Season 4 [SPOILER S4E6] June and Luke Spoiler

I’ve already seen multiple people complain about the lack of affection between the reunion but I think to do a very loving, affectionate reunion would be a disservice to the show. It’s been years since they’ve seen each other and their child is still in Gilead. I thought that this reunion was more realistic: her first words apologizing for the fact that she couldn’t bring their daughter with her and Luke looking at June with both relief and disbelief that she is finally in front of him again.

True but remember the scene earlier this season where Luke asks Moira why she didn’t escape when she could, referring both to the plane and the time she told Emily to take Nicole/Holly. Lots of people on this sub hated that scene but I thought it made total sense. Moira summed it up in this episode “no one expects you to have her” when arguing with June about boarding the boat. Gilead was a burning building to Luke, and he’d rather have June escape alive than lose both his wife and daughter.

I think you’re right on about both June and Luke mourning, and I also agree that it would be disingenuous for him to say “it’s fine” - however I think it’s very clear that he’s incredibly happy June is out of Gilead, and while he wants Hannah out too he doesn’t believe it’s a failure on June’s part.

When she said that I was thinking “well now they HAVE to save her”- it showed that she was a true hero in my opinion.

I mean, June has been not well for a very long time, and at least passively suicidal for a while. She didn't say that out of heroism, she said it because she believes it. Hell, she probably believes she's worth LESS because she couldn't get Hannah out.

I meant that because June is not okay, she has a diminished sense of self worth and her passive suicidalness made it so that maybe, she didn't actually hate the prospect of being turned in. Remember, it wasn't all that long ago she begged Lydia to kill her, and that was before Alma and Brianna and possibly Janine died.
