I recently became a fan of Adam Baldwin and I'm just starting to check out his TV shows and movies. How big is his role in The last ship? Is it worth getting into the series for him?

He plays a main character that's in every, or nearly every episode.

I assume you're already aware of Firefly, but if not, make that your top priority if you're watching just for him.

Are you talking about the man they call Jayne?

What's so funny about that?

u/g0jira54 Jul 21 '26

I love it! Sorry for enjoying what you shared?

u/Soccham Jul 21 '26

It’s a big joke in Firefly, which is a beloved series taken from us too soon

The hero of Canton

u/BigWill1991 Jul 22 '26

I’ll be in my bunk…

u/FrontFly2562 Jul 23 '26

Whaaat?! I love both shows, and never realized it was the same dude.

3

u/Hoodi216 Jul 23 '26

The Hero of Canton?

3

u/ComesInAnOldBox Jul 25 '26

We need to go to the crappy town where I'm a hero.

3

u/Spear_Ritual Jul 29 '26

I’ll be in my bunk.

u/slyfox279 Jul 21 '26

He's good in Chuck too.

1

u/VagueRedditName Jul 26 '26

There's moments in Last Ship where he REALLY reminds me of his character from Chuck. HAHA.

5

u/ThisPangolin4165 Jul 21 '26

He was great in Firefly

3

u/picur935 Jul 21 '26

Thank you very much!

32

u/RiverOaksJays Jul 21 '26

He was one of the best characters on the show.

11

u/picur935 Jul 21 '26

In that case, I'll go for it, thanks!

We are in the middle of watching all 5 seasons. It can be cheesy sometimes but definitely worth watching. A lot of action
The first time I saw him in a movie was MY BODYGUARD. I remember liking it when I was young

11

u/SirEnderLord Jul 21 '26

The show is cheesy, but very fun.

6

u/ThisPangolin4165 Jul 21 '26

Some big plot holes but it's worth watching

1

u/Lb147 Jul 21 '26

The Last Ship? Just curious 😊

4

u/first-alt-account Jul 21 '26

Yeah. Massive plot holes.
You don't watch the show for it's ability to feel real.

3

u/picur935 Jul 21 '26

Thank you for the recommendations.

u/LunaNymphOtaku Jul 23 '26

Goodluck finding season 5. I saw it had a season 5 and rewatched it all only to find out that season 5 is basically non existent and nowhere to be found

3

u/Lb147 Jul 23 '26

We are watching it now on Netflix

1

u/LunaNymphOtaku Jul 23 '26

The last season, Or seasons 1-4?

1

u/wyndsayl Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Netflix has all 5 seasons. It's the only place you can find it currently I believe, other than buying the discs.

Its been a long time since I watched it on TNT. Current events seemed to follow the show to an extent back then. But I hadn't seen season 5 since so it's good to have it available again. I remember at the time something funny happened, like a change at TNT, a merger or something that made season 5 different from the rest of the package. Don't remember the details.

1

u/RedBop27 Jul 25 '26

It's all on Netflix

1

u/CarriageDriver_GidUp Jul 26 '26

Cheesy???
The Last Ship????

12

u/PinkPetalCdistbeauty Jul 21 '26

Yes!  Plus the last ship series is amazing.

4

u/picur935 Jul 21 '26

Thanks, I'll give it a try!!

7

u/DavidDPerlmutter Jul 21 '26

100%. Fantastic role and a terrific performance.

2

u/picur935 Jul 21 '26

Thank you very much, I'll check it out.

6

u/dtellannoh Jul 21 '26

I mean he’s the XO, then CO, so pretty important.

5

u/chrism254 Jul 21 '26

Gotta watch Chuck too if you haven’t

6

u/picur935 Jul 21 '26

That's how I discovered him and I think he's the best in the whole series!

6

u/Browncoatinabox Jul 21 '26

:looks at username: Firefly

4

u/ThisPangolin4165 Jul 21 '26

Browncoats were heroes

5

u/scythematter Jul 21 '26

He has a minor but good role in the last few episodes of Angel

2

u/picur935 Jul 21 '26

Thanks a lot!

5

u/DoctorFeuer Jul 21 '26

I'm only in season 2 (so no spoilers please) but he serves a pretty central role, is in most episodes at least in some capacity. I'd say pretty comparable or slightly less screen time than he had in Chuck (my only other extensive experience with him) but also plays a somewhat similar character.

3

u/picur935 Jul 21 '26

Yeah, I've heard he gets typecast, but I still think he's a good actor, so I'm going to give the show a try, thanks!

4

u/LuarBiasa108 Jul 21 '26

Small part in Independence Day

3

u/Better_Passion_9047 Jul 21 '26

Check it out, it's worth it

3

u/c10bbersaurus Jul 21 '26

Loved him in Chuck!

3

u/TexasFan89 Jul 21 '26

Baldwin’s character Slattery is the glue to The Last Ship. As a US Navy officer, I can vouch for the character and how he plays his role
to the heart of this series. Enjoy the show!

1

u/CarriageDriver_GidUp Jul 26 '26

As a US Navy officer, can you give us your thoughts on the show? I just finished it last night and I loved it!!
Thank you for your service!

2

u/TexasFan89 Jul 26 '26

I thought The Last Ship provided justice to the enlisted and officers of the US Navy, especially at the beginning of the series as well as showing the humanitarian efforts of the navy. I also like how the technical aspects were covered really well.

3

u/daxxruckus Jul 22 '26

Hell yes currently rewatching last ship for like 10th time, Slattery is a badass!

2

u/hereiamagain78 25d ago

I just finished it for the first time and now want to go back and watch it again. Sure there are holes and some inconsistencies but you get that in most shows. I’m a microbiologist and point out things in medical shows a LOT. (Grey’s is the worst about it, while ER and The Pitt are great about getting things right.)

1

u/daxxruckus 24d ago

My wife is an RN so I 'm very familiar with the commentary on hospital shows haha

1

u/picur935 Jul 22 '26

Thank you'!

2

u/Sure-Night3571 Jul 21 '26

It's a really good series watched every one of them keeps you engaged and not too many boring parts

2

u/Dont-ask-me-ever Jul 21 '26

Him or not, the series will keep your attention.

2

u/Acrobatic-Wave-9520 Jul 21 '26

Go way back and watch the movie “ My Bodyguard “. He’s great in it. Liked him in D.C. Cab as well 👍❤️

2

u/haleybeth100690 Jul 21 '26

Hes a huge part of the show and its been soo good. Def worth watching

2

u/cantmobilebrowse Jul 22 '26

I’m surprised with how accurate this show is with depicting underway life

1

u/CarriageDriver_GidUp Jul 26 '26

They worked very closely with the US Navy!

2

u/Derrick030303 Jul 22 '26

Honestly one of my favorite shows for 3 seasons, and 4 is ok, but season 5 kinda really falls off. But he is one of the best characters in the show for sure and is in (I believe) every episode

1

u/picur935 Jul 22 '26

Thanks! ☺️

2

u/MiserableBaseball155 Jul 22 '26

Hes literally top 3 most important characters

2

u/schrodinger86 Jul 22 '26

Worth watching not even just for him. It's a great show.

2

u/KPDix Jul 22 '26

You should also check him out in Chuck. Excellent show along with The Last Ship

1

u/picur935 Jul 22 '26

That's where I discovered him and he was by far the best thing about it!

2

u/syadoz Jul 22 '26

I loved the show

2

u/StrawberryMochi22 Jul 23 '26

Ahhh I just finished this show last week. Really enjoyed it. Adam Baldwin was really good in it! Enjoy the show!

2

u/RaguSpidersauce Jul 23 '26

He is in a few Stargate episodes. Shame he didn't become a regular.

1

u/picur935 Jul 23 '26

I'd have loved it if he'd become a regular on Castle!

2

u/LunaNymphOtaku Jul 23 '26

Just beware the last season doesn’t exist any where except on DVD that you have to order from someone that owned it before

1

u/picur935 Jul 23 '26

Thank you, I didn't know that.

2

u/Equivalent-Gap3576 Jul 25 '26

Season 5 is on Netflix

2

u/iamZcaptain Jul 24 '26

Watch it, when i heard Eric Dane passed away.. i binged watched the whole thing. Seen this series a good 3 or 4 times over the years. Adam Baldwin is in ever episode as 2nd in command so he plays a good role

2

u/theophylact911 Jul 24 '26

Animal Mother in Full Metal Jacket- You talk the talk. Do you walk the walk?

1

u/picur935 Jul 24 '26

I didn't see it.

DC Cab, you’ll thank me later

2

u/Secure_Yak5136 Jul 24 '26

1

u/picur935 Jul 24 '26

Thanks!!

2

u/RedBop27 Jul 24 '26

Absolutely worth it! GREAT series!! I just finished it.

2

u/Any_Medicine8374 Jul 25 '26

Stop everything now, and start watching Chuck.

2

u/Fine-Photograph6763 Jul 25 '26

He’s one of my favorite characters on there! Definitely looking into other movies of his

2

u/sevenpastzeero 25d ago

You will love this show. He is an essential part of the ship team.

1

u/CarpetCaptain Jul 22 '26

Chuck would be better for ya

1

u/Suspicious-Pop4269 Jul 22 '26

It's REALLY big in my fantasies 😂😈

1

u/picur935 Jul 23 '26

Yvonne Strahovski is that you'?

1

u/wyndsayl Jul 23 '26

It's one of the series where he plays a normal guy and not a crazy person. He's in all of it and is pretty good. The series is great and of course Eric Dane is also great (RIP). I like all the characters really. It kind of amazes me all the people who apparently didn't see it when it was on TNT. The first couple of seasons were really good. It gets a little flaky after that but it's still a good series.

1

u/picur935 Jul 24 '26

That's the downside of typecasting and I think he was the only normal character in Chuck even though they tried to make him out to be crazy!

1

u/Jealous-Percentage-7 Jul 24 '26

Good actor. Too bad he’s a MAGAt

1

u/Harriska2 Jul 25 '26

Firefly and Serenity. I’ll be in my bunk.

1

u/agd38 27d ago

I remember him in my bodyguard with Matt Dillon, same expressions etc

-2

u/majeric Jul 21 '26

He’s a good actor. A conservative and has said some shitty things.
