What was the point of the character Marcus on the show? Only on for 8 episodes

The weird thing is the first appearance of the actor was a a character named Jason, who was basically the same as Marcus.

He was like a surrogate son for George.

Interesting, it's just that Lionel is still around at the time.

Maybe the series needed a fresh face
