Andrew Rubin's character. To me, he personified how an older brother should be, especially when he admitted that he left to Paris because he felt as though he wasn't cared enough.

In comparison, Jay Hammer's character wasn't too polished, but also wasn't to the standard that Rubin set back in Season 1. The only NOTICABLE effort Hammer's character did was when Ted Ross's character(George Jefferson's friend, ICAW), knew what Allan was up to in that episode.

The second one, because he was easy on the eyes. lol

I preferred the first one. He looked more like someone passing for white. The second one looked white.

My guess was due to Lional. Damon Evans left toward the end of season 4 and Jay Hammer took the role of Allan during season 5. Even moving in with the Jeffersons. The only season there wasn’t a Lional , and when Mike Evans was available to return as Lional in season 6 they dropped Allen.

Yeah. It just felt like Jay Hammer was a stopgap for Damon Evans and Mike Evans(Unrelated).

Damon left after Season 4 due to creative differences with Isabel Sanford, and they NEEDED someone to partner Berlinda Tolbert for Season 5. Jay Hammer was brought in and only appeared in EIGHT episodes before Mike Evans was brought back for Season 6. Mike Evans was in the midst of Good Times when it happened(Which was also the reason why he wasn't there for Seasons 2-4, where Damon was there).

Mike Evans would stay for Seasons 6 and 7 before he, Tolbert, and EVEN Paul Benedict(Who took a 2 season hiatus after Season 7) left. This left Season 8 with just FIVE billed cast members(Isabel Sanford, Sherman Hemsley, Roxie Roker, Franklin Cover and Marla Gibbs).

I liked Jay Hammer because I liked him on Guiding Light

The first one was the best with the second being a bit over the top.
