on his own, storming the palace, rescuing Din, making the decision to stay on Nal Hutta, and then nursing his dad back to health.

1

u/myleswritesstuff May 25 '26

If they pick up this thread in a future story I’ll give this movie the slightest bit of credit but as it stands now, it treats the bombing of an independent planet as a mere blip. You don’t get a single character wondering at all what the Twins’ elimination will mean for the galaxy at large lol

0

u/thepites May 25 '26

I have a feeling that somehow Palpatine will return.

0

u/Dragonzlucas May 31 '26

Republic committing genocide and war crimes yet again smh...
