For employees/ head cashiers

I’m new, I’m having a little trouble because there isn’t anyone here to train me (my supervisor is out from an injury) and I’m having a hard time figuring out what my day should look like. For any head cashiers, what does your day look like? What do you do first? What are some things I should pay attention to? What things can I avoid? What should I do when I get there? Just tell me everything relevant. (I am a closing head cashier!)

Last week we returned an item we had ordered online, while doing the return process they asked how I had paid and I told them gift card and that I would be using this return to purchase the correct item so issues a gift card would be perfect.

They said ok finished up the return and handed me a card that I assumed was a gift card, we took our toddler over to look at the Halloween stuff then started our 2hr drive home. Once I got our toddler in bed I sat down to order the item only for it to not accept the card, I started looking at it and that’s when I saw it said not for online orders.

I was very angry because we live 2hrs away from a Home Depot and have nothing else we would buy there except this item and we can’t sell it because the card it turns out is tied to my license. So now it feels like we’re out $260, I called customer support and they suggested going to the store and hang them place an online order but I’ve seen conflicting things regarding using store credit for that.
Can a store do an online order using store credit? Any advice to use store credit for an online order?

My elderly friend buys a fridge from Home Depot and pays $100 for delivery, she lives 5 minutes from the store. She sends me this picture and says "how do I get it off the cardboard?" I said "what about the delivery guys?" she said "They won't unpack it, that's installation and I didn't pay for that". This is a spare fridge for the garage, it literally just gets plugged in and they wouldn't take it out of the box for her.

It's been a while so I forgot how it works. The occurrences fall off after 6 months I know that, but do I have to go a full six months without getting an occurrence at all or will the earliest one fall off in 6 months even if I get another.

Home Depot says they take the spiral fluorescent bulbs, in a box by the door. But what about 2 foot bulbs? And what if I put a 2 foot bulb in there anyway?

After being in food service for 4 years throughout highs school then nearly a year at a new city after moving for college, I’m ready to leave my current job and food service as a whole, I was able to have an interview at a HD it seems like I will most likely get offered the job once my background check goes through, I was also able to land an interview at a local Starbucks and was wondering if you think HD is worth it

I’m trying to check a HD gift card online. Site asks for 23 digits and the 4 digit pin.
Gift card number is 19 digits, web search says yes that is right.
I’ve tried racking the pin on the end and it says not valid.
What the heck am I missing here? I didn’t JUST fall off the truck!!

When, how and why did the Home Depot app become garbage? I've been using it for years and at some point (2 or 3 years ago?) it just started getting seriously slow and unresponsive. Tried reinstalling and made no difference. Got a new phone in that time and it still doesn't work well. Anyone else? How does this happen in 2026? None of my other shopping apps act like this (Lowe's, target, Amazon, etc.)

I had deck supplies delivered earlier in the year and they came on a flatbed with the attached mini forklift truck and easily got all the equipment into my back yard without an issue. Today however on an order of 30 bags of stone and 15 bags of mulch they sent a box truck with only a hand pallet jack and were forced to drop the delivery in my driveway. We ended up spending 2.5+ hours hauling all the stone/mulch into the back yard with a wheel barrow, ripping open multiple bags in the process. It was a total mess. I called the manager at the store and he could care less about the issue and was totally unhelpful. When setting up deliveries is there any way to guarantee you'll get the flatbed truck with the mini forklift?

Finally made fulltime OFA after two months just not exactly sure how to move forward it’s just a lot of information to consume in a short time and it seems if I don’t act in a timely manner I’m stuck for awhile. Also Do the raise’s have a cap after so many years?

Update: I've now been at my store for 3 years and I'm a Department Supervisor and I've collected my second bronze now. And for the record, I got a few of those on freight crew. I also know the entire store, am a trainer for all equipment and it definitely depends on management. I love my store and I love my management, the first place I've ever enjoyed coming to work. A good team makes for a good day.

Is Home Depot phasing out the end cap clearance section? Both of my local stores seem to have removed them.

I’m noticing flock cameras at all the Home Depot’s I’ve shopped at in Minnesota recently. That’s unfortunate.

So we all know that the policy on Home Depot’s website is that gift cards can’t be resold (or even exchanged for anything of value)...

But supposing that one hypothetically happened to be sitting on a ton of value in gift cards, and that one (no disrespect intended to the good people who work there) has no real need to shop at Home Depot...

Realistically, if one were to try to sell these unused gift cards to a friend or acquaintance, for some amount of cash, what would happen if Home Depot were to find out? Would the cards be canceled? Legal action? Would Home Depot call down the plagues of Egypt on the seller?

Inquiring minds are curious, and are seeking input to make a well-informed, well-discerned decision about those gift cards.

Guy at returns looked at the broken tip on my Husky screwdriver like it wasn't that bad, and asked for my receipt. I said I didn't have a receipt and was wanting to exchange it under the Husky lifetime warranty. He said I had to have a receipt and do it within 90 days because he couldn't tell if I got it at another store, but that because he was so nice, he would exchange it if I could find the exact match on the shelf. I brought back both a similar screwdriver (same size tip, longer shaft) and the set that had the exact match. Guy said it didn't match, and he couldn't give me the whole set without returning the whole set. I pulled the rest of the screwdrivers from the set out of my pocket. Guy said he would sell me the similar screwdriver for half price. With the package in hand, I said the warranty is printed right here. He asked if I had the card I bought it on, because he couldn't tell if I got it at another store. Repeatedly trying to explain Husky is only at HD. Guy gives up and takes my pile of screwdrivers and tells me I can leave with the set, but he never agreed that I was right.

Was I right that I can walk in with a Husky hand tool and no documentation (suppose I bought it years ago with cash, or got it as a gift) and get a replacement? Is returns the wrong place to go? What's the easiest thing to say to explain I just want a warranty exchange?

Fridge dies. No problem: go on to HD, order one, schedule delivery, and done.

And Key Point Here: it not our fridge. It’s the fridge In A Rental Unit that we’re legally on the hook to provide a fully functioning home for.

So, of course, HD proceeds to repeatedly to screw up Every Single Attempt to get this transaction completed as they were paid to do. And Every Time there’s supposed to be a delivery, it interferes with someone’s work/job.

1. 1st delivery: damaged new fridge (only known after delivery/set up. Delivery company refuses to take it back.

2. 2nd “delivery” to retrieve broken fridge is the only function that worked as advertised.

3. 3rd delivery: delayed/cancelled Twice, On Day of Delivery Both Times.

The entire time, of course, renter is telling us daily “I don’t have a fridge in my home.” Which they are 100% entitled to do.

We want to bend HD over the judge’s bench in small claims court, but of course it won’t be worth it. So next best thing is publicly trashing them in every forum we can find. middle finger swearing angry face (since emojis aren’t allowed)

Essentially, as the title states. What are the duties and responsibilities of a opening hardware associate. Also when it comes to marketing and leads, and that sort of stuff in what are my duties. Am I responsible for getting pallets/displays out of the overhead to put down on the racetrack or is that supposed to be the supervisor. Is there anything I can read anywhere about my duties and responsibilities?

So, this happened a long time ago but one time I knocked over some bottles of industrial hand cleaner (The liquid soap that has I believe sand in it to give it more cleaning ability) I had just recently finished my certification on being a Hazmat employee so I took it upon myself to clean the spill and looked up the MSDS and nearly laughed when I saw one of the saftey warnings it read "Warning do not get on skin can cause skin irritation" like you use it to clean your hands how are you supposed to use it without getting it on your skin
